  • In ubiquitous environments, many applications need to process data with time and space dimensions. Because of this, there is growing attention not only on gathering spatiotemporal data in ubiquitous environments, but also on processing such data in databases. In order to obtain the full benefits from spatiotemporal data, we need a data model that naturally expresses the properties of spatiotemporal data. In this paper, we introduce three spatiotemporal data models extended from temporal data models. The main goal of this paper is to determine which data model is less complex in the spatiotemporal context. To this end, we compare their query languages in the complexity aspect because the complexity of a query language is tightly coupled with its underlying data model. Throughout our investigations, we show that it is important to intertwine space and time dimensions and keep one-to-one correspondence between an object in the real world and a tuple in a database in order to naturally express queries in ubiquitous applications.

  • With the explosive increase in the generation and utilization of spatiotemporal data sets, many research efforts have been focused on the efficient handling of the large volume of spatiotemporal sets. With the remarkable growth of ubiquitous computing technology, mining from the huge volume of spatiotemporal data sets is regarded as a core technology which can provide real world applications with intelligence. In this paper, we propose a 3-tier knowledge discovery framework for spatiotemporal data mining. This framework provides a foundation model not only to define the problem of spatiotemporal knowledge discovery but also to represent new knowledge and its relationships. Using the proposed knowledge discovery framework, we can easily formalize spatiotemporal data mining problems. The representation model is very useful in modeling the basic elements and the relationships between the objects in spatiotemporal data sets, information and knowledge.

  • Most of data objects in the real world have spatial and temporal information simultaneously. One of the objectives of spatiotemporal databases is to provide a very expressive framework for spatiotemporal database applications. The object oriented spatiotemporal model can manage spatiotemporal data efficiently because the model is able to store the complete history of any objects. Therefore, in order to handle the spatiotemporal data in object oriented fashion, we proposed a low dimensional spatiotemporal model in the object oriented fashion that extended dimensionally two dimensional spatial model of OpenGIS to fit into the real world information and to include temporal information. In order to proof the proposed model, we design a data provider component which consists of the data source, the session, the command, and the rowset component, and implement it. The proposed four dimensional spatiotemporal data model and provider in the object oriented fashion can be used to store, retrieve and manage the object oriented spatiotemporal data.

  • Spatiotemporal data are records of the spatial changes of moving objects over time. Most data in corporate databases have a spatiotemporal nature, but they are typically treated as merely descriptive semantic data without considering their potential visual (or cartographic) representation. Businesses such as geographical CRM, location-based services, and technologies like GPS and RFID depend on the storage and analysis of spatiotemporal data. Effectively handling the data analysis process may be accomplished through spatiotemporal data warehouse and spatial OLAP. This paper proposes a multidimensional model for spatiotemporal data analysis, and cartographically represents the results of the analysis.

  • The data models which express all types of video information physically and logically. and the definition of spatiotemporal relationship of video data objects In This paper, we classifies meta-model for efficient management on spatiotemporal relationship between two objects in video image data, suggests meta-models based on Rambaugh's OMT technique, and expanded user model to apply the adaptive model, established from hyper-media or web agent to VOD. The proposed meta-model uses data's special physical feature: the effects of camera's and editing effects of shot, and 17 spatial relations on Allen's 13 temporal relations, topology and direction to include logical presentation of spatiotemporal relation for possible spatiotemporal reference and having unspecified applied mediocrity.

  • As the development of database technology for managing spatiotemporal data, new types of spatiotemporal application services that need the spatiotemporal knowledge discovery from the large volume of spatiotemporal data are emerging. In this paper, a new 3-layered discovery framework for the development of spatiotemporal knowledge discovery techniques is proposed. The framework supports the foundation model in order not only to define spatiotemporal knowledge discovery problem but also to represent the definition of spatiotemporal knowledge and their relationships. Also the components of spatiotemporal knowledge discovery system and its implementation model are proposed. The discovery framework proposed in this paper satisfies the requirement of the development of new types of spatiotemporal knowledge discovery techniques. The proposed framework can support the representation model of each element and relationships between objects of the spatiotemporal data set, information and knowledge. Hence in designing of the new types of knowledge discovery such as spatiotemporal moving pattern, the proposed framework can not only formalize but also simplify the discovery problems.

  • Visual analysis of spatiotemporal data has focused on a variety of techniques for analyzing and exploring the data. The goal of these techniques is to explore the spatiotemporal data using time information, discover patterns in the data, and analyze spatiotemporal data. The overall trend flow patterns help users analyze geo-referenced temporal events. However, it is difficult to extract and visualize overall trend flow patterns using data that has no trajectory information for movements. In order to visualize overall trend flow patterns, in this paper, we estimate continuous distributions of discrete events over time using KDE, and we extract vector fields from the continuous distributions using the gravity model. We then apply our technique on twitter data to validate techniques.

  • Most of works have been performed on representation of spatiotemporal objects from various points of view. Most of them represent spatiotemporal objects using approaches from GIS, temporal databases, object-oriented databases or data type. Spatiotemporal objects can be classified as objects whose position and shape changes discretely over time, objects whose position changes continuously and objects whose shape changes continuously as well as position. Previous works on spatiotemporal model have focused on only one of them. In this paper, we propose a spatiotemporal model that can represent three types of objects in Euclidean plan. For this purpose, we represent both discrete and continuous moving objects by defining temporal model extended from valid time and by defining relationship between two consecutive versions of objects. The proposed spatiotemporal object model is based on open GIS specification so that it has compatibility with existing spatial data model.

  • Although spatial databases support an efficient spatial management on objects in the real world, they have a characteristic that process only spatial information valid at current time, So in case of change in the spatial domain, it is very hard to support an efficient historical management for time-varying spatial information because they delete an old value and then replace with new value that is valid at current time. To solve these problems, there are rapidly increasing of interest for spatiotemporal databases, which serve historical functions for spatial information as well as spatial management functions for an object. However most of them presented in an abstract time-varying spatial phenomenon, but have not presented a concrete policy in spatiotemporal databases. In this paper, we propose a spatiotemporal data model that supports bitemporal time concepts in three dimensional architecture. In the proposed model, not only data types and their operation for object of spatiotemporal databases have been classified, but also mathematical expressions using formal semantics for them have been given. Then, the data structures and their operations based on relational database model as well as object-oriented database model are presented.

  • Land information is the real-time spatial thing which must be considered with spatial and time factors. This study aims to apply and implement an appropriate spatiotemporal model for land information by exploring spatiotemporal data models which have been suggested in the previous studies. The implemented spatiotemporal model in this study is characterized by time and attribute. In the time aspect, it is divided by valid time and transaction time, and in the attribute aspect, includes the related information such as area and ownership. At the spatial point of view, the model has a spaghetti information structure as reducing information overlapped by managing the spatial information coordinates. The spatiotemporal land information model in this study facilitates representing the quality of attribute, spatial and time information.
