Timing recovery for recently proposed nonlinear minimum-bandwidth systems is of concern since most conventional methods fail for these systems. As a method to surmount this retiming difficulty, this paper proposes the fourth-power-law method. The feasibility of the proposed method for minimum-bandwidth systems is shown through a rigorous analysis. Furthermore, extensive computer simulations are used to determine the best configurational strategy for various filters around the fourth-power nonlinear process. It is found that no intermediate filtering is necessary in general and even the pre-filtering can be omitted for systems having symmetric power spectral densities.
We explore the shock acceleration model for giant radio relics, in which relativistic electrons are accelerated via diffusive shock acceleration (DSA) by merger-driven shocks in the outskirts of galaxy clusters. In addition to DSA, turbulent acceleration by compressive MHD modes downstream of the shock are included as well as energy losses of postshock electrons due to Coulomb scattering, synchrotron emission, and inverse Compton scattering off the cosmic background radiation. Considering that only a small fraction of merging clusters host radio relics, we favor a reacceleration scenario in which radio relics are generated preferentially by shocks encountering the regions containing low-energy (${\gamma}_e{\leq}300$) cosmic ray electrons (CRe). We perform time-dependent DSA simulations of spherically expanding shocks with physical parameters relevant for the Sausage radio relic, and calculate the radio synchrotron emission from the accelerated CRe. We find that significant level of postshock turbulent acceleration is required in order to reproduce broad profiles of the observed radio flux densities of the Sausage relic. Moreover, the spectral curvature in the observed integrated radio spectrum can be explained, if the putative shock should have swept up and exited out of the preshock region of fossil CRe about 10 Myr ago.

Chemical evolution of galaxies can be understood by studying the spatial distribution of heavy elements. We selected two nearby galaxies, M31 and M33 and investigated spectrum of their HII regions: a) the elec-tron densities have been derived from the [S II] 6717/6731 ratio along with the most recent atomic constants (Hyung & Aller 1996); b) the electron temperatures were determinated from the Pagel's empirical method. Nebula Model (Hyung 1994) has been employed to predict the spectral line intensities which gives the proper chemical abundances. The model would predict the line intensities correctly only when various input parameters such as the effective central star temperatures, gravity log g, model atmosphere as well as the geometry and the nebula physical condition are appropriate. Thus, the determination of chemical abundances of O, S, N of the two nearby galaxies M31 and M33 has been done, which shows a radial dependance of O/H and N/H: decrease with the distance, or increasing electron temperature due to the elemental deficiency. Abundances of M31 appear to be enhanced than those of M33.
We attempt to investigate the main reason of the asymmetrical light curves of contact and near-contact eclipsing binary base on the hypothesis that cool spot was produced on late type star while hot spot was produced from transferred material from their companion star hitting surface. We select 7 eclipsing binary systems which showed asymmetric light curves and mass transfer. Period variation and mass transfer rate were obtained from O-C diagram. Radial velocity curves and light curves of those 7 eclipsing binary system were adopted from available literature in order to obtain the absolute dimension. For four contact eclipsing binary system (AD Phe, EZ Hya, AG Vir and VW Boo), their component stars belonged to spectral type G to K was fitted by cool spot model. While the other two near-contact systems (RT Scl and V1010 Oph) and one contact system (SV Cen) was fitted by cool spot model. The densities of the materials are adopted from stellar model which calculate by stellar structure code. The calculated spot temperature turns out to agree with the photometric solution but there are no correlate between period variation rate and type of spot.
Infra-Red Dark Clouds (IRDCs) seen silhouette against the bright Galactic background in mid-IR are a class of interstellar clouds that are dense and cold with very high column densities. While IRDCs are believed to be the precursors to massive stars and star clusters, individual IRDCs show diverse star forming activities within them. We report a remarkable example of such cloud, the IRDC at ${\Gamma}53.2^{\circ}$, and star formation activity in this cloud. The IRDC was previously identified in part as three separate, arcmin-size clouds in the catalogue of MSX IRDC candidates, but we found that the IRDC is associated with a long, filamentary CO cloud at 2 kpc from the Galactic Ring Survey data of $^{13}CO$ J = 1-0 emission, and that its total extent reaches ~ 30pc. The Spitzer MIPSGAL 24mm data show a number of reddened mid-IR sources distributed along the IRDC which are probably young stellar objects (YSOs), and the UWISH2 $H_2$ data (2.122mm) reveal ubiquitous out flows around them. These observations indicate that the IRDC is a site of active star formation with YSOs in various evolutionary stages. In order to investigate the nature of mid-IR sources, we have performed photometry of MIPSGAL data, and we present a catalogue of YSOs combining other available point source catalogues from optical to IR. We discuss the evolutionary stages and characteristics of YSOs from their IR colors and spectral energy distributions.

