  • As wireless communication continues to develop in limited frequency resource environments, it is becoming important to identify the state of spectrum utilization and predict the amount needed in future. It is essential to collect reliable information for data analysis. This paper introduces a platform that enables the gathering of the scheduling information of a long-term evolution (LTE) cellular system without connecting to the network. A typical LTE terminal can confirm its assigned resource information using the configuration parameters delivered from a network. However, our platform receives and captures only the LTE signal over the air and then enables the estimation of the data relevant to scheduling for all terminals within an LTE cell. After extracting the control channel signal without loss from all LTE subframes, it detects valid downlink control information using the proposed algorithm, which is based on the error vector magnitude of depatterned symbols. We verify the reliability of the developed platform by comparing it with real data from mobile phones and service operators. The average difference in resource block utilization is only 0.28%.

  • In the case of high-speed data transmission on high multilayer boards, signal coherence is a problem, especially due to the via hole, and a solution to improve return loss or insertion loss by applying a back drill to the via hole is being proposed. In this paper, Near-Field Electromagnetic measurements were made on a high multilayer board to determine how the presence or absence of back drill affects signal consistency. For this purpose, we used a signal generator, spectrum analyzer, and EMC scanner on a test board to determine if it is possible to distinguish between areas with and without back drill in the via holes of the stubs on the board. Also, we analyzed the measured value of S11, S21 and EMC etc. for how much it improves the signal attenuation of the stub with back drill. Through this, we knew that less electromagnetic waves are generated the stub via with back drill. At future research, we will analyze how much it improves the signal loss and electromagnetic waves due to the depth of back drill.

  • We investigate the characteristics of RJ (random jitter) in an analog fiber-optic link employing a MZM (Mach-Zehnder modulator) and an EDFA (Erbium-doped fiber amplifier). RJ has been measured using two methods, one of which derived from the noise spectrum of a RF spectrum analyzer and the other from the histogram data of a sampling oscilloscope. If the optical power and/or the RF power input to the MZM increase, RJ decreases due to the output signal power increase. For the optical link without EDFA, the minimum RJ is about 1 ps at an RF power of 10 dBm and an optical power of 8 dBm measured using the noise spectrum method. For the optical link with an EDFA, RJ decreases toward a jitter floor as the EDFA gain increases. If the gain increases further, it has been observed that RJ increases from the minimum. If the EDFA gain is fixed, RJ is smaller for the case of larger optical input power. As the EDFA gain increases, RJ reduction rate becomes greater for the case of lower optical input power.

  • Objectives : Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterized by abnormalities of social functioning, communication and behavior. The association of the 7q21-34 region with ASD has been reported. The DLX6 gene, which is located at the 7q22 region, is one of the positional and functional candidate genes for ASD. We found that there is no association between DLX6 polymorphisms and ASD in the Korean male population. Methods : We selected three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that might be implicated in the change of the DLX6 gene expression. The genomic DNA was collected from the venous blood of 147 male controls and 179 male patients with ASD. The genotypes of the selected SNPs were determined using the Illumina GoldenGate assay, and the statistical analyses were performed using HapAnalyzer software and SAS Enterprise. Results : We found no association of the three SNPs in the DLX6 gene with ASD in the Korean male population. Conclusion : Our study suggests that the three SNPs in the DLX6 gene are not associated with ASD, and we need to analyze the previously reported regions for their associations with ASD.

  • In this study, the spectrum due to radioactivity contained sand samples from famous beaches in the Yeongnam region was measured. The sand samples were from eight famous beaches in Yeongnam region and were placed into a high-purity germanium detector (HPGe) using with an electric field, which is a semiconductor detector and subjected to a precision analysis of the gamma-rays emitted from the radionuclides in the sand by using a multichannel analyzer (MCA). To measure the concentration of the radionuclides, we obtained a spectrum by analyzing the gamma-rays emitted from the radionuclides for a measurement time of 8,000 seconds. As a result of analyzing the spectrum table, Tl-208 had the highest radioactivity at all eight beaches: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. In conclusion, radionuclides detected in sand samples from beaches in the Yeongnam region are natural radionuclides, but they can affect the inside of the human body. Therefore, there is a need for continuous investigation.

  • Using solid inorganic peroxides (including Li2O2, Na2O2, SrO2 and BaO2) as starting materials, three reaction paths for singlet oxygen (1O2) production were developed and studied. Their 1O2 emission spectra in the near- IR region and visible region from these reaction paths were simultaneously recorded by a near-IR sensitive Optical Multichannel Analyzer and a visible sensitive Optical Spectrum Analyzer, respectively. The comparison of their 1O2 emission spectra indicated that: (1) in term of the efficiency for 1O2 production, the gasliquid- solid reaction path (in which Cl2 or HCl and H2O reacted with the solid inorganic peroxides suspension in CCl4) was prior to the gas-solid reaction path (in which Cl2 or HCl reacted with the solid inorganic peroxides suspension in CCl4), but was inferior to the gas-liquid reaction path (in which Cl2 or HCl reacted with the solid inorganic peroxides solution in H2O or D2O); (2) the alkali metal peroxides (such as Li2O2 and Na2O2) was prior to the alkaline earth metal peroxides (such as SrO2 and BaO2) as the solid reactants, and Cl2 was favorable than HCl as the gas reactant in efficiency for 1O2 production in these reaction paths.

