  • This research investigates a Modeling Spell Checker that, similarly to Word Spell Checker for word processing software, would conform as-built 3D models to standard construction rules. The work is focused on the study of pipe-spools. Specifically pipe diameters and coplanarity are checked and corrected by the Modeling Spell Checker, and elbows are deduced and modeled to complete models. Experiments have been conducted by scanning scenes of increasing levels of complexity regarding the number of pipes, the types of elbows and the number of planes constituting pipe-spools. For building models of pipes from sensed data, a modeling method, developed at the University of Texas at Austin, that is based on the acquisition of sparse point clouds and the human ability to recognize geometric shapes has been used Results show that primitive-based models obtained after scanning construction sites can be corrected and even improved automatically, and, since such models are expected to be used as feedback control models for equipment operators, the higher modeling accuracy achieved with the Modeling Spell Checker could potentially increase the level of safety in construction. Result also show that some improvements are still needed especially regarding the co-planarity of pipes. In addition, results show that the modeling accuracy significantly depends on the primitive modeling method, and improvement of that method would positively impact the modeling spell checker.

  • The goal of this paper is the pedagogical application of a Korean Spell/Grammar Checker to the web-based language learning system for Korean writing. To maximize the efficient instruction of our learning system \\`Urimal Baeumteo\\` we have to improve our Korean Spell/Grammar Checker. Today the NLP system\\`s performance defends on its semantic processing capability. In our Korean Spell/Grammar Checker. the tasks accomplished in the semantic level are: the detection and correction of misused derived and compound nouns in a Korean spell-checking device and the detection and correction of syntactic and semantic errors in a Korean grammars-checking device. We describe a common approach to the partial parsing using collocation rules based on the dependency grammar. To provide more detailed semantic rules. we classified nouns according to their concepts. and subcategorized verbs referring to their syntactic and semantic features. Improving a Korean Spell/Gl-Grammar Checker makes our learning system active and intelligent in a web-based environment. We acknowledge the flaws in our system: the classification of nouns based on their meanings and concepts is a time consuming task. the analytic unit of this study is principally limited to the phrases in a sentence therefore the accurate parsing of embedded sentences remains a difficult problem to solve. Concerning the web-based language learning system. it is critically important to consider its interface design and structure of its contents.

  • This paper proposes an intelligent search modeling using avatar agent. This system consists of some modules such as agent interface, agent management, preprocessor, interface machine. Core-Symbol Database and Spell Checker are related to the preprocessor module and Interface Machine is connected with Best Aggregate Designer. Our avatar agent system does the indexing work that converts user's natural language type sentence to the proper words that is suitable for the specific branch information retrieval. Indexing is one of the preprocessing steps that make it possible to guarantee the specialty of user's input and increases the reliability of the result. It references a database that consists of synonym and specific branch dictionary. The resulting symbol after indexing is used for draft search by the internet search engine. The retrieval page position and link information are stored in the database. We experimented our system with the stock market keyword SAMSUNG_SDI, IBM, and SONY and compared the result with that of Altavista and Google search engine. It showed quite excellent results.

  • Determining the similarity between two strings can be applied various area such as information retrieval, spell checker and spam filtering. Similarity calculation between Korean strings based on dynamic programming methods firstly requires a definition of the similarity between phonemes. However, existing methods have a limitation that they use manually set similarity scores. In this paper, we propose a method to automatically calculate inter-phoneme similarity from a given set of variant words using a PAM-like probabilistic model. Our proposed method first finds the pairs of similar words from a given word set, and derives derivation rules from text alignment results among the similar word pairs. Then, similarity scores are calculated from the frequencies of variations between different phonemes. As an experimental result, we show an improvement of 10.1%~14.1% and 8.1%~11.8% in terms of sensitivity compared with the simple match-mismatch scoring scheme and the manually set inter-phoneme similarity scheme, respectively, with a specificity of 77.2%~80.4%.

  • There are various application areas of Language information processing such as information retrieval, morphological analysis, spell checker, voice recognition, character recognition, etc. In these language information processing areas, an electronic dictionary is essential. This thesis made researches on basic statistical information on the Korean dictionary and on the construction of electronic dictionary. The targets of analysis were the number of registered word in Korea dictionary, the entry number of registered word in electronic dictionary, the number of used syllables, the number of different syllables, the average length of entry, the distribution of part of speech and the number of used nodes to construct electronic dictionary using Trie, except for words including a archaic word or incomplete syllables. Total entry number of electronic dictionary is 361,980, the number of used syllables is 1,289,659, the average length of entries is 3.56 and the number of different syllables is 2,463. Theses informations would play a beneficial role in constructing an electronic dictionary and in processing Korean information.

  • Typographical errors by the author's mistyping occur frequently in a document being prepared with word processors contrary to usual publications. Preparing this online document, the most common orthographical errors are spelling errors resulting from incorrectly typing intent keys to near keys on keyboard. Typical spelling checkers detect and correct these errors by using morphological analyzer. In other words, the morphological analysis module of a speller tries to check well-formedness of input words, and then all words rejected by the analyzer are regarded as misspelled words. However, if morphological analyzer accepts even mistyped words, it treats them as correctly spelled words. In this paper, I propose a simple method capable of detecting and correcting errors that the previous methods can not detect. Proposed method is based on the characteristics that typographical errors are generally not repeated and so tend to have very low frequency. If words generated by operations of deletion, exchange, and transposition for each phoneme of a low frequency word are in the list of high frequency words, some of them are considered as correctly spelled words. Some heuristic rules are also presented to reduce the number of candidates. Proposed method is able to detect not syntactic errors but some semantic errors, and useful to scoring candidates.