The turbulent mixing of a kerosene/liquid oxygen coaxial swirl injector under supercritical pressures have been numerically investigated. Kerosene surrogate models are proposed for the kerosene thermodynamic properties. Turbulent numerical model is based on LES(Large Eddy Simulation) with real-fluid transport and thermodynamics over the entire pressure range; Soave modification of Redlich-Kwong equation of state, Chung's model for viscosity/conductivity, and Fuller's theorem for diffusivity to take account Takahashi's compressible effect. The effect of operating pressure on thermodynamic properties and mixing dynamics inside an injector and a combustion chamber are investigated. Power spectral densities of pressure fluctuations in the injector under various chamber pressure are analyzed.
The goal of this study is to investigate the effect of non-synchronous sensing when using wireless sensors on structural identification and to attempt correcting such errors in order to obtain a better identification result. The sources causing non-synchronous sensing are discussed first and the magnitudes of such synchronization errors are estimated based on time stamps of data samples collected from Imote2 sensors; next the impact of synchronization errors on power spectral densities (PSDs) and correlation functions of output responses are derived analytically; finally a new method is proposed to correct such errors. In this correction method, the corrected PSDs of output responses are estimated using non-synchronous samples based on a modified FFT. The effect of synchronization errors in the measured output responses on structural identification and the application of this correction method are demonstrated using simulation examples. The simulation results show that even small synchronization errors in the output responses can distort the identified modal and stiffness parameters remarkably while the parameters identified using the proposed correction method can achieve high accuracy.

This paper presents the comparison between SFT response with linear and nonlinear cables. The dynamic response analysis of submerged floating tunnel (SFT) is presented computationally with linear and nonlinear tension legs cables. The analysis is performed computationally for two wave directions one at 90 degrees (perpendicular) to tunnel and other at 45 degrees to the tunnel. The tension legs or cables are assumed as linear and non- linear and the analysis is also performed by assuming one tension leg or cable is failed. The Response Amplitude Operators (RAO's) are computed for first order waves, second order waves for both failure and non-failure case of cables. For first order waves- the SFT response is higher for sway and heave degree of freedom with nonlinear cables as compared with linear cables. For second order waves the SFT response in sway degree of freedom is bit higher response with linear cables as compared with nonlinear cables and the SFT in heave degree of freedom has higher response at low time periods with nonlinear cables as compared with linear cables. For irregular waves the power spectral densities (PSD's) has been computed for sway and heave degrees of freedom, at $45^0$ wave direction PSD's are higher with linear cables as compared with nonlinear cables and at $90^0$ wave direction the PSD's are higher with non-linear cables. The mooring force responses are also computed in y and z directions for linear and nonlinear cables.
In this study, road transportation tests were conducted with surrogate fuel assemblies under normal conditions of transport to evaluate the vibration and shock load characteristics of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). The overall test data analysis was conducted based on the measured acceleration and strain data obtained from the speed bump, lane-change, deceleration, obstacle avoidance, and circular tests. Furthermore, representative shock response spectrums and power spectral densities of each test mode were acquired. Amplification or attenuation characteristics were investigated according to the load transfer path. The load attenuated significantly as it transferred from the trailer to the cask. By contrast, the load amplified as it transferred from the cask to the surrogate SNF assembly. The fuel loading location on the cask disk assembly did not exhibit a significant influence on the strain measured from the fuel rods. The principal strain was in the vertical direction, and relatively large strain values were obtained in spans with large spacing between spacer grids. The influence of the lateral location of fuel rods was also investigated. The fuel rods located at the side exhibited relatively large strain values than those located at the center. Based on the strain data obtained from the test results, a hypothetical road transportation scenario was established. A fatigue evaluation of the SNF rod was performed based on this scenario. The evaluation results indicate that no fatigue damage occurred on the fuel rods.

We present H I gas kinematics and star formation activities of NGC 6822, a dwarf galaxy located in the Local Volume at a distance of ~ 490 kpc. We perform profile decomposition of the line-of-sight velocity profiles of the high-resolution (42.4" × 12" spatial; 1.6 km/s spectral) H I data cube taken with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). For this, we use a new tool, the so-called BAYGAUD (BAYesian GAUssian Decompositor) which is based on Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques, allowing us to decompose a line-of-sight velocity profile into an optimal number of Gaussian components in a quantitative manner. We classify the decomposed H I gas components of NGC 6822 into bulk-narrow, bulk-broad, and non_bulk with respect to their velocity and velocity dispersion. We correlate their gas surface densities with the surface star formation rates derived using both GALEX far-ultraviolet and WISE 22 micron data to examine the impact of gas turbulence caused by stellar feedback on the Kennicutt-Schmidt (K-S) law. The bulk-narrow component that resides within r25 is likely to follow the linear extension of the Kennicutt-Schmidt (K-S) law for molecular hydrogen (H2) at the low gas surface density regime where H I is not saturated.
