In comparison with the long and continuous his-tory of research in the general area of stress and coping, theoretical and clinical interest in family stress and adaptation is a recent phenomenon. To understand the phenomena of family behavior, a comprehensive theoretical framework is needed to us provide an adequate background to for research. This study was designed to develop and test a hypothetical model for family stress and adaptation in families with handicapped children. A hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of the family stress theory developed by McCubbin etc. The model included six paths. For the purpose of model testing, empirical data was collected from May to August, 1992. The subjects of the study were 190 parents of chidren in five special schools and one private institute in Seoul and Choong Nam. An SPSS P $C^{+}$ and PC-LISREL 7.13 computer programs were used for descriptive and covariance structure analysis. The results of the study are as follows. (1) Family Stress(${\gamma}$$_{3l}$=-.288, T=-4.942) had a direct effect on Family Adaptation. (2) Family Functioning ($\beta$$_{21}$=-.373, T=5.595) had a direct effect on Situational Definition. (3) Family Functioning ($\beta$$_{31}$ =.334, T=5.375) had a direct effect on Family Adaptation. (4) Situational Definition( a2=.270, T=4.285) had a direct effect on Family Adaptation The model was supported by the empirical data. Thus it is suggested that the model could be adequately applied to family nursing care of families with a mentally handicapped child. In particular, the nursing interventions that enhance family functioning and the situational definition would improve family adaptation in families with mentally handicapped children.n.n.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-esteem and quality of life (QOL) and between coping type and quality of life (QOL) in mothers of handicapped children and (further to identify the level of self-esteem and quality of life of the subjects. The subjects of this study were the 51 mothers of handicapped children who were registered in two special schools in Taejon. The data were collected using a questionnaire and the period of the data collection was from April 18th to May 26th, 1997. The instruments for this study were Rosenberg's self-esteem scale, Folkman & Lazarus's Ways of Coping Checklist(WCC) and the quality of life scale designed by Ro, You Ja. The results were analyzed using SPSS/PC/sup +/. Data analysis included the descriptive correlational statistics of ANOVA. Pearson Correlational Coefficient, and t-test. The results are as follows : 1. The level of self-esteem showed a mean score 34.51 and the level of QOL, a mean score 137.55. An Active type of coping was used more of fen than a passive one. 2. The level of self-esteem differed according to monthly income and was significantly higher in mothers of children with acquired handicaps than those of children with congenital handicaps. The level of QOL differed according to monthly income. 3. There was a positive correlation between health status and self-esteem(r=.355, p<.05), and between health status and QOL(r=.367, p<.01). 4. Test for hypothesis ; Hypothesis 1, "The higher the level of self-esteem in mothers of handicapped children, the higher their level of quality of life will be. "was supported (r=.755, p<.001) Hypothesis 2, "The QOL level for the active coping group as compared to the passive coping group will be higher. " was not supported.

Smart education is defined as creating new values through connecting educational elements based on smart devices and infrastructure. In the study, we propose a theoretical and procedural framework for developing smart learning activities, which is considered characteristic of smart education, as well as environments in smart schools of Sejong Special Autonomous city. In addition, we discuss an instructional model developed from the framework. A smart learning activity as a basic unit in instruction is represented as a block when design and instruction focuses on smart learning activities. The block consists of components from learning activities, motivation, information activities, and tools when a teacher has smart learning ideas. Based on the theoretical and procedural framework, the thought-sharing model (i.e., that learners share ideas and opinions with classmates, review classmates' work, and enhance their own work) is an instructional model that leads to smart education. We discuss considerations for developing instructional models using the framework.

The purposes of this study were 1) to investigate the oral health problem of the disabled according to the handicapped types, 2) to collect the empirical data for developing and establishing the oral health policies for the handicapped, and 3) to find out the major obstacles against the dental services and oral health promotion. The handicapped subjects were collected by designed cluster sampling and interviewed with structured questionnaire in order to measure the oral health knowledge and behaviors. The subjects were attending the special schools and private or public welfare institutions for crippled disorder, encephalopathy disorder, mental retardation, visual disturbance, hearing defect, and developmental disorder. Oral examination was conducted by 13 trained dentists. 1,476 of handicapped people were finally surveyed. The results were as follows; The experiences of visiting dental office during the last one year in 18~64 year-old disabled people were 48.86% in crippled disorder, 52.50% in mental retardation, 58.24% in visual disturbance, 39.29% in hearing defect, respectively. To improve this challenging situation, we should find out the obstacles against the dental service and oral hygiene maintenance by the types of handicap, and develop the oral health policies which could support and advocate the Korean disabled.
Purpose: This study is to examine the relationship between safety awareness and safety accident occurrence with elementary school students. Materials and methods: It selected 10 elementary schools under the supervision of Jeonnam Board of Education and sampled 700 students randomly from 2-3 classes in the 5th and the 6th grade. One preliminary survey was conducted to revise and complement the contents and forms of questionnaire with 70 students of a school from Apr. 1 to 6, 2004 and this study was conducted from Apr. 10 to 30, 2004. Total 700 questionnaires were distributed and 681 were collected (97%) and 602 were used for final analysis except 79 lacking responses. Data collected were analyzed with SPSS statistical program. Results: The average score of safety awareness of subjects by area was high as 2.72 points out of a possible 3. Area showing the highest safety awareness was safety from fire. Girl students had higher safety awareness than boy students. The fifth graders had higher safety awareness than the sixth graders. In safety awareness by the number of siblings, single son or single daughter showed the highest safety awareness. 53.2% of the subjects experienced accident for one year, the frequency of accident was mostly once and most of accidents were occurred at school. Accidents for the last year were higher in boy students, the sixth graders. According to relationship between safety awareness and safety accident, group with lower safety awareness in school safety(P < .022), traffic safety(P < .016), fire safety(P < .019), home safety(P < .007) and accident treatment and first aid(P < .003) had higher safety accidents than that with higher safety awareness. Conclusion: Development of safety education program by grade, that of parents safety education program, field experience and practice with students, teachers and parents and various safety education programs should be substantially and repeatedly accomplished for prevention education of safety accidents. In addition, to prevent and cope with safety accidents, safety education should be reflected on normal education, safety education textbook be developed, special safety education teachers be employed for safety education.
In this research, we investigated how interactive digital serious games could be used in traditional, offline, school classrooms. We asked four teachers from four different schools to use a job training serious game in their traditional job training curriculum and the teachers used the game in anyway they intended. As a result, the two main ways to integrate gaming into traditional curriculum were gaming within the curriculum and gaming outside the curriculum, although both methods were used to support the main curriculum. When the game was used outside the curriculum, teachers almost always had the students play the game during the computer lab class. Students also played games voluntarily during recess and at home. The factors that affected how the game was used were teacher, student, and location and accessibility of the computer.

