  • In this paper, a simple tut accurate method of vibration analysis of structural elements with or without attached mass/masses is presented. The method used has been developed by the senior author since 1974. This method is very effective for the plates with arbitrary boundary conditions and irregular sections. This method is applied to the special orthotropic Plate with two opposite edges simply supported and the other two opposite edges free. Such plate represents the most of the simply supported bridges/decks, including concrete and girders-cross beam systems. Detailed illustration is given for beams and plates for easy understanding. Some laminate orientation for which the special orthotropic equations can be applied are identified.

  • The problem considered is the buckling of a rectangular orthotropic plate, tapered in thickness in a direction parallel to two sides and compressed in that direction. Curves are presented showing the variation of buckling stress coefficient with the special loads. The type of thickness variation is exponential. While this paper is presented how to design for an efficient orthotropic plate taper from physical consideration.

  • This paper presents the result of analysis of special orthotropic plates supported by elastic foundation and simple supported edges. Convergence and accuracy of the solution are examined and it is verified that the solution obtained is sufficiently accurate. The effect of the spring constant, k, on deflection is studied.

The effect of non-homogeneity on the stability of laminated orthotropic conical shells subjected to hydrostatic pressure

  • In this study, the stability of laminated homogeneous and non-homogeneous orthotropic truncated conical shells with freely supported edges under a uniform hydrostatic pressure is investigated. It is assumed that the composite material is orthotropic and the material properties depend only on the thickness coordinate. The basic relations, the modified Donnell type stability and compatibility equations have been obtained for laminated non-homogeneous orthotropic truncated conical shells. Applying Galerkin method to the foregoing equations, the expression for the critical hydrostatic pressure is obtained. The appropriate formulas for the single-layer and laminated, cylindrical and complete conical shells made of homogeneous and non-homogeneous, orthotropic and isotropic materials are found as a special case. Finally, effects of non-homogeneity, number and ordering of layers and variations of shell characteristics on the critical hydrostatic pressure are investigated.

  • Wood, laminates, reinforced concrete, and some special types of metals systems with controlled grain orientation are often orthotropic and at least rectilinearly anisotropic from point to point, if regarded as homogeneous media. Orthotropic bodies where a crack is not associated with a plane of elastic symmetry may be conveniently treated as a crack problem in a generally anisotropic body. At this work, approach for the determination of the stress intensity factors (SIF) of anisotropic body using crack tip singular elements is presented. Caculated values are in good agreement with the others.

  • Vibration analysis for some of simple supported antisymmetric composite laminated plate loaded uniformly distributed axial force and attached mass was carried out. Because it is complicated to analysis this type of plate by theory of antisymmetric laminate, possibility for application of theory of special orthotropic laminate was studied, and natural frequency of laminated plate attached mass was calculated. Stiffness $B_{16}$, $B_{26}$, $D_{16}$, $D_{26}$ for this type of antisymmetric laminated plate converge on zero as the number of ply increases and it is possible to use classical theory by reason that considered plate has quasi-homogeneity without relevance to variation of angle. Difference between results by theory of antisymmetric and special orthotropic laminate is 0.36~1.96%, therefore it is convenient to analyze this by use of theory of special orthotropic laminate. When composite laminated plate with attached mass is analyzed range that was able to neglect self-weight of plate was proposed.

  • The Special orthotropic plate theory is used for analysis of panels made of steel girders and cross-beams, and made of reinforced concrete. The cross-sections of girders and cross-beams are WF types. The result is compared with that of the beam theory. According to the numerical examination given in this paper, the result by the plate theory is 2.43 times stiffer than that of beam theory, The result for the concrete slab in given for the practicing engineers.

  • 본 연구에서는 기존연구에 비하여 해의 형태가 간단하고 비교적 오차가 적은 해를 구하기 위하여 MorleyKoiter의 등방성 원통셸의 변위 및 응력상태를 2중 Fourier 급수를 적용하여 해석하였으며 수치예를 통하여 이들 값의 직교이방특성 및 셸형상에 따른 영향을 고찰하였다.

  • The energy release rates for a dynamically growing crack in orthotropic materials are expressed explicitly in terms of dynamic stress intensity factors. The stress functions suitable for the problem are found and the evaluation of the J-integral for the theoretical singular crack tip fields yields energy release rates. The present results are simpler than the existing ones and can be reduced to the well known solutions in special cases. Examples of extracting stress intensity factors from the finite element solution using the present results are given for the dynamically growing crack problem of orthotropic materials.
