A theoretical study is conducted for the design of solar air heaters using porous material. Radiative characteristics of glazing and porous absorbing media are found through spectral transmittances measured by the Visible spectrometer and the FT-IR. Using those characteristics the efficiencies of collectors are calculated one-dimensionally with the use of the Two-Flux radiation model. The efficiencies increase, as the air flow rates or albedos in the visible range increase, and as albedos in the IR range decrease. The optimum thickness of the porous medium of 15-mesh stainless steel wire screens is 0.001m, which represents the opacity of one.
At the most recent years, laser medical instruments, laser applications and laser nuclear fusion need strong visible light and ultraviolet rays. Nonlinear optical devices, such as harmonic generators and parametric oscillators, provide a means of extending the frequency range of available laser sources. Frequency conversion is a useful technique for extending the utility of high-power lasers. It utilizes the nonlinear optical response of an optical medium in intense radiation fields to generate new frequencies. These progresses have been used to generate high-power radiation in all spectral regions, from the ultraviolet to the far infrared. Optical parametric oscillators and amplifiers generate two waves of lower frequency They are capable of generating a range of wavelengths from a single frequency source, in some cases spanning the entire visible and near infrared regions. Consequently, in order to obtain the green light, the pulsed Nd:YAG laser using multiple-mesh PFN(Pulsed Forming Network) method with Nonlinear optical device was adopted. We compared the current pulseshapes with the laser output energy, and conversion efficiency.

This study is aimed to perform more reliable unsupervised change detection through the re-extraction of the changed pixels which were extracted with global thresholding by applying buffer zone concept. First, three buffer zone was divided on the basis of the thresholding value which was determined using range average and the maximum distance point from a straight line. We re-extracted the changed pixels by performing unsupervised classification for buffer zone II which consists of changed pixels and unchanged pixels. The proposed method was implemented in Hyperion hyperspectral images and evaluated comparing to the existing global thresholding method. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method performed more accuracy change detection for vegetation area even if extracted slightly more changed pixels.

Eddy covariance method is widely used in measuring vertical fluxes of mass and energy between the atmosphere and the biosphere. In this method, scalar concentration is measured with either open-path or closed-path sensors. For the latter, fluctuations of scalar concentration are attenuated as the sample travels through a long tube, resulting in flux loss. To quantify this tube attenuation, water vapor concentrations measured with both closed-path and open-path sensors were analyzed. Our statistical analysis showed that the power spectral density obtained from the closed-path sensor was different from that from the open-path sensor in the frequency range of > 0.5 Hz. The loss of water vapor flux due to tube attenuation was < 5% during midday. At nighttime, however, the flux loss increased significantly because of the low wind speeds and the weak turbulence sources. Theoretical calculation for the tube attenuation showed a small bias in high frequency range probably because of the interaction of sticky water vapor with a tube wall.
Design and syntheses of four red phosphorescent heteroleptic cationic iridium(III) complexes containing two substituted phenylquinoxaline (pqx) or benzo[b]thiophen-2-yl-pyridin (btp) main ligands and one 2,2'-biimidazole (H2biim) ancillary ligand are reported: [$(pqx)_2$Ir(biim)]Cl (1), [$(dmpqx)_2$Ir(biim)]Cl (2), [$(dfpqx)_2$Ir(biim)]Cl (3), [$(btp)_2$Ir(biim)]Cl (4). Complex 1 showed a distorted octahedral geometry around the iridium(III) metal ion with cis metallated carbons and trans nitrogen atoms. The absorption, emission and electrochemical properties were systematically evaluated. The complexes exhibited red phosphorescence in the spectral range of 580 to 620 nm with high quantum efficiencies of 0.58 - 0.78 in both solution and solid-state at room temperature depending on the cyclometalated main ligands. The cyclic voltammetry of the complexes (1-3) showed a metal-centered irreversible oxidation in the range of 1.40 to 1.90 V as well as two quasi reversible reduction waves from -1.15 to -1.45 V attributed to the sequential addition of two electrons to the more electron accepting heterocyclic portion of two distinctive cyclometalated main ligands, whereas complex 4 showed a reversible oxidation potential at 1.24 V and irreversible reduction waves at -1.80 V.
Using the spectral data in the 3700 to $10050{\AA}$ wavelength range secured with the Hamilton Echelle Spectrograph (HES) at the Lick observatory, we have investigated the expansion velocities and the physical conditions of the elliptical planetary nebula NGC 6803. Various forbidden and permitted lines, e.g. HI, HeI, HeII, [OIII], [NII], [ArIII], and [SII], indicate complicated but systematic physical conditions variation: electron temperatures $T_{\varepsilon}\;{\sim}\;9000$ - 11000 K and electron number densities $N_{\varepsilon}\;{\sim}\;2000$ - $9000\;cm^{-3}$. The line profile analysis of these ions also indicates the systematic change or the acceleration of the expansion velocities in the range of 10 - $22\;km\;s^{-1}$. We show that the velocity gradient and physical condition found in various ions are closely related to the prolate ellipsoidal structure of NGC 6803. The expansion velocity and the ionic abundance of $O^{2+}$ were derived based on the OII and [OIII] lines. In spite of the discrepancy of ionic abundances derived by the two cases and their line profiles, the expansion velocities of them agree well. We find that the ratios of the red to blue line component of the HeII & OII lines are different from those of the [OIII] or other forbidden lines that indicates a possible involvement of emission of HeII & OII lines. This subtle difference and the different physical condition of the lines are likely to be caused by the elongated geometry and the latitude dependence of the emission zone.

