Simultaneous analysis of concentration and flow fields in a stirred tank using large eddy simulation (대형 와 모사를 사용한 혼합 탱크 내의 농도장과 유동장의 동시 해석)

  • Transport of a scalar quantity, such as chemical concentration or temperature, is important in many engineering applications and environmental flows. Here we report on results obtained from the large eddy simulations of flow and concentration fields inside the tank performed using a spectral multi-domain technique. The computations were driven by specifying the impeller-induced flow at the blade tip radius (Yoon et al. $^{(1)}$). This study focused on the concentration development at different molecular diffusivities in a stirred tank operated under turbulent conditions. The main objective of the work presented here is to study the large-scale mixing structure at different molecular diffusivities in a stirred tank by using the large eddy simulation. The time sequence of concentration and flow fields shows the flow dependency of the concentration development. The presence of spatial inhomogenieties is detailed by observing the time variation of local concentration at different positions.

  • In this note, the asymptotic stability of interval time-delay systems with multiple delays is investigated. Sufficient conditions for the stability independent of delay and decaying rate for the system are derived in terms of the spectral radius. Numerical computations are performed to illustrate the result.

  • In this paper, we propose and evaluate a new interference cancellation method using low pass filtered data estimation method of the instantaneous decision sawnle obtained from each decision stage. With respect to the convergence to the optimal solution the superiority of the proposed method to parallel interference cancellation (PIC) referred as prevailing techniques is proved by its (asymptotic) spectral radius. Through the simulation under the various environment, we show the performance superiority of the IC scheme using proposed method to the PIC scheme. Furthermore, we show transcendence of the proposed method on the possibility of multirate transmission or multiple power scheduling and of performance in the various traffic environments.

GENERAL PROPERTIES OF NEAR-CONTACT BINARIES (근접촉쌍성(NCBs)의 일반적 특성)

  • The general properties of the NCBs, divided into A and F types according to their spectral types, have been presented. The evolutionary status of the F type near-contact binaries are closer to that of the contact systems, i.e., W UMa type binaries, if it is assumed that the evolution of the NCBs is governed by the thermal relaxation oscillation theory. The mass-radius relation, mass-luminosity relation and H-R diagram of the NCBs provide that the A type NCBs suffer from more active mass transfer than F types. The components of the NCBs ar still in main-sequence like W UMa type stars and their two components lines parallel to the ZAMS.

  • In this paper we show that the following results remain valid for arbitrary Jordan derivations as well: Let d be a derivation of a complex Banach algebra A.   • A massive envelope and a strong bipolar outflow are the two most distinct structures of youngest protostellar systems. We present observational results from the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA) toward the youngest (Class 0) protostellar system L1157. At an angular resolution of 5 arcseconds, we mapped its well-developed outflow in CO 2-1 over a span of approximately 5 arcminutes. Additionally, we imaged the central envelope with CO isotopes, CS, CN, and N2H+ with an angular resolution of about 2 arcseconds. We show that the bipolar outflow may be represented with a two jet model and constrain its physical properties such as precession/rotation directions, velocities, inclinations, and position angles via cube data fitting. In addition, we discuss the kinematic features of the envelope detected in CO isotopes and N2H+ and present the radius-dependent dust opacity spectral index.

  • In this article we want to formulate a disease transmission model, MSEIR model, for a population with individuals travelling between patches i and i + 1 and we derive an explicit formula for the basic reproductive number, $R_0$, employing the spectral radius of the next generation operator. Also, in this article we show that a system of ordinary differential equations for this model has a unique disease-free equilibrium and it is locally asymptotically stable if $R_0$ < 1 and unstable if $R_0$ > 1.

Onset of Buoyancy-Driven Convection in a Fluid-Saturated Porous Layer Bounded by Semi-infinite Coaxial Cylinders

  • A theoretical analysis was conducted of convective instability driven by buoyancy forces under transient temperature fields in an annular porous medium bounded by coaxial vertical cylinders. Darcy's law and Boussinesq approximation are used to explain the characteristics of fluid motion and linear stability theory is employed to predict the onset of buoyancy-driven motion. The linear stability equations are derived in a global domain, and then cast into in a self-similar domain. Using a spectral expansion method, the stability equations are reformed as a system of ordinary differential equations and solved analytically and numerically. The critical Darcy-Rayleigh number is founded as a function of the radius ratio. Also, the onset time and corresponding wavelength are obtained for the various cases. The critical time becomes smaller with increasing the Darcy-Rayleigh number and follows the asymptotic relation derived in the infinite horizontal porous layer.

MODIS-estimated Microphysical Properties of Clouds Developed in the Presence of Biomass Burning Aerosols (MODIS 관측자료를 이용한 러시아 산불 영향 하에 발달한 구름의 미세 물리적 특성 연구)

  • An algorithm was developed to retrieve both cloud optical thickness and effective particle radius considered the aerosol effect on clouds. This study apply the algorithm of Nakajima and Nakajima (1995) that is used to retrieve cloud optical thickness and effective particle radius from visible, near infrared satellite spectral measurements. To retrieve cloud properties, Look-up table (LUT) was made under different atmospheric conditions by using a radiative transfer model. Especially the vertical distribution of aerosol is based on a tropospheric aerosol profile in radiative transfer model. In the case study, we selected the extensive forest fire occurred in Russia in May 2003. The aerosol released from this fire may be transported to Korea. Cloud properties obtained from these distinct atmospheric situations are analysed in terms of their possible changes due to the interactions of the clouds with the aerosol particle plumes. Cloud properties over the East sea at this time was retrieved using new algorithm. The algorithm is applied to measurements from the MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) onboard the Terra spacecrafts. As a result, cloud effective particle radius was decreased and cloud optical thickness was increased during aerosol event. Specially, cloud effective particle radius is hardly greater than $20{\mu}m$ when aerosol particles were present over the East Sea. Clouds developing in the aerosol event tend to have more numerous but smaller droplets.

PROPERTIES OF THE SCUBA-2 850㎛ SOURCES IN THE XMM-LSS FIELD

  • We carry out the study of $850{\mu}m$ sources in a part of the XMM-LSS field. The $850{\mu}m$ imaging data were obtained by the SCUBA-2 on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) for three days in July 2015 with an integration time of 6.1 hours, covering a circular area with a radius of 15'. We choose the central area up to a radius of 9'.15 for the study, where the noise distribution is relatively uniform. The root mean square (rms) noise at the center is 2.7 mJy. We identify 17 sources with S/N > 3.5. Differential number count is estimated in flux range between 3.5 and 9.0 mJy after applying various corrections derived by imaging simulations, which is consistent with previous studies. For detailed study on the individual sources, we select three sources with more reliable measurements (S/N > 4.5), and construct their spectral energy distributions (SEDs) from optical to far-infrared band. Redshift distribution of the sources ranges from 0.36 to 3.28, and their physical parameters are extracted using MAGPHYS model, which yield infrared luminosity $L_{IR}=10^{11.3}-10^{13.4}L_{\odot}$, star formation rate $SFR=10^{1.3}-10^{3.2}M_{\odot}yr^{-1}$ and dust temperature $T_D=30-53K$. We investigate the correlation between $L_{IR}$ and $T_D$, which appears to be consistent with previous studies.
