This paper surveys a number of remotely operated recovery techniques and their recent applications in the removal of the toxic liquid from sunken ships, and suggests the appropriate recovery technique for our ocean environment, especially, in view of its cost and efficiency. Authors also give the technical requirements for the suggested remotely operated recovery system and the basic design result which is well-matched with such requirements.
The water pollution such as oil spill from stream and river because of car accidents have been frequent cases in the watershed of Dam. However we don't have any simulation methods about flow modeling on the watershed and stream tree. In this study aims to analyze water pollution accidents area on impact range for ANDONG-Dam. The focused watershed and the risk range of path analysis model was designed by GIS database. The frequency of transportation accidents which may occur from road accidents in the level of quantitative and qualitative analysis to map flow analysis using ArcHydro Model and Open Geospatial Consortium(OGC) API. and the path way from the accident point to the reservoir stayed on the path was simulated. The area of risk accessment index was displayed with cell and grid of dam area.

A ctenostomatous bryozoan, Bantariella bocki is reported from Jejudo Island of South Korea. This is the first report from Korean waters. Each zooid is produced from each kenozooid which arranged in two and originated opposite each other at intervals of about 0.64 mm along the stolon. B. bocki collected from black corals is considered to be a invasive species introduced from Bonin Islands located in the subtropical waters. The redescription, some distributional remarks and illustrations of B. bocki are provided.

This paper shows the numerical prediction of the change in oil outflow rate according to the orifice shape of a damaged ship by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis method. It also provides discharge coefficients for various orifice shapes to be used in theoretical prediction approaches. The oil outflow from the model ship was analyzed using a multiphase flow method under the condition that the Froude and Reynolds number similitudes were satisfied. The present numerical results were verified by comparing them with the available experimental data. Along with the aspect ratio of the orifice and the wall thickness of the cargo tank, the effects of the orifice shapes defined by mathematical figures on the oil outflow were investigated. To consider more realistic situations, the investigation of the ef ect of the crushed iron plate around the damaged part was also included. The numerical results confirmed the change in oil outflow time for various shapes of the damaged part of the oil tank, and discharge coefficients that quantify the viscous effects of those orifice shapes were extracted. To verify the predicted discharge coefficients, they were applied to an oil spill estimation equation. As a result, a good agreement between the CFD and theoretical results was obtained.
Oil spill was found in 1999 from a diesel storage facility located near the top of Baekun Mountain in Uiwang City. Application of bioremediation techniques was very relevant in removing oil spills in this site, because the geological condition was not amenable for other onsite remediation techniques. For efficient bioremediation, bacterial communities of the contaminated site and the uncontaminated control site were compared using both molecular and cultivation techniques. Soil bacterial populations were observed to be stimulated to grow in the soils contaminated with diesel hydrocarbon, whereas fungal and actinomycetes populations were decreased by diesel contamination. Most of the dieseldegrading bacteria isolated from contaminated forest soils were strains of Pseudomonas, Ralstonia, and Rhodococcus species. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis revealed that the profiles were different among the three contaminated sites, whereas those of the control sites were identical to each other. Analysis of 16S rDNA sequences of dominant isolates and clones showed that the bacterial community was less diverse in the oil-contaminated site than at the control site. Sequence analysis of the alkane hydroxylase genes cloned from soil microbial DNAs indicated that their diversity and distribution were different between the contaminated site and the control site. The results indicated that diesel contamination exerted a strong selection on the indigenous microbial community in the contaminated site, leading to predominance of well-adapted microorganisms in concurrence with decrease of microbial diversity.
The accident risks in the marine environment are increasing because of the tendency to build faster and larger ships. To secure ship safety, risk-based ship design (RBSD) was recently suggested based on a formal safety assessment (FSA). In the process of RBSD, a ship designer decides which risk reduction option is most cost-effective in the design stage using a cost-benefit analysis (CBA). There are three dimensions of risk in this CBA: fatality, environment, and asset. In this paper, we present an approach to estimate the environmental costs based on the size of an oil tanker involved in an accident using a neural network. An appropriate neural network model is suggested for the estimation, and the neural network is trained using IOPCF data. Finally, the learned neural network is compared with the cost regression equation by IMO MEPC 62/WP.13 (2011).

This paper describes a short-term prediction model for the movement of an oil slick in shallow waters. Under the assumption that the initial movement of the oil slick is governed by spreading and advection, the model has been developed and applied to Kyungki-Bay near Incheon Harbor. The initial spreading is estimated by using an empirical formula. The depth-averaged momentum equations are solved numerically for the volume transport velocities, in which the $M_2$ tide is the main driving source. A staggered grid system is adopted fur spatial discretization and the half-time method is implemented for time marching. The numerical result is visualized with the help of animation and thus the contaminated area is displayed on a monitor in time sequence. The input data are the time, the location and the volume of spill accident as well as environmental data such as md and $M_2$ tide.
