A Natural cavities were found at shallow depth during construction of a huge bridge in Moon-Kyung, Korea. The distribution patterns of cavities in the Moon-Kyung limestone were investigated carefully with a supplementary field job such as a structural geological survey, a geophysical survey, and a rock mechanical test in laboratory or field. A structural geological mapping produced a detail geological map on this area. It suggested that there were three faults in this area, and these faults had an influence on the mechanism of natural cavities. Among many kinds of geophysical surveys, an electrical resistivity prospecting was applied firstly on the specific area that was selected by results from the geological survey. Many evidences for cavities were disclosed from this geophysical data. Therefore, a seismic tomography was tested on the target area, which was focused by results from the electrical resistivity prospecting and was believed to have several large cavities. A distinct element numerical simulation using the UDEC was followed on the target area after completing all of field surveys. Data from field tests were directly dumped or extrapolated to numerical simulations as input data. It was verified from numerical analysis that several natural cavities underneath the foundation of the bridge should be reinforced. Based on the project result, finally, most of foundations for the bridge were re-examined and the cement grouting reinforcement was constructed on several foundations among them.
The characteristics of wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of tungsten carbide in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension, the gap of deflection was decreased after thickness 60mm and discharge time of 6$\mu\textrm{s}$ due to the changing from fundamental mode to vibration mode. The deflection is the smallest at the water specific resistivity of 7.5 kΩ ㆍcm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time, and the result is due to the vibration of the pressure and the amount of the dielectric. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, was observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be decreased as the number of EDM is increased. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire. The roundness of middle is found to be worse than that of upper and it is increased as the thickness of material is increased.
Bismuth-telluride based $(Bi_{0.2}Sb_{0.8})_2Te_3$ thermoelectric powders were fabricated by two-step planetary milling process which produces bimodal size distribution ranging $400\;nm\;{\sim}\;2\;{\mu}m$. The powders were reduced in hydrogen atmosphere to minimize oxygen contents which cause degradation of thermoelectric performance by decreasing electrical conductivity. Oxygen contents were decreased from 0.48% to 0.25% by the reduction process. In this study, both the as-synthesized and the reduced powders were consolidated by the spark plasma sintering process at $350^{\circ}C$ for 10 min at the heating rate of $100^{\circ}C/min$ and then their thermoelectric properties were investigated. The sintered samples using the reduced p-type thermoelectric powders show 15% lower specific electrical resistivity ($0.8\;m{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$) than those of the as-synthesized powders while Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity do not change a lot. The results confirmed that ZT value of thermoelectric performance at room temperature was improved by 15% due to high electric conductivity caused by the controlled oxygen contents present at bismuth telluride materials.
This paper describes the ohmic contact formation of polycrystalline 3C-SiC films deposited on thermally grown Si wafers. In this work, a TiW (titanium tungsten) film as a contact material was deposited by RF magnetron sputter and annealed with the vacuum process. The specific contact resistance (${\rho}_{c}$) of the TiW contact was measured by using the C-TLM (circular transmission line method). The contact phase and interfacial reaction between TiW and 3C-SiC at high-temperature as also analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscope). All of the samples didn't show cracks of the TiW film and any interfacial reaction after annealing. Especially, when the sample was annealed at $800^{\circ}$ for 30 min., the lowest contact resistivity of $2.90{\times}10{\Omega}cm^{2}$ was obtained due to the improved interfacial adhesion. Therefore, the good ohmic contact of polycrystalline 3C-SiC films using the TiW film is very suitable for high-temperature MEMS applications.
The new amorphous intermetallic compounds, M3(AsTe3)2: M=Cr, Co, Fe, were synthesized by the precipitation reaction of the Zintl anion AsTe33- with the divalent transition metal halides in aqueous solution and analyzed by EDS equipped with SEM and PIXE. The empirical formula of the specimens was found to be Fe3.0As1.8Te5.9, Co3.0As2.1Te6.5, and Cr3.0As2.0Te6.9 by the quantitative elemental analysis. The dc specific resistivity of the materials was measured as a function of temperature in the range from 20 to 300 K, in which their resistivity of Cr3(AsTe3)2 was largely dependent on temperature, while those of Co3(AsTe3)2 and Fe3(AsTe3)2 were only slightly dependent on temperature. To characterize the spin glass state of the specimens, the ac and dc magnetic susceptibility were measured and it was found that Co3(AsTe3)2 and Fe3(AsTe3)2 undergo a transition to a spin glass state at 6 K and 38 K, respectively. Magnetization data are reported as both thermal remanent magnetization (TRM) and isothermal remanent magnetization (IRM) as a function of magnetizing field and temperature.