The purpose of this research was to derive a expansive curriculum management measure by analyzing the curriculum on the field of library and information service. To fulfill this goal, five major South Korean universities and four major US graduate schools were selected for comparison of the curriculum on information service. In addition, the research analyzed the required examination subjects for the employment of librarians of public library. The comparison was conducted to comprehend the curricular contents of an academic information service; the latter was to identify the curricular contents of information service required by the libraries. the analysis showed that the field of academic information service included the knowledge on the information source of each area(collection development, subject bibliography, etc.) and the knowledge on user analysis(information service, user-study, reading guidance, etc.) Moreover, the employment requirement of the manager-level national examination demanded a comprehensive knowledge on information service theories, subject sources and users. The findings confirmed the need to strengthen the special subject service education in the information service curriculum.

In data analysis, SPSS PC+ and PC-LISREL 7.13 computer program were utilized for descriptive and covariance structure analysis. The results of lhe study were as follows. (1) Hypothetical model showed a good fit to the empirical data [Chi-square = 21.19 (df = 7, P = o. 003), Goodness of Fit Index=O.986, Adjusted Goodness of Fit Indes=0.946, Root Mean Square lesidual=0.048), Non Normed Fit Index = 0.80, Normed Fit Index=0.91]. (2) The results of Hypothesis testing indicated: 1) Social support(${\gamma}_11=.238$, T=2.352), Family Functioning(${\gamma}_12=.729$, T=5.957) had direct effects on situational definition. 2) life event stress(${\gamma}_23=.284$, T=5.220) had direct effects on the effect of the handicapped chid on the family. 3) Family functioning(${\gamma}_32=-.239$, T= -3.370) had direct effects on paternal adapation. From the above results, the significance of this study can be delineated as follows : The construction and testing of the comprehensive model seem to be the first trial in Korea. The model was supported by empirical dala. Thus it was suggested that model could be adequately applied to framily nusing care with the handicapped.

In Korea, small-scale reclaimed areas have been suffering from many problems because of the lack of comprehensive developing strategy although considerable investments have been inputed by the public sector since 1970's. For 3 reclaimed sites in Chonnam Province chosen as case study areas, the analysis, the third attempt of widely-spanned studies on areal conditions, concentrated on their living conditions. Its results were as follows : 1. Although rural residents have increased their concern on health and medical services, the public sector can only serve basic and emergent level of them, and therefore, the private sector, which is mostly placed in urban areas and costed much higher than public one, has the dominant share of those services. So, because those costs are a great expense to rural residents, their supplying system should be planned with special reference to lightening the economic burden of them. 2. By the development of locally fitted programs and innovative systems, the rural education should be qualitatively improved to deal successfully with its small scale. That will result in increasing the schooling rate to schools in rural communities, lightening the economic burden of rural residents on education services and finally activating them to contribute the betterment of rural education. 3. Servicing level of water supply, sewerage and garbage disposal in the reclaimed areas has been remaining at the lower order even in other rural areas. In the design of rural water supply, average daily consumption per capita should be changed according to the composition rate of fishing households and variety of the source of water supply. 4. Most of rural residents in the reclaimed areas want to establish the welfare facilites for the infant, youth, aged and public bath However in the long-term basis, the cooperative production and processing facilities should be considered for modernized efficient farming.

This study was conducted to compare the outward aspects, objectives, and the contents of Home Economics text books of middle schools of Korea, Japan, U.S.A. and England. The results were summarized as follows. 1. The outward aspects of tex books: The Korean text books were small in size and the quality of paper was inferior to those of foreign countries. The Japanese text books were written by many authors, contained many lab works and data. Text books of U.S.A. were big in size made with good quality paper and contained many colour pictures. Text books England contained many problems and lab works. 2. Objectives of the Home Economics and Unit objectives: The objective of the subjects of Home Economics was written only in Korean text books. The unit objectives were described most concretely and detailedly in Korean text books comparing with other countries. 3. Contents: Korean text books covered all six areas of foods, clothings, housing, home management, family and occupation and theoretical explanations prevailed. Japanese text books contained numerous lab works, lacked two areas of home management and occupation, thecontents included a few practical lab works two areas of home management and occupation, the contents included a few practical lab works. In the text books of U.S.A. contained all six areas of Home Economics were covered and special emphasis was placed on self discovory and self development, and vocational guidance was also stressed. The text book of England contained only three areas of Home Economics, clothing, foods and housing; the number of area was limited but the basic theories of covered area was intended to lead to self comprehension through questions and lab works.
