Analysis on the Effect of Spectral Index Images on Improvement of Classification Accuracy of Landsat-8 OLI Image

  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of the representative spectral indices, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference water index (NDWI) and normalized difference built-up index (NDBI) on classification accuracies of Landsat-8 OLI image.After creating these spectral index images, we propose five methods to select the spectral index images as classification features together with Landsat-8 OLI bands from 1 to 7. From the experiments we observed that when the spectral index image of NDVI or NDWI is used as one of the classification features together with the Landsat-8 OLI bands from 1 to 7, we can obtain higher overall accuracy and kappa coefficient than the method using only Landsat-8 OLI 7 bands. In contrast, the classification method, which selected only NDBI as classification feature together with Landsat-8 OLI 7 bands did not show the improvement in classification accuracies.

  • In this study, a novel group-indexed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing index modulation (OFDM-IM) scheme is proposed to achieve a tradeoff between spectral efficiency (SE) and bit-error-rate (BER) performance. In the proposed scheme, the total subcarriers in a group are divided into subgroups, and additional bits are transmitted by subgroup indexing, unlike the conventional OFDM-IM scheme, which uses index bits to select active subcarriers. With the proposed scheme, the additional degree of freedom provided by the number of active subgroups selected provides a tradeoff between spectral efficiency and BER performance. Decoding is performed in steps to reduce computional complexity in the decoder design. Simulaton results show that the number of active subgroups selected influences the proposed scheme's performance in terms of energy efficiency, spectral efficiency, and BER performance.

발성유형지수 k (Phonation Type Index k)

  • This study proposes phonation type index k as a descriptor of the overall spectral tilt, which is free from the effects of fundamental frequency and vowel quality. The newly proposed phonation type index k presents a simple and single measure of the overall spectral tilt. Phonation type index k can be applied to speech technology. It can also be used in diagnosing patients voice qualities in speech pathology. The distribution of phonation type index k, which is speaker-dependent, may be useful in forensic phonetics and voice recognition as an indicator of speaker identity.

  • 주파수 영역에서 시계열 자료를 분석함에 있어 스펙트럴 추정량은 매우 유용한 도구이다. 기존의 스펙트럴 추정량은 이상치에 영향을 받을 수밖에 없는 구조로 되어있어서 M-추정법을 활용하여 로버스트 스펙트럴 추정량이 제안되었다. M-추정을 위해서는 조율모수를 적절하게 선택해 주어야 하는데 Pak (2001)이 제안한 방법을 사용할 때의 효과를 연구하였다. 모의실험과 주택가격지수에의 적용을 통하여 효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Several arguments have been presented in the literature to support the connection between radio halos and cluster mergers. The spectral index distributions of the halos in A665 and A2163 provide a new strong confirmation of this connection, i.e. of the fact that the cluster merger plays an important role in the energy supply to the radio halos. Features of the spectral index (flattening and patches) are indication of a complex shape of the radiating electron spectrum, and are therefore in support of electron reacceleration models. Regions of flatter spectrum are found to be related to the recent merger. In the undisturbed cluster regions, instead, the spectrum steepens with the distance from the cluster center. The plot of the integrated spectral index of a sample of halos versus the cluster temperature indicates that clusters at higher temperature tend to host halos with flatter spectra. This correlation provides further evidence of the connection between radio emission and cluster mergers.

VIMAP: AN INTERACTIVE PROGRAM PROVIDING RADIO SPECTRAL INDEX MAPS OF ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI

  • We present a GUI-based interactive Python program, VIMAP, which generates radio spectral index maps of active galactic nuclei (AGN) from Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) maps obtained at different frequencies. VIMAP is a handy tool for the spectral analysis of synchrotron emission from AGN jets, specifically of spectral index distributions, turn-over frequencies, and core-shifts. In general, the required accurate image alignment is difficult to achieve because of a loss of absolute spatial coordinate information during VLBI data reduction (self-calibration) and/or intrinsic variations of source structure as function of frequency. These issues are overcome by VIMAP which in turn is based on the two-dimensional cross-correlation algorithm of Croke & Gabuzda (2008). In this paper, we briefly review the problem of aligning VLBI AGN maps, describe the workflow of VIMAP, and present an analysis of archival VLBI maps of the active nucleus 3C 120.

METALLICITY DETERMINATION FOR A GLOBULAR CLUSTER BY SPECTRAL INDICES

  • In order to determine the metallicity of a globuar cluster, M3,by using the spectral indices, a kind of index grid has been establshed by stars in globular clusters, M3, M15, M71 and old open cluster, NGC 188. The indices were measured from the medium resolution spectra of about $2{\AA}$. The summed indices were used to determine metallicity in order to increase signals. It is found that the core depth index is measured more accurately and leads result more accurate than the pseudo-equivalent width index. This method can be further improved by including many more calibration globular clusters of various metallicity to make finer grids. By this method, the metallicity of M3 is determined as $[Fe/H] = -1.46\pm0.15$.

차연산과 분광미분을 이용한 항공 초분광영상의 식생지수 산출 적절밴드 선택 (An Adequate Band Selection for Vegetation Index of CASI-1500 Airborne Hyperspectral Imagery Using Image Differencing and Spectral Derivative)

  • 최근 초분광영상의 활용 연구사례와 다양한 분광지수들의 개발과 평가가 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 특히 식생원격탐사 분야에서는 식생의 스트레스와 활력에 대한 지표로 식생지수가 사용되며 일반적으로 NIR과 red 파장대의 두 개 혹은 이상의 분광밴드를 선택적으로 사용하고 있다. 항공 초분광영상은 좁고 연속적인 수많은 밴드를 가지기 때문에 식생지수를 위한 밴드선택에 혼돈을 야기할 수 있다. 만약 식생지수를 개발하는 과정에서 사용된 밴드와 항공기를 이용해 취득한 센서의 밴드정보와 동일하지 않다면, 탐지 대상의 광학특성에 대한 설명력이 높은 적절한 밴드를 선택하는 것이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 NIR과 red 파장영역에 속하는 4개의 후보밴드를 선택하고 이들의 조합으로 계산된 NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index)와 MSRI(modified simple ratio index)를 산출하였다. 산출된 식생지수들에 대해서 각 지수들의 변이를 살펴보기 위해 변화탐지 기법의 차연산(image differencing)을 이용하였다. 또한 보다 직접적인 분석을 위해서 분광미분(spectral derivative)을 통하여 임상도로 구분되는 식생의 종류별 분광특성을 가장 잘 설명할 수 있는 밴드를 확인하였다. 연구 결과로 후보밴드들 중에서 red #3(680.2nm)와 NIR #2(801.7nm)가 수림에 영향을 적게 받고 밴드의 변동이 적은 적절한 밴드로 선택할 수 있었다.

사출성형 조건 변화에 따른 도광판의 황화현산에 관한 연구 (A study on yellowing property of LGP under various injection molding conditions)

  • Recently, the light guide plate (LGP), a component of the BLU, becomes thinner and larger than ever. In industrial field, specialized injection molding technique is applied to mold the ultra-thin LGP such as a ultra-high speed injection molding. Usually very high melt temperature is used for low viscosity. High injection speed and melt temperature lead to yellowing of LGP. In the present paper a series of injection molding experiment was performed under various injection molding conditions. Yellow index, CIE xy, spectral transmittance of sample were measured using the UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Systematic decrease of spectral transmittance in UV-B range was found as the melt temperature was higher. Yellow index and CIE xy were became higher near the gate location in LGP. From the result of analysis of variance, the main factor to affect for yellow index was mold temperature and that for spectral transmittance(at 315 nm) was melt temperature.
