Teaching Assistants as a Prerequisite for Best Practice in Special Education Settings in Saudi Arabia

  • The Saudi Arabian Special Education Regulations define the role and requirements from teaching assistants within the educational process. Although all public special education programs are subject to such regulations, their implementation in practice sometimes appears contradictory. Therefore, special educators frequently encounter a range of problems when they fail to comply with such regulations. This article discusses how teaching assistants influence the teaching practices delivered to students with disabilities in special education settings. A qualitative case study approach was conducted using 22 semi-structured interviews. The results suggest a need to focus on the role of the teaching assistant in special education classes to ensure exposure to effective learning practices for students with disabilities. Based on these findings, a number of important implications for future practice, in terms adopting appropriate provisions are suggested.

특수학교 음악교과의 운영과 음악치료적 접근에 대한 교사인식 (Music Teachers' Perceptions of the Music Therapy Curriculum in Special Education Schools)

  • 본 연구는 특수학교 음악교사의 음악수업 경험을 통해 음악교과의 운영과 음악치료적인 접근에 대한 교사의 인식을 이해하고 탐구하는 것이 목적이다. 이러한 연구목적에 따라 7명의 특수학교 음악교사들을 대상으로 포커스 그룹 인터뷰(Focus Group Interview)를 실시하였다. 심층면접 결과로 4개의 대주제와 14개의 하위 주제가 도출되었다. 도출된 대주제에 대한 하위 주제는 다음과 같다. 1) 음악교과 수업의 목표와 형태-장애특성에 따라 다양하게 적용되는 수업, 악기 한 가지 연주하기와 노래 한곡 부를 수 있기, 웃을 수 있는 즐거운 음악시간, 공감과 미적 성취감, 2) 음악교과 수업운영의 어려움-생활연령에 맞지 않는 음악교과서, 중도 중복장애 학생들의 고요함, 물리적 심리적 시간의 부족, 음악교사로서의 자기평가, 3) 음악교과수업의 치료적 접근경험-음악치료를 통해 나타나는 긍정적인 효과에 대한 기대, 변화를 발견하는 기쁨, 함께하는 우리, 4) 음악교과 수업의 치료적 접근에 대한 방해요소와 지원요구-안전위주의 방어적 수업, 치료적 접근을 위한 전문지식의 부족, 관리자와 학교환경의 문제로 분류되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 특수교육현장에서 음악교과의 효과적인 운영을 위한 음악치료적 접근의 제한점과 실천적 방안 마련을 위한 논의를 하였다.

THE POWER OF PROGRAMMED GRAMMARS WITH GRAPHS FROM VARIOUS CLASSES

  • Programmed grammars, one of the most important and well investigated classes of grammars with context-free rules and a mechanism controlling the application of the rules, can be described by graphs. We investigate whether or not the restriction to special classes of graphs restricts the generative power of programmed grammars with erasing rules and without appearance checking, too. We obtain that Eulerian, Hamiltonian, planar and bipartite graphs and regular graphs of degree at least three are pr-universal in that sense that any language which can be generated by programmed grammars (with erasing rules and without appearance checking) can be obtained by programmed grammars where the underlying graph belongs to the given special class of graphs, whereas complete graphs, regular graphs of degree 2 and backbone graphs lead to proper subfamilies of the family of programmed languages.

한국의 세시풍속과 복식 -소설 <혼불>에 표현된 텍스트를 중심으로- (Korean Seasonal Costumes and Clothing Expressed in Novel, )

  • The Purpose of this study was to prospect new costume culture of 21st Century and to understand the meaning of clothing and clothing behavior which represent on Korean Seasonal Costumes expressed in novel, Honpul. The results were as follows; There are special Costumes in a Year. They are New year, First full moon, Servants day, making seasonings, Doo Rae, Wha-cheon Nori(enjoying blossoms) Costumes during spring season, Dan-Oh Costume in summer and Ya-Kwang-Gui(keeping shoes at all night), Su-Ya(overnight), Yeam-Bal(burning dropped hairs) Costume in winter season. There were many relationship with clothing in new year, Wha-cheon Nori and Servants day Costumes, but they only had adorning meaning without special symbolic or incantational meaning. Clothing and clothing behaviors in Seasoning making day Costume, Dan-Ho costume and Ya-Kwang-Gui, Su-Ya, Yeam-Bal Costumes contained practical meaning with incantational meaning. There were Servants day costumes and Doo-Rae Costumes for lower classes, New year and Wha-cheon Nori costumes for the higher classes. But the First full moon day costume was for both classes. This study will make us to grasp the meaning of clothing culture with Korean Seasonal Costumes, and be useful to measure the changes of Korean costume cultures.

A FURTHER GENERALIZATION OF APOSTOL-BERNOULLI POLYNOMIALS AND RELATED POLYNOMIALS

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce and investigate two new classes of generalized Bernoulli and Apostol-Bernoulli polynomials based on the definition given recently by the authors [29]. In particular, we obtain a new addition formula for the new class of the generalized Bernoulli polynomials. We also give an extension and some analogues of the Srivastava-Pint$\acute{e}$r addition theorem [28] for both classes. Finally, by making use of the new adition formula, we exhibit several interesting relationships between generalized Bernoulli polynomials and other polynomials or special functions.

  • In the paper, we introduce some new classes of generalized logh-convex functions in the first sense and in the second sense. We establish Hermite-Hadamard type inequality for different classes of generalized convex functions. It is shown that the classes of generalized log h-convex functions in both senses include several new and known classes of log h convex functions. Several special cases are also discussed. Results proved in this paper can be viewed as a new contributions in this area of research.

수준별 교육과정의 적용에 따른 수학과 심화 보충 과정과 특별 보충 과정의 내용 선정 및 교수-학습 자료 구성 방향 - 중학교 1학년 1학기 수학과 내용을 중심으로 - (The Supplemental and Enriched Course, and Special Remedy Course for Differentiated Curriculum of Mathematics)

  • One of the main features of the 7th revised national curriculum is the implementation of a 'Differentiated Curriculum'. Differentiated Curriculum is often interpreted as meaning the same as 'tracking' or 'ability grouping' in western countries. In the 7th revised curriculum, mathematics is organized and implemented by 'Level-Based Differentiated Curriculum'. To develop mathematics textbooks and teaching-and-learning materials for Differentiated Curriculum, the ideas of 'Enriched and Supplemental Differentiated Curriculum'need to be applied, that is, to provide advanced contents for fast learners, and plain contents for slow learners. Level Based Differentiated Curriculum could be implemented by ability grouping either between classes or within classes. According to these two exemplary models, the implementation models for supplemental course and enriched course are determined. The contents for supplemental course are comprised of minimal essential elements selected from the standard course at a decreased level of complexity and abstraction. The contents of enriched courses are focused on various applications of mathematical knowledge in the real world. Special remedy course will be offered to extremely underachieved students, The principles of developing teaching-and-learning material for special remedy course were obtained from the histo-genetic principle, progressive mathematizing principle, and constructivism.
