  • When a spatial regression model that uses kernel density values as a dependent variable is applied to retail business data, a unique model cannot be selected because kernel density values change following kernel bandwidths. To overcome this problem, this paper suggests how to use the point pattern analysis, especially the L-index to select a unique spatial regression model. In this study, kernel density values of retail business are computed by the bandwidth, the distance of the maximum L-index and used as the dependent variable of spatial regression model. To test this procedure, we apply it to meeting room business data in Seoul, Korea. As a result, a spatial error model (SEM) is selected between two popular spatial regression models, a spatial lag model and a spatial error model. Also, a unique SEM based on the real distribution of retail business is selected. We confirm that there is a trade-off between the goodness of fit of the SEM and the real distribution of meeting room business over the bandwidth of maximum L-index.

  • It can be advantage as well as disadvantage to use the spatial weight matrix in a spatial regression model; it would benefit from explicitly quantifying spatial relationships between geographical units, but necessarily involve subjective judgment while specifying the matrix. We took Incheon City as a study area and investigated how the fitness of a spatial regression model changed by constructing various spatial weight matrices. In addition, we explored neighborhood segmentation in the study area and analyzed any influence of it on the model adequacy of two basic spatial regression models, i.e., spatial lagged and spatial error models. The results showed that it can help to improve the adequacy of models to specify the spatial weight matrix strictly, that is, interpreting the neighborhood as small as possible when estimating land price. It was also found that the spatial error model would be preferred in the area with serious spatial heterogeneity. In such area, we found that its spatial heterogeneity can be alleviated by delineating sub-neighborhoods, and as a result, the spatial lagged model would be preferred over the spatial error model.

  • In this study we predict apartment prices per unit in Daegu-Gyeongbuk areas by spatial lag and spatial error models, both of which belong to so-called spatial regression model. A spatial weight matrix is constructed by k-nearest neighbours method and then the models for the apartment prices in March, 2012 are fitted using the weight matrix. The apartment prices in March, 2013 are predicted by the fitted spatial regression models and then performances of two spatial regression models are compared by RMSE (root mean squared error), RRMSE (root relative mean squared error), MAE (mean absolute error).

  • Recently, a profit analysis in hospital management is considered as an important marketing concept. When spatial variability is presented, we must analyze the hospital data with spatial statistical methods. In this study, we present a regression model using spatial covariance for adjustment. And we compare the nonspatial model with spatial model.

  • Landslides are major natural geological hazards that result in a large amount of property damage each year, with both direct and indirect costs. Many researchers have produced landslide susceptibility maps using various techniques over the last few decades. This paper presents the landslide susceptibility results from the geographically weighted regression model using remote sensing and geographic information system data for landslide susceptibility in the Inje area of South Korea. Landslide locations were identified from aerial photographs. The eleven landslide-related factors were calculated and extracted from the spatial database and used to analyze landslide susceptibility. Compared with the global logistic regression model, the Akaike Information Criteria was improved by 109.12, the adjusted R-squared was improved from 0.165 to 0.304, and the Moran’s I index of this analysis was improved from 0.4258 to 0.0553. The comparisons of susceptibility obtained from the models show that geographically weighted regression has higher predictive performance.

  • The correlation between regional Walkability Index and their physical socio-economic characteristics has evaluated by the spatial statistical analysis to understand the urban pedestrian environments, where has been emerging the significance, recently. Following to the study, the Walkability Indexes were calculated quantitatively from two administrative districts of Busan and measured Global Local spatial autocorrelation indices. Additionally, the Geographically Weighted Regression model was applied to define the correlation between Walkability Indexes and urban environmental variables. The spatial autocorrelation values and clusters on the Walkability Indexes were derived in statistically significant level. Furthermore, the Geographically Weighted Regression model has been derived more improved inference than the OLS regression model, so as the influence of local level pedestrian environment was identified. The results of this study suggest that the spatial statistical approach can be effective on quantitative assessing the pedestrian environment and navigating their associated factors.

  • Using appropriate raw materials for cement is crucial for providing the required products. Monitoring relationships and analyzing distributions in a cement material quarry are important stages in the process. CaO, one of the substantial chemical components, is included in some raw materials such as limestone and marl; furthermore, appraising spatial assessment of this chemical component is also very critical. In this study, spatial evaluation and monitoring of CaO concentrations in a cement site are considered. For this purpose, two effective regression-based models were applied to a cement quarry located in Turkey. For the assessment, some spatial models were developed and performance comparisons were carried out. The results show that the regression-based spatial modelling is an efficient methodology and it can be employed to evaluate spatially varying relationships in a cement quarry.

  • In most of the urbanized cities, socio-economic attributes tend to cluster as patterns of similarity in space, namely spatial autocorrelation, by agglomeration forces. The classical linear regression model, the most frequently adopted in the trip generation step, cannot sufficiently represent this effect. In order to take into account the effect properly, we need a model which adequately deals with the spatial dependence patterns. In this study, the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model is adopted as an alternative method for the local analysis of relationships in multivariate data sets; that is GWR extends this traditional regression framework by estimating local rather than global parameters. This study shows the existence of spatial effects in the production and attraction of home base/non-home based trips through the GWR model using travel data collected in Daegu metropolitan area. Furthermore, LISA is employed to verify the fact that the local spatial autocorrelation exists.

  • Purpose: In this study, we examine the effects of circulatory diseases mortality in South Korea 2005-2013 using the air pollution index, Methods: We cluster the region of high risk mortality by SaTScan$^{TM}$9.3.1 and compare this result with the regional distribution of air pollution. We use the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) to consider the spatial heterogeneity of data collected by administrative district in order to estimate the model. As GWR is spatial analysis techniques utilizing the spatial information, regression model estimated for each region on the assumption that regression coefficients are different by region. Results: As a result of estimating model of the collected air pollution index, circulatory diseases mortality data combined with the spatial information, GWR was found to solve the problem of spatial autocorrelation and increase the fit of the model than OLS regression model. Conclusion: GWR is used to select the air pollution affecting the disease each year, the K-means cluster analysis discover the characteristics of the distribution of air pollution by region.