  • The physico-chemical and texture characteristics of meat determine the nutritional, technological and sensory quality. However, the analysis of meat quality requires expensive, laborious and time consuming analytical methods. The objective of this study was to evaluate NIR spectroscopy using transmittance for determining the moisture, fat, protein and total pigment content, the water holding capacity (WHC) and the toughness of beef meat. A total of 318 spectra were recorded from ground beef samples by a Feed Analyzer 1265 of Infratec. The samples were obtained from the Longissimus muscle of the 10$^{th}$ rib of yearling bulls, ground with an electrical chopper, vacuum packaged, aged during 7 days and frozen at -24$^{\circ}C$ until the analyses were done. Moisture content was measured by oven drying at 10$0^{\circ}C$, fat content was determined by Soxhlet extraction and protein content was estimated from nitrogen content using the Kjeldahl analysis. The total pigment content was determined by the method of Hornsey and the WHC using the method of filter paper press. The instrumental evaluation of texture (maximum load WB, maximum stress MS and toughness) was conducted in an Instron equipment with a Warner-Bratzler shearing device. This analysis was performed on a chop of 3.5 cm obtained from the longissimus of the 8$^{th}$ rib, aged during 7 days, kept frozen at -24$^{\circ}C$ and cooked before the analysis. Near infrared spectra were recorded as log 1/T (T=transmittance) at 2 nm intervals from 850 to 1050 nm using a Feed Analyzer 1265 of Infratec. Calibrations were performed with the WinISI software (vs. 1.02) using the MPLS method. To examine the effect of scatter correction o. derivation of spectra on the calibration performance, calibrations were calculated with the crude spectra or pretreated with different mathematical treatments (inverse MSC, SNVD) and/or second derivative operation. For chemical composition, the use of the scatter corrections improved the calibration statistics, in terms of lower SECV and higher $r^2$. In most of the variables, the use of the 2$^{nd}$ derivative improved the predictions, mainly when combined with the SNVD treatment. However, for predicting the texture traits, the best estimation was obtained from the crude spectrum. These results showed that the equations obtained for predicting moisture, fat and total pigments were very accurate, with $r^2$ being higher that 0.9. However, the prediction of the texture traits (WB, MS, toughness) from ground meat was poor.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the physicochemical, structural, and rheological properties of new domestic potato cultivars ('Goun', 'Sebong', and 'Jinsun') against the foreign potato cultivar 'Atlantic'. Based on the results obtained from scanning electron micrograph, X-ray, and Fourier transform infrared spectrum analyses, the structural properties of all potato flours were not considerably different. Rapid visco analyzer analyses showed that the setback viscosities of 'Goun', 'Sebong', and 'Jinsun' were significantly lower than that of 'Atlantic'. For steady shear rheological properties, potato flour dispersions showed shear-thinning behaviors (n=0.45~0.49) at $25^{\circ}C$. Apparent viscosity and consistency index of 'Atlantic' were similar to those of 'Sebong' and 'Jinsun'. For dynamic shear rheological properties, storage modulus (G′) and loss modulus increased, whereas complex viscosity (${\eta}^*$) was reduced with increasing frequency from 0.63 to 62.8 rad/s. G′ and ${\eta}^*$ values of 'Jinsun' were significantly higher than those of the other potato cultivars.

  • Thermal oxidation and plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition of tantalum oxide thin films on p-type (100) Si substrates were studied to examine the dielectric nature of T$a_2O_5$ as a Al/T$a_2O_5$/p-Si capacitor. Microstructure and dielectric properties of the capacitors were investigated by XRD, AES, high frequency C-V analyzer, I-V meter and TEM. XRD analysis showed that the structure of T$a_2O_5$ films were amorphous, but the films were crystallized to hexagonal $\delta$-T$a_2O_5$ by 65$0^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation treatment. It was found that the stoichiometry of the films was more or less close to 2 : 5. Leakage current density and relative dielectric constant of thermal oxidation T$a_2O_5$ film at 60$0^{\circ}C$ was 5.0${ imes}10^{-6}$/A/c$m^2 and 31.5, respectively. In the case of PECVD T$a_2O_5$film deposited at 0.47W/c$m^2 they were 2.5${ imes}10^{-5}$/A/$ extrm{cm}^2$ and 24.0, respectively. The morphology of the films and interfaces were investigated by TEM.

  • We optimally designed the VCO(voltage-controlled oscillator) with spiral inductor using the MOSIS HP 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process. With the developed SPICE model of spiral inductor, the quality factor of spiral inductor was maximized at the operating frequency by varying the layout parameters, e.g., metal width, number of turns, radius, space of the metal lines. For the operation frequency of 2㎓, the inductance of about 3nH, and the MOSIS HP 0.5 CMOS process with the metal thickness of 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, oxide thickness of 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, the optimal width of metal lines is about 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for the maximum Quality factor. With the optimized spiral inductor, the VCO with LC tuning tank was designed, fabricated and measured. The measurements were peformed on-wafer using the HP8593E spectrum analyzer. The oscillation frequency was about 1.610Hz, the frequency variation of 250MHz(15%) with control voltage of 0V - 2V, and the phase noise of -108.4㏈c(@600KHz) from output spectrum.