Applications of REBa2Cu3O7-δ tapes require joints with a simple manufacturing process, low resistance and good mechanical properties. In the present study, we successfully developed a copper diffusion joint between Cu-stabilized REBa2Cu3O7-δ tapes that meets the above requirements without solder simply by applying flux, heat and pressurization. After a 3 min thermocompression process at approximately 150 δ and 336 MPa in air, two tapes were directly connected between Cu stabilizers by copper diffusion, which was proven by microstructure analysis. The specific resistivity of the copper diffusion joint reached 5.8 nΩ·cm2 (resistance of 0.4 nΩ for a 306 mm splicing length) at 77 K in the self-field. The axial tensile stress reached 200 N without critical current degradation. The results show promise for the preparation of copper diffusion joints to be used in coils, attached tapes, and wire/cable terminals.
The characteristics of corrosion resistance for the surface of ductile cast iron(GCD40) by plasma nitriding process have been studied in terms of electrochemical polarization behaviors including corrosion potential($E_{corr}$), anodic polarization trends, polarization resistance($R_p$), and also have been studied microstructures, hardness and specific wear of nitrided layer Nitrided layer showed an enhanced hardness values in all the plasma nitriding condition investigated. In the result of wear test, specific wear of nitrided specimens were much decreased than that of non-treated specimens. In the results of XRD, ${\gamma}'phase\;and\;{\varepsilon}$ phase were detected in nitrided surface. And it was found that ${\varepsilon}$ phase was decreased and ${\gamma}'phase$ was increased respectively, as the nitriding time became longer. In the test of corrosion resistance, natural potentials in all the nitrided specimens were towards noble directions than in the case of non-treated specimens. The measurement of electrode potentials revealed that corrosion resistivity of plasma nitrided specimens were higher than in the case of the non-treated specimens.
In this study, Ohmic contacts make on 3C-SiC using TiN. Ohmic contact resistivity of TiN/3C-SiC was evaluated. Specific contact resistance was calculated by Circular-TLM(transmission line model) method and physics properties were measured using XRD, SEM, respectively. TiN contact is stable at high temperatures and a good diffusion barrier material. The TiN/3C-SiC contacts are thermally stable to annealing temperatures up to $1000^{\circ}C$. The TiN thin-film depostied on 3C-SiC substraes have good electrical properties. Therefore, the TiN/3C-SiC contact can be usefully applied for high-temperature MEMS applications over $500^{\circ}C$.
Effects of carbon black species and concentration on the mechanical and electrical properties of alumina trihydrate filled EPDM compounds were investigated. Mechanical properties improved with increasing carbon black concentration, and these effects were prominent in carbon blacks haying large specific area. In the case of non-conductive carbon black. tracking resistance improved when a small amount of carbon black was added to EPDM. Conductive carbon black showed detrimental effect to dielectric losses, volume resistivity and tracking resistance of EPDM compound.
In order to develope domestic carburizers, the experiment was carried out by applying crystallization heat treatment to domestic anthracites and also to foreign products to compare with domestic anthracites. The present work was mainly concerned with the effect of their degree of crystallization of carbon-bearing materials on carbon pick-up in molten iron. Those effects were evaluated by the measurement of density, chemical composition, specific electric resistivity, and X-ray intensity of carbon-bearing materials. Experimental results thus obtained were summurized as follows. 1. The degree of crystallization of domestic anthracites and foreign products was increased with increasing heat treatment temperature. 2. The more degree of crystallization, the shorter the dissolving time of domestic anthracites in molten iron was obtained, while that of foreign products was remained constant. 3. As the degree of crystallization of domestic anthracites and foreign products was increased, the carbon content as well as carbon recovery in molten iron was increased.
