전방과 측면 방사 조절이 가능한 의료용 광섬유 팁 가공 기술 (Laser Microfabrication of Multidirectional Side-fire Optical Fiber Tip)

  • Currently, various optical fiber tips are used to deliver laser beam for endoscopic surgery. In this paper, we demonstrated multidirectional (forward and side) firing optical fiber tip using a femtosecond micromachining and $CO_2$ laser polishing technology. We controlled the edge width of optical fiber tip, by modulating the condition of $CO_2$ laser, to regulate the amount of side and forward emission. The distal end of the optical fiber with core/clad diameter of $400/440{\mu}m$ was microstructured with cone shape by using a femtosecond laser. And then the microstructured optical fiber tip was polished by $CO_2$ laser beam result in smoothing and specular reflection at the surface of the cone structure. Finally, we operated the LightTools simulation and good agreement was generally found between the proposed model and experimental simulation.

형태학적 특징을 이용한 향상된 치아 검출 방법 (Improved Tooth Detection Method for using Morphological Characteristic)

  • In this paper, we propose improved methods which are image conversion and extraction method of watershed seed using morphological characteristic of teeth on complement image. Conventional tooth segmentation methods are occurred low detection ratio at molar region and over, overlap segmentation owing to specular reflection and morphological feature of molars. Therefore, in order to solve the problems of the conventional methods, we propose the image conversion method and improved extraction method of watershed seed. First, the image conversion method is performed using RGB, HSI space of tooth image for to extract boundary and seed of watershed efficiently. Second, watershed seed is reconstructed using morphological characteristic of teeth. Last, individual tooth segmentation is performed using proposed seed of watershed by watershed algorithm. Therefore, as a result of comparison with marker controlled watershed algorithm and the proposed method, we confirmed higher detection ratio and accuracy than marker controlled watershed algorithm.

Unity3D기반 피부 투과광의 사실적 색표현을 위한 개선된 사전정의 BRDF (Advanced Pre-Integrated BRDF for Realistic Transmission Light Color in Skin Rendering based on Unity3D)

  • 사실적 피부 렌더링은 피부 표면에서 일어나는 확산반사(Diffusion) 및 경면반사(Specular) 뿐 만 아니라 피부층 내에서 산란되어 나오는 산란광과 얇은 피부층을 통과하는 투과광 등을 고려하여 렌더링 되어야 한다. 이를 물리적인 개념들을 사용하여 실시간으로 계산하여 표현하는 것은 많은 계산량과 시간을 필요로 하므로 확산 반사 및 경면 반사 등을 미리 계산하여 텍스쳐로 저장하고 재사용하는 사전정의 BRDF 방법으로 근사화하여 표현할 수 있다. 하지만 사전정의 BRDF를 통해 생성된 피부 투과광색상 텍스쳐 맵은 그 색상이 고정되어있어 조명의 색상이 바뀌어도 피부를 투과하는 빛의 색상이 변하지 않아 부자연스러움을 보인다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 물체와 조명간의 거리를 이용하여 빛의 감쇠비율을 구하고 조명의 색상 값과 감쇠비율을 이용하여 피부 투과광 색상 텍스쳐 맵의 RGB채널 수정을 통해 피부 렌더링에서의 자연스러운 투과광 표현이 가능함을 보였다.

파장변이섬유를 사용하는 반응 위치 측정 양전자방출 단층촬영기기 검출기 모듈의 연결물질과 반사체 물질의 최적화 (Optimization of the Coupling and the Reflector Material in the DOI PET Detector Module using the WLS Fiber)

  • 파장변이섬유를 사용한 새로운 반응 위치 측정 양전자방출 단층촬영기기 검출기를 개발하였으며, 이에 대한 최적화 작업을 수행하였다. 섬광체 2개와 파장변이섬유 3개를 사용하고, 파장변이섬유 끝에 센서를 부착하여 최적화 모듈을 설계하였다. 섬광체와 파장변이섬유 및 센서를 연결시키는 연결물질과 섬광체와 파장변이섬유의 반사체 물질에 따른 센서에서의 빛 수집율 및 센서별 빛 수집 비를 통해 최적의 조합을 도출하였다. 연결물질은 에폭시를 사용하고 반사체 물질은 섬광체와 파장변이섬유에서 각각 난반사체 및 거울반사체를 사용한 조합에서, 가장 높은 빛 수집율과 센서별 빛 수집 비를 보였다.

통계적 방법에 의한 마이크로솔더볼의 3차원형상검사 (Statistical Approach to 3-Dimensional Shape Inspection of Micro Solder Balls)

  • 본 논문은 경면반사특성을 갖는 솔더볼의 생산공정 관리와 품질확보를 목적으로 머신비전을 적용한 3차원형상을 결함검사방법으로서, 60미크론 이내의 마이크로 솔더볼을 대상으로 정밀한 위치제어장치가 필요없이 임의로 위치한 솔더볼의 반사영상을 취득 후 통계적으로 분석하여 3차원 형상의 결함유무를 검사하는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위해 복수개의 LED를 링형태로 배열한 광원을 사용하여 트레이에 위치한 많은 수의 마이크로솔더볼을 동시에 촬영한 영상을 취득하고, 영상처리를 통해 반사되는 LED의 상대적 위치를 구한 후, 통계적 분석을 통하여 결함의 유무를 판단하는 방법을 제안하고 실험을 통해 그 효용성을 보인다.