In this paper, a highly efficient GMR(guided-mode resonant) color filter is proposed and implemented. The GMR color filter consists of $Si_3N_4/air$ layers containing complementary fixed and mobile gratings. The device is designed using RETT(rigorous equivalent transmission-line theory) and a grating structure operating in subwavelength. The numerical result reveals that the color filter has a tuning capability of about 35 nm over the $0.45{\mu}m{\sim}0.55{\mu}m$ range for blue-green color and across $0.6{\mu}m{\sim}0.7{\mu}m$ range for red color. Furthermore, The color filters have a spectral bandwidth of about 8 nm with efficiencies of 99%, 98%, and 99% at the center wavelength of blue, green, and red color, respectively, and these are higher efficiencies than reported in the literature previously.
We investigated the spectral characteristics for temperature and driving current change in visible laser diode. As a result of spectrum analysis, the ratio of frequency change for temperature and driving current change were about $33 GHz/^{\circ}C$, 6.6 GHz/mA in the region which was not mode hopping range. Compared to the sharp mode hopping in the near IR single mode AlGaAs lasers, the visible laser diode showed relatively broad multimode operation in the mode hopping region. We performed the experiment of injection-locking characteristics analysis for visible laser diode. Locking half bandwidth(LHBW) was measured 0~5.0 GHz for $0~25\muW$ input power and it was dependent on the input power. Also, LHBW for polarization angle was dependent on the difference of polarization angle between master laser and slave laser. The phase change of injection-locked output beam of the slave laser diode as a function of the drive current was measured in the interferometer which was composed of master laser and slave laser. The ratio of phase change with the slope of 5.0~1.3 rad/mA was obtained within injection-locking range for the change of $2~25\muW$ input power. power.

Semi-active devices use the building's own motion to produce resistive forces and are thus strictly dissipative and require little power. Devices that independently control the binary open/closed valve state can enable novel device hysteresis loops that were not previously possible. However, some device hysteresis loops cannot be obtained without active analog valve control allowing slower, controlled release of stored energy, and is presents an ongoing limitation in obtaining the full range of possibilities offered by these devices. This in silico study develops a proportional-derivative feedback control law using a validated nonlinear device model to track an ideal diamond-shaped force-displacement response profile using active analog valve control. It is validated by comparison to the ideal shape for both sinusoidal and random seismic input motions. Structural application specific spectral analysis compares the performance for the non-linear, actively controlled case to those obtained with an ideal, linear model to validate that the potential performance will be retained when considering realistic nonlinear behaviour and the designed valve control approach. Results show tracking of the device force-displacement loop to within 3-5% of the desired ideal curve. Valve delay, rather than control law design, is the primary limiting factor, and analysis indicates a ratio of valve delay to structural period must be 1/10 or smaller to ensure adequate tracking, relating valve performance to structural period and overall device performance under control. Overall, the results show that active analog feedback control of energy release in these devices can significantly increase the range of resetable, valve-controlled semi-active device performance and hysteresis loops, in turn increasing their performance envelop and application space.
The present paper describes the design of a Solid State Telescope (SST) on board the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute satellite-1 (KASISat-1) consisting of four [TBD] nanosatellites. The SST will measure these radiation belt electrons from a low-Earth polar orbit satellite to study mechanisms related to the spatial resolution of electron precipitation, such as electron microbursts, and those related to the measurement of energy dispersion with a high temporal resolution in the sub-auroral regions. We performed a simulation to determine the sensor design of the SST using GEometry ANd Tracking 4 (GEANT4) simulations and the Bethe formula. The simulation was performed in the range of 100 ~ 400 keV considering that the electron, which is to be detected in the space environment. The SST is based on a silicon barrier detector and consists of two telescopes mounted on a satellite to observe the electrons moving along the geomagnetic field (pitch angle $0^{\circ}$) and the quasi-trapped electrons (pitch angle $90^{\circ}$) during observations. We determined the telescope design of the SST in view of previous measurements and the geometrical factor in the cylindrical geometry of Sullivan (1971). With a high spectral resolution of 16 channels over the 100 keV ~ 400 keV energy range, together with the pitch angle information, the designed SST will answer questions regarding the occurrence of microbursts and the interaction with energetic particles. The KASISat-1 is expected to be launched in the latter half of 2020.
