The first record of Korean cyproideid amphipod, Cyproidea liodactyla Hirayama, 1978 is reported here with description and illustrations. This species has the following characteristics: the presence of dorsal keel of peduncle 2 on antenna 1, posterodistal process of ischium on gnathopod 1 and carpal process on gnathopod 2. In this study, the minor differences between the original description and our Korean specimens of Cyproidea liodactyla are discussed and a brief comparison to other related species such as C. serratipalma Schellenbeg, 1938 and C. robusta Ren, 2006 are suggested. In addition, a key to Korean species belonging to the family Cyproideidae is provided.
Twelve Far Eastern species of the genus Ancistrocerus Wesmael are taxonomically reviewed. Among them, Ancistrocerus coreanus Kim and Yamane is new to science. A. japonicus, A. parietum and A. scoticus are newly recorded from Korea. In comparison to A. melanocerus, our opinion on the identity of A. densepilosellus is presented: it is more supportive that the Far Eastern population is the latter. Revised key, description, recognition characteristics and digital images for all the treated species are provided.

Seeding treatment was used for 2 years at an artificial bare ground for selecting tree species suitable for forest-floor revegetation. 2 ${\times}$2${\times}$2 factorial experiment was used with a randomized complete block design for 19 native tree species and results were summarized as follows; 1. Native species suitable for restoration of bareland under 75% shading in central part of Korea were Styrax japonica, Styrax obassia, Smilax china, Callicarpa japonica, Stephanandra incisa, Viburnum dilatatum for. pilosulm, Magnolia sieboldii, Cornus kousa, Celastrus orbiculata, etc.. Especially, Magnolia sieboldii, Stephanandra incisa and Stryrax obassia were tolerant for forest-floor with hardened woil surface and Callicarpa japonica, Viburnum dilatatum for. pilosulum, Euonymus sieboldianus and Philadelphus schrenkii were suitable for softened soil surface with straw-mat mulching. 2. It is necessary to break seed dormancy to accelerate germination in case of Styrax obassia, Styrax japonica, Viburnum dilatatum for. pilosulum, Smilax china and Stephanandra incisa.
The content of chiisanoside in the Acanthopanax Species was determined by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method. Chiisanoside was separated from the other components in the plant extracts using Zorbax 300 SB $C_{18}$ column with gradient elution of acetonitrile. Identification of chiisanoside was carried out by comparison in the LC/MS spectrum of separated peak from extract with that of standard. By HPLC analysis in this experiment, Acanthopanax species could be classified into two groups based upon the content of chiisanoside-one with low concentration of chiisanoside, such as A. senticosus and A. koreanum, and another with high concentration of chiisanoside, such as A. senticosus f. inermis, A. Divaricatus var. albeofructus, and A. chiisanensis.
A two-year survey on the insect fauna of Dokdo located at the eastern end of Korean territory, was carried out from 2009 to 2010. A total of 11 Orders 65 Families 131 Genera 133 Species of insects was reported to exist in Dokdo by Park et al. (2012). This study was focused on the collection of small insects (under 1 mm in body length) in Dokdo. Form the collection, the comparison of the species composition to past records in Dokdo was carried out.
In order to find out nutritional effects of Korean edible mushrooms on the multiplication of tissue cells, the alcohol extracts and acid bydrolysates of eleven species of mushrooms were added to Earle's ESS. A comparison of the respective multiplications of HeLa cells in this solution and in control solution of TC=199. Yielded the following result: The alcohol extracts and acid hydrolysates of a Coprinus comatur, Agaricus campestris, Agaricus bisporus, Lentinus edodes, Tricholoma matsutake, Pleurotus ostretus, Ramaria botrytis and Pholiota nameko influenced favorably the maintenance of the normal form and monolayer of HeLa cells. The growth curves of HeLa cells in the cultures containing, respectively, the alcohol extracts and acid hydrolysates of these eight mushrooms showed that five species, i.e., Coprinus comatus, Agaricus compestris, Agaricus bisporus, Lentinus edodes and Tricholoma matsutake effected an excellent multiplication and that the other three species were less effective than those five species. As to the effects on the cell multiplication, no marked difference was observed between the alcohol extracts and the acid hydrolysates of the mushrooms tested.
The vegetative and male reproductive anatomy of a marine alga, Laurencia intercalaris sp. nov. (Rhodomelaceae, Rhodophyta), is described from subtidal habitats of eastern and southern Korea. This species has terete thalli with entangled fibrous holdfasts and regularly alternate branching of ultimate branchlets, and is inseparable from L. okamurae Yamada on the basis of habit. Vegetative axial cells produce a trichoblast and four pericentral cells in an alternating sequence. Spermatangia are produced intercalary or subterminally from one of two laterals on suprabasal cells of trichoblasts arising from axial cells in apical pits of branchlets. The other lateral remains sterile. In this sterile lateral, budding-like regeneration occurs on older segments that are oabscised. Comparison is made with other related Laurencia species, particularly those with terete thalli. The vegetative anatomy and the regeneration in sterile laterals of male trichoblasts, with the mode of spermatangial formation, distinguish the new species from previously described species of Laurencia including L. okamurae.
F. napiforme, F. beomiforme and F. nygamai could not be classified in any of the existing sections of the genus Fusarium. To discuss of the exact taxonomic relationships among these species, the cellular polypeptide patterns were compared by using 2-D PAGE. Polypeptide pattern of F. beomiforme was different from those of other two species and was more similar to F. oxysporum in section Elegans. F. nygamai and F. napiforme might be another same section which would lie between section Liseola and section Elegans. The results were consistent with the comparison of isoenzyme patterns in these species.
The family Araneidae is a group of orb-weaving spiders and is one of the most diverse groups among the order Araneae. Eighty-one species belonging to 25 genera have been recorded in Korea to date. In this study, four araneid spiders in three genera, viz., Araneus mayumiae, Araneus ogatai, Cyclosa onoi, and Plebs baotianmanensis, were discovered for the first time in Korea. Additionally, Plebs yebongsanensis is removed from synonymy of Plebs sachalinensis, and treated as a new junior synonym of P. baotianmanensis, based on a morphological comparison of females of three Plebs species. Detailed descriptions of four species are provided with accompanying photographs.

Mycena subpiligera, a new taxon in sect. Fragilipedes that can strongly enhance the germination efficiency of Gastrodia elata seeds, was discovered in subtropical areas of China. As revealed by a morphological comparison with related Mycena species as well as maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian phylogenetic analyses based on sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and the large subunit (LSU) regions of nuclear ribosomal RNA, the new taxon can be distinguished from phenotypically similar and phylogenetically related species. Optimal cultural conditions for M. subpiligera basidiomata are reported, and the germination rate of the new species is compared with that of M. citrinomarginata.