  • An integrated grader which measures soluble solid content, color and weight of fresh apples was developed by NAMRI. The prototype grader consists of the near infrared spectroscopy and machine vision system. Image processing system and an algorithm to evaluate color were developed to speed up the color evaluation of apples. To avoid the light glare and specular reflection, an half-spherical illumination chamber was designed and fabricated to detect the color images of spherical-shaped apples more precisely. A color revision model based on neural network was developed. Near-infrared(NIR) spectroscopy system using NIR reflectance method developed by Lee et al(1998) of NAMRI was used to evaluate soluble solid content. In order to observe the performance of the grader, tests were conducted on conditions that there are 3 classes in weight sorting, 4 classes in combination of color and soluble solid content, and thus 12 classes in combined sorting. The average accuracy in weight, color and soluble solid content is more than about 90 % with the capacity of 3 fruits per second.

Effects of reflector, surface treatment, and length of scintillation crystal on the performance of TOF-DOI PET detector with dual-ended readout

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the reflector, surface treatment, and length of scintillation crystals on the performance of a time-of-flight and depth-of-interaction (TOF-DOI) PET detector with a dual-ended readout and to determine the best reflector and surface treatment. Various types of crystal arrays with three different reflectors (ESR, BaSO4, and Toray), three different lateral surface treatments (all-polished (AP), all-roughened (AR), and partially roughened (PR, three sides polished, and one side roughened)), and two different lengths (20 and 15 mm) were fabricated. The highest light collection efficiency and best energy resolution were achieved using a crystal with a diffuse reflector (BaSO4 for AP and Toray for AR). In contrast, the best coincidence timing resolution (CTR) was achieved using an AR crystal with a specular reflector (ESR). The best DOI resolution was achieved using an AR crystal with BaSO4. Moreover, the results measured with the 20 mm long crystals were similar to those measured with the 15 mm long crystals. Therefore, we concluded that the dual-ended readout PET detector employing the crystal with AR lateral surface treatment and ESR was a good candidate for TOF-DOI PET because it provided excellent CTR and adequate DOI resolution.

쓰레기도 예술이 되나요?: 데이비드 해몬즈의 '홈리스' 아트 (Can Rubbish Become Art?: David Hammons's 'Homeless' Art)

  • This paper delves into the recent 'paintings' of African-American artist David Hammons, which combine rubbish-like plastic wraps with the abstract-expressionist style paintings. In straddling between rubbish and art object, his works tend to blur the boundary drawn between two opposite categories in value, art and garbage, provoking the sophisticated taste of Upper-East-side white community in Manhattan, New York. Choosing the venue of his exhibition at a commercial gallery, Hammons's creative efforts is also a critique of what can be seen as the dominance of abstract expressionism and white elitism in American art history. The artist is known for his use of unconventional materials in art making such as black hair, barbecue bones, and elephant droppings, ones that are often associated with African-American experiences in all different levels. Since his debut in the art scene in the 1970s, Hammons has pursued the view of art-making as a medium for provoking contentious issues of racial relations in the States. On the other hand, the reception of Hammons's work as African-American art can be potentially quite limiting, overlooking as it does multi-faceted meanings of his art practice. His unconventional approach to art often took him outside art galleries and museums, where he was seen using a variety of common materials for site-specific installations and performances. Staged in different parts of Manhattan, these acts of art making traverse seemingly opposite communities and cultures, often blurring their boundaries. Hammons's artistic practice can label him what Abdul Jan Mohamed calls "specular border intellectual", revealing as it does the symbiosis of binary oppositions that is basic to the experience of communnal living.

BRDF를 고려한 적외선 신호의 반사 성분 고속 연산기법에 관한 연구 (A Study on a High Speed Computational Scheme for the Reflected IR Signal Component by Considering the BRDF)

  • This paper is a part of developing a computer code that can be used to generate synthetic IR images by calculating the outgoing infrared signal from objects. To predict the reflected component that is a part of the outgoing IR signal, such as those components reflected from the target surface by the solar and sky irradiations, it is necessary to calculate the complicated BRDF values for considering the directional surface reflection characteristics. Since the calculation of reflectance using the BRDF requires a large amount of computation time due to the hemispherical integral term, it is frequently restricted in applying for a real-time prediction of IR signal. In this research, the simplified method for calculating IR reflected component has been proposed by replacing the integral terms into two parts, a directionally uniform component and a step function representing the specular component, to reduce computation time. The proposed method is proved to result in very fast calculation of the BRDF (up to 600 times faster calculations) for most of the surfaces with minimal loss of the accuracy.

음영처리기법의 비교를 통한 실내공간 조명효과의 예측 (The Prediction of Interior Luminous Effect Through a Comparison of Shading Algorithms)

  • In Interior design, light is the most important factor in deciding color, texture and illumination level which are the basic factors of spatial design. To apply rendering technologies on prediction of illuminating effect, it is important to understand and analyse the basic properties of the illumination models that are local illumination model and global illumination model. The illumination models in computer graphics express the factors which determine the surface color, texture and light distribution through the reflection. The purpose of this study is to propose the best way of shading algorithm in interior space provided by the computer, based on the experimental analysis that 5 shading methods are applied to the interior space. The results of this study were as followed. 1) Local illumination models that are Lambert shading, Ground shading and Phong shading are not suitable to the prediction of interior illumination effect. 2) Ray tracing that is global illumination model could be adopted to interior illumination effects. Ray tracing is a very versatile algorithm because of the large range of lighting effects it can model. 3) Neither radiality nor ray tracing offers a complete solution for simulating all interior illumination effects. 4) Radiosity excels at rendering diffuse-to-diffuse inter-reflections and ray tracing excels at rendering specular reflections. By merging both shading techniques, that offers the best of both. Using computer technologies to simulate lighting in preliminary design stage which will provide information for designers and occupants to determine the effect of using artificial light sources at each stage of their design process. Further study in illumination analysis, prediction of illumination effect, and lighting calculation is required as computer media expands.
