Among the techniques to protect private information by adopting biometrics, speaker verification is expected to be widely used due to advantages in convenient usage and inexpensive implementation cost Speaker verification should achieve a high degree of the reliability in the verification nout the flexibility in speech text usage, and the efficiency in verification system complexity. Continuants have excellent speaker-discriminant power and the modest number of phonemes in the category, and multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) have superior recognition ability and fast operation speed. In consequence, the two provide viable ways for speaker verification system to obtain the above properties. This paper implements a system to which continuants and MLPs are applied, and evaluates the system using a Korean speech database. The results of the experiment prove that continuants and MLPs enable the system to acquire the three properties.
It is well known that when there is an acoustic mismatch between the speech obtained during training and testing, the accuracy of speaker verification systems drastically deteriorates. This paper presents the use of MFCCs' histogram enhancement technique in order to improve the robustness of a speaker verification system. The technique transforms the features extracted from speech within an utterance such that their statistics conform to reference distributions. The reference distributions proposed in this paper are uniform distribution and beta distribution. The transformation modifies the contrast of MFCCs' histogram so that the performance of a speaker verification system is improved both in the clean training and testing environment and in the clean training and noisy testing environment.

Modern speaker verification systems based on support vector machines (SVMs) use Gaussian mixture model (GMM) supervectors as their input feature vectors, and the maximum a posteriori (MAP) adaptation is a conventional method for generating speaker-dependent GMMs by adapting a universal background model (UBM). MAP adaptation requires the appropriate amount of input utterance due to the number of model parameters to be estimated. On the other hand, with limited utterances, unreliable MAP adaptation can be performed, which causes adaptation noise even though the Bayesian priors used in the MAP adaptation smooth the movements between the UBM and speaker dependent GMMs. This paper proposes a sparse MAP adaptation method, which is known to perform well in the automatic speech recognition area. By introducing sparse MAP adaptation to the GMM-SVM-based speaker verification system, the adaptation noise can be mitigated effectively. The proposed method utilizes the L0 norm as a regularizer to induce sparsity. The experimental results on the TIMIT database showed that the sparse MAP-based GMM-SVM speaker verification system yields a 42.6% relative reduction in the equal error rate with few additional computations.
Speaker verification systems can be implemented using speaker adaptation methods if the amount of speech available for each target speaker is too small to train the speaker model. This paper shows experimental results using well-known adaptation methods, namely Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) and Maximum Likelihood Linear Regression (MLLR). Experimental results using Korean speech show that MLLR is more effective than MAP for short enrollment utterances.
Speaker verification determines whether the claimed speaker is accepted based on the score of the test utterance. In recent years, methods based on Gaussian mixture models and universal background model have been the dominant approaches for text-independent speaker verification. These speaker verification systems based on these methods provide very good performance under laboratory conditions. However, in real situations, the performance of speaker verification system is degraded dramatically. For overcoming this performance degradation, the feature recombination method was proposed, but this method had a drawback that whole sub-band feature vectors are used to compute the likelihood scores. To deal with this drawback, a modified feature recombination method which can use each sub-band likelihood score independently was proposed in our previous research. In this paper, we propose a sub-band weighting method based on sub-band signal-to-noise ratio which is combined with previously proposed modified feature recombination. This proposed method reduces errors by 28% compared with the conventional feature recombination method.

The multilayer perceptron (MLP) has several advantages against other pattern recognition methods, and is expected to be used as the learning and recognizing speakers of speaker verification system. But because of the low learning speed of the error backpropagation (EBP) algorithm that is used for the MLP learning, the MLP learning requires considerable time. Because the speaker verification system must provide verification services just after a speaker's enrollment, it is required to solve the problem. So, this paper tries to make short of time required to enroll speakers with the MLP based speaker verification system, using the method of improving the EBP learning speed and the method of reducing background speakers which adopts the cohort speakers method from the existing speaker verification.
In general, we have used the Viterbi algorithm of Speech recognition for decoding. But a decoder in speaker verification has to recognize same word of every speaker differently. In this paper, we propose a noble decoding algorithm that could replace the typical Viterbi algorithm for the speaker verification system. We utilize for the proposed algorithm the speaker adaptation algorithms that transform feature vectors into the region of the client' characteristics in the speech recognition. There are many adaptation algorithms, but we take MLLR (Maximum Likelihood Linear Regression) and MAP (Maximum A-Posterior) adaptation algorithms for proposed algorithm. We could achieve improvement of performance about 30% of EER (Equal Error Rate) using proposed algorithm instead of the typical Viterbi algorithm.
In speaker verification based on LPC analysis the prediction residues are ignored and LPCC(LPC cepstrum) are only used to compose feature vectors. In this study, LPCC and RCEP (residual cepstrum) extracted from residues are used as feature parameters in the various environmental speaker verification. We propose the weighting function which can enlarge inter-speaker variation by weighting pitch, speaker inherent vector, included in residual cepstrum. Simulation results show that the average speaker verification rate is improved in the rate of 6% with RCEP and LPCC at the same time and is improved in the rate of 2.45% with the proposed weighted RCEP and LPCC at the same time compared with no weighting.
This paper deals with the method of speaker verification based on the conventional cohort of fixed size. In particular, a new cohort of variable size, which makes use of the distance between speaker models, is proposed: The density of neighboring speaker models within the fixed distance from each speaker is taken into account in the proposed method. The high density leads to the increase of cohort size, thus improving the speaker verification rate. On the other hand, the low density leads to its decrease, thus reducing the amount of computations. The simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional one, achieving a reduction in the EER.
In this paper, we propose new algorithm of speaker recognition which identifies the speaker using the information obtained by the intensive speech feature analysis such as pitch, intensity, duration, and formant, which are crucial parameters of individual voice, for candidates of high percentage of wrong recognition in the existing speaker recognition algorithm. For testing the power of discrimination of individual parameter, DTW (Dynamic Time Warping) is used. We newly set the range of threshold which affects the power of discrimination in speech verification such that the candidates in the new range of threshold are finally discriminated in the next stage of sound parameter analysis. In the speaker verification test by using voice DB which consists of secret words of 25 males and 25 females of 8 kHz 16 bit, the algorithm we propose shows about 1% of performance improvement to the existing algorithm.
