  • Computer simulation of sensing current effects on the magnetic and magnetoresistance properties of a crossed spin-valve head is carried out. The spin-valve head has the following layer structure: Ta (8.0 nm)/NiMn (25 nm)/NiFe (2.5 nm)/Cu (3.0 nm)/NiFe (5.5 nm)/Ta (3.0 nm), and it is 1500 nm long and 600 nm wide. Even with a high pinning field of 300 Oe and a high hard-biased field of 50 Oe, the ideal crossed spin-valve structure, which is essential to the symmetry of the output signal and hence high density recording, is not realized mainly due to large interlayer magnetostatic interactions. This problem is solved by applying a suitable magnitude of sensing currents along the length direction generating magnetic fields in the width direction. The ideal spin-valve head is expected to show good symmetry of the output signal. This has not been shown explicitly in the present simulation, however, The reason for this is possibly related to the simple assumption used in this calculation that each magnetic layer consists of a single domain.

  • We investigate the changes of galaxy spin orientation in dense environments using hydrodynamical cosmological zoom-in simulations for 17 galaxy clusters. This study reveals that the spin axes of satellite galaxies become more unstable when the satellites have lower initial $V/{\sigma}$, orbits with smaller pericenter distance, and higher merger rates after infall into the model clusters. The satellite galaxies involved in mergers after infall experience twice larger angular changes of spin axes than those without mergers. We also find that perturbation exerted by environments or neighboring galaxies strongly correlates with the stability of spin orientation and final $V/{\sigma}$. On the other hand, the size or stellar mass density of the satellites are not significantly affected by mergers or perturbation in cluster environments.

  • Peierls instability and spin ordering of zigzag graphene nanoribbons (GNR) created on a fully hydrogenated graphene (graphane) are investigated as a function of their width using first-principles density-functional calculations within the generalized-gradient approximation. For the width containing a single zigzag C chain (N=1), we find the presence of a Peierls instability with a bond alternated structure. However, for width greater than N=1, the Peierls distortion is weakened or disappears because of the incommensurate feature of Fermi surface nesting due to the interaction of C chains. Instead, there exists the antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin ordering in which the edge states are ferromagnetically ordered but the two ferromagnetic (FM) edges are antiferromagnetically coupled with each other, showing that electron-lattice coupling and spin ordering in GNR are delicately competing at an extremely thin width of N=2. It is found that, as the width of GNR increases, the energy gain arising from spin ordering is enhanced, but the energy difference between the AFM and FM (where two edge states are ferromagnetically coupled with each other) orderings decreases.

  • The surface structure of epitaxial $\alpha$-Fe2O3(0001) grown on $\alpha$-Al2O3(0001) has been investigated using intermediate-energy x-ray photoelectron diffraction. Comparison of experiment with quantum mechanical scattering theory reveals that the surface is Fe-terminated, and that the first four layer spacings are -41%, +18%, -8%, and +47% of the associated bulk values, respectively. these results agree reasonably well with the predictions of molecular mechanics and spin-density functional theory previously reported in the literature for the Fe-terminated surface. however, we find no evidence for and O-terminated surface predicted to be stable by spin-density functional theory.

  • The study of coupled relaxation for methyl spin system in 2,6-dichlorotoluene was performed on the basis of the magnetization mode formalism. Using five initial perturbing pulse sequences, eight experimntal data sets were obtained, which were fitted with theoretical expressions with nine spectral density parameters. The same experiment was carried out at both 50.3 MHz and 125.6 MHz in carbon frequency. The measured spectral densities at both fields are similar in the exception of that related with carbon random field term. Furthermore, from the dipolar spectral density, the physical values may be extracted depending on the model of molecular reorientation. For example, it was assumed that the molecular framework undergoes asymmetric diffusive rotational process and methyl group reorients by either diffusive rotation about its symmetry axis or jump among internal rotational potential minima.

  • We investigate the switching current for various cell diameters and DM interaction. We find that the current density for switching can depend strongly on the cell size when the switching is governed by the domain wall motion. Moreover the switching current density is also strongly influenced by DM interaction. In the presentation, we will discuss the effect of domain wall formation and more various DMI constant on the switching current desity in detail.
