  • We develop the Spatio-Temporal Graph to imbue the historical context to the situations in a virtual world, and an ontology to enable a structural description of their elements such as the objects, relationships, and activities. In the time dimension the graph models all the temporal phases of the future besides the past and present in a comprehensive manner, and all the spatial aspects in an intuitive but efficient fashion. The overall architecture composing the Physical Layer, Logical Layer and Conceptual Layer which are integrated according to their interrelations allows events occurring in their corresponding worlds to be simulated in historical context. The S-T Graph could be used both to simulate the situations in the virtual world and to realize the knowledge systems of the virtual inhabitants to be used in judging and evaluating those situations. By adding temporal changes to the multi-layered architecture of our virtual world, this model lays a foundation for maximizing the diversity of situations in the simulation of a virtual world.

  • Historical-cultural contents are digitized documents of records or evidences about changes of human society. The changes or evolvements are results of the interaction between society and environment. So the different feafures are appears by spatio-temporal observing locations Historical-cultural contents need to be designed so that the preservation and exchange of information, adaptation to changes of the future are easy. So historical-cultural contents have structured to support the intelligent services based on context. This study propose context-based ontology-design method based on events, and we implemented web services of Bible contents by proposed method.

  • This study aims to predict the changes in population distribution in Korea by considering spatio-temporal characteristics of major migration reasons. For the purpose, we analyze the spatio-temporal characteristics of each major migration reason(such as job, family, housing, and education) and estimate the transition probability, respectively. By appling Markov chain model processes with the ChapmanKolmogorov equation based on the transition probability, we predict the changes in the population distribution for the next six years. As the results, we found that there were differences of population changes by regions, while there were geographic movements into metropolitan areas and cities in general. The methodologies and the results presented in this study can be utilized for the provision of customized planning policies. In the long run, it can be used as a basis for planning and enforcing regionally tailored policies that strengthen inflow factors and improve outflow factors based on the trends of population inflow and outflow by region by movement factors as well as identify the patterns of population inflow and outflow in each region and predict future population volatility.

  • Time is regarded as an essential feature of land information enabling to track historical landmarks of land uses, ownerships, and taxations based on cadastral maps. Object-oriented temporal modeling helps to simulate and imitate time-varying cadastral data in a chronological and persistent manner. The aim of study is to analyze the role of temporal cadastre tracing footprints of foregoing events in response to various needs and demands associated with historical information of cadastral transactions. In this paper, temporal cadastral object model (TCOM) is proposed to delineate object version history. As an evidence of a new approach and conceptual idea for the importance of temporal cadastre, a part of spatio-temporal processes is illustrated to explain major changes of cadastral map. The feasibility and application of the approach is confirmed by proof-of-concept of temporal cadastre in land information management.

  • Spatio-temporal distributions of nighttime fishing fleets were described with the aid of geographic information system (GIS) technology in the East Sea, using daily mean composite images of the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) /Operational Linescan System (OLS) in 1993 and 1994. We selected a study area from 30$^{\circ}$N to 44$^{\circ}$N in latitude and from 124$^{\circ}$E to 142$^{\circ}$E in longitude in order to describe the monthly and seasonal changes of nighttime fishing fleets. The OLS images of nighttime visible band provide useful information about the spatio-temporal distribution of the fishing fleets. Density areas of nighttime fishing fleets were around Tsushima/Korea Strait. the east coast of the Korea Peninsula, the coast of Honshu, and around Yamato Bank.

  • Recently, the needs of index structure which manages moving objects efficiently have been increased because of the rapid development of location-based techniques. Existing index structures frequently need updates because moving objects change continuatively their positions. That caused entire performance loss of the index structures. In this paper, we propose a new index structure called the TPKDB-tree that is a spatio-temporal index structure based on KDB-tree. Our technique optimizes update costs and reduces a search time for moving objects and reduces unnecessary updates by expressing moving objects as linear functions. Thus, the TPKDB-tree efficiently supports the searches of future positions of moving objects by considering the changes of moving objects included in the node as time-parameter. To maximize space utilization, we propose the new update and split methods. Finally, we perform various experiments to show that our approach outperforms others.

  • In this study we compared three models for small area estimation, Fay-Herriot, Hierarchical Bayses model and spatio-temporal model about charter, monthly rent price index. Charter, monthly rent price of Korea are important issue in these days. Because housing type rapidly changes from self to charter and monthly rent. The accuracy of the estimation was checked on four scales, that is ARB, ASRB, AAB, ASD. In this result, the spatio-temporal model among applied models has most optimal scales about small area estimation of charter and monthly rent index.

  • In this study, to develop an assessment method for spatio-temporal riverbed changes, a 1-dimensional model (HEC-RAS) and a 2-dimensional model (CCHE2D) were built and applied. As for the analysis of a riverbed's long-term change in a real stream, three new assessment methods were developed, which are called the "Sediment section cumulative curve", "Sediment section moment", and "Sediment probability distribution function." These methods were used to assess the characteristics of riverbed changes using a consistent valuation standard and to understand changes in quantities intuitively. From the results of this study, sediment characteristics of cross sections can be detected effectively by applying the "Sediment section cumulative curve" method to determine whether there is any sedimentation or erosion in total emission. The amount of sedimentation or erosion occurring in the right or left banks, which divided by center column, could be presented as one criterion by applying the "Sediment section moment" method. This approach could be utilized as an indicator for sediment predictions. Spatio-temporal sediment variables can be presented quantitatively by determining the mean and uncertain boundaries through the "Sediment probability distribution function", and finally, the results can be illustrated for each cross section to provide intuitive recognition.
