Cu nano-colloid was prepared by wire electric explosion process under de-mineralized water and anhydrous ethanol. To control the properties of Cu nano-colloid, experimental conditions such as diameter of Cu wire and applied voltage were changed. The optimal Cu nano-colloid was prepared when the 0.1mm diameter of Cu wire with the applied voltage of 2000 V was used. The shape of Cu particles in colloid was spherical and the XRD result revealed that the phase of Cu particles was cubic phase. About 20nm Cu nanoparticles with high crystallinity were successfully prepared using wire explosion process under anhydrous ethanol and they showed more than 100 hours dispersion stability.
To investigate the effect of H2 flow rate and TMS[Si(CH3)4] concentration on synthesizing ultrafine ${\beta}$-SiC powder by vapor phase reaction the experiment was performed at 1100$^{\circ}C$ of the reaction temperature under the condition of 200-2000 cc/min of H2 gas flow rate and 1-10% of TMS concentration respectively. The shape of ${\beta}$-SiC particles synthesized was spherical and the size of particles decreased and the distribution of particles was more uniform with increasing H2 gas flow rate. In this case Si powders were coexisted with ${\beta}$-SiC Pure and ultrafine ${\beta}$-SiC powders without Si were obtained under the condition of above 2% of TMS concentration and below 1500 cc/min of H2 gas flow rate.
YAG(Y3Al5O12) as host material of YAG:Tb3+ was studied via hydrothermal synthesis of metal hydroxides. We changed the kind of mineralizer, the concentrations and process conditions in hydrothermal synthesis. As a result, we found, acicular YAG powders were obtained by the use of KOH as a mineralizer, the concentration of KOH affected the shape and size of YAG powder. Fine grained YAG were perpared by the use of NH4OH as a mineralizer and the concentration of NH4OH affected crystal phases but did not affect particle size. We could finally get the spherical looking YAG powder at 8 M NH4OH and at 35$0^{\circ}C$ for 12h. The average particle size was about 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

Monodispersed and nano-sized Ni powders were synthesized from aqueous nickel sulfate hexahydrate $(NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O)$ inside nonionic polymer network by using wet chemical reduction process. The sucrose was used as a nonionic polymer network source. The effect of reaction conditions such as the amount of sucrose and a various reaction temperature, nickel sulfate hexahydrate molarity. The influence of a nonionic polymer network on the particle size of the prepared Ni powders was characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and particle size analysis (PSA). The results showed that the obtained Ni powders were strong by dependent of the reaction conditions. In particular, the Ni powders prepared inside a nonionic polymer network had smooth spherical shape and narrow particle size distribution.
In recent times the potential application of the high speed steel produced by HIP process for wear resistant and cutting materials are increasing. In this work the microstructure of Anval 30 produced by HIP process was investigated and the effect of WC, TiC addition on microstructure formation and wear properties were studied. After HIP process at 1150 $^{\circ}C$, the original feature of spherical raw powders was not removed and consequently, nonuniform microstructure was formed. However the WC added by simple powder mixture incereased the sinterbility of high speed steel and uniform microstructure formed. The wear characteristics of Anval 30 with carbide addition were tested at RT and $600^{\circ}C$. The uniform microstructure played an more important role in wear resistance as compared with the hardness.
The redox properties of a homogeneously-precipitated $TiO_2$ rutile powder with a BET surface area of ~$200 m^2$/g, consisting of an acicular primary particle, were characterized using photocatalytic reaction in aqueous 4-chlorophenol, Cu-EDTA and Pb-EDTA solutions under ultraviolet irradiation, compared to those of commercial P-25 X$200 m_2$ powder with a spherical primary particle as well as home-made anatase $TiO_2$ powder with ~$200 m^2$/g BET surface area. Here, the anatase powder also includes mainly the primary particles very similar to the acicular shapes of the rutile $TiO_2$ powder. The rutile powder showed the fastest decomposition rate and the largest amount in the photoredor, compared with the anatase or P-25 powder, while the anatase powder unexpectedly showed the slowest rate and the smallest amount in the same experiments regardless of almost the same surface area. From results, the excellent photoredox abilities of this rutile powder appears to be due to specific powder preparation method, like a homogeneous precipitation leading to direct crystallization from the solution, regardless of their crystalline structures even when having the similar particle shape and surface area.
In order to obtian TiO2 fine powder of high purity, the new method which is different from the sulfate process and the chloride one was employed. TiO2 was syntehsized by the reaction between elemental titanium particles and H2O2 solutiosn at 30~7$0^{\circ}C$, and then TiO2 powder was characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM, DTA and FT-IR. It was found that the initial reaction rate was fast at a high temperature due to the high generation of activated oxygen associated with thedecomposition of H2O2. However, the reaction was slowly proceeded at a low temperature due to slow decomposition of H2O2. In this experimental range, the optimum temeprature was ocnsidered to be about 5$0^{\circ}C$. The primary particles of the hydrous titanium dioxide (TiO2 gel) before aging were spherical, and their mean sizes were about 50nm. The similar shapes and sizes were observed with calcinatin at 40$0^{\circ}C$. The FT-IR spectrum of Ti-OH in the TiO2 gel powder appeared at around 3380cm-1, 1630cm-1 and 530cm-1. This gel powder was crystallized into the anatase type TiO2 at 300~40$0^{\circ}C$.
The microstructure of Al 6061 powder milled from rapidly solidified flake and it's extrudate were investigated. The grain size of flake was about $0.8-1.5{\mu}m$ and the powder shape was spherical due to the milling condition. In the microstructure of extrudate, the unbinded powder boundary was found the front part of extrudate and all the macroscopic defects such as boundary defect, holes or cracks was not observed except the front part. It was found that the extrudate except 60cm of front part was useful part.
Monodispersed $Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ Powder was prepared by metal-alkoxide hydrolsis. A homogeneous nucleation/growth occurred in the solutions containing ethanol, butanol and acetonitrile, and resulted in spherical, submicrometer-sized powder. The titania and the alumina crystals were formed at $800^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$, respectively. These crystala were subsequently reacted each other beyond $1320^{\circ}C$ and formed $Al_2TiO_5$. The relative densities of sintered bodies prepared with as-received powder were examined at the temperature range of 1300-$1500^{\circ}C$ and they were about 79% at $1300^{\circ}C$. The formation of aluminum titanata decreased the relative density at the temperature range of 1300-$1450^{\circ}C$, and at above $1450^{\circ}C$, the relative density started to increase again. It was observed that $\alpha-Al_2O_3$-doped aluminum titanate was more stable than pure aluminum titante at $1200^{\circ}C$.
From alumina powder and TEOS, $\alpha$-Al2O3/SiO2 composite powder for reaction-sintered mullite was synthesized by heterogeneous coagulation and surface coating, and investigated the mullitization reaction and sintering behavor of these powders. In $\alpha$-Al2O3/SiO2 composite powder prepared by heterogeneous coagulation, each alumina particles were surrounded by silica particles of 50~60 nm in size. And the alumina particles in composite powder prepared by surface coating were coated by uniform silica layer with thickness of 50 nm. In both methods, mullitization reaction was completed at 1$650^{\circ}C$ for 3h, and specimen sintered above 145$0^{\circ}C$ was about 95% fo the theoretical relative density. Mullite grains formed from the reaction with composite powders showed spherical shape with a size of 1~2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.
