In the view from most application system developers and users, cloud computing becomes popular in recent years and is still evolving. But in fact it is not easy to reach at the level of actual operations. Despite, it is known that the cloud in the practical stage provides a new pattern for deploying a geo-spatial application. However, domestically geo-spatial application implementation and operation based on this concept or scheme is on the beginning stage. It is the motivation of this works. Although this study is an introductory level, a simple and practical processed result was presented. This study was carried out on Amazon web services platform, as infrastructure as a service in the geo-spatial areas. Under this environment, cloud instance, a web and mobile system being previously implemented in the multi-layered structure for geo-spatial open sources of database and application server, was generated. Judging from this example, it is highly possible that cloud services with the functions of geo-processing service and large volume data handling are the crucial point, leading a new business model for civilian remote sensing application and geo-spatial enterprise industry. The further works to extend geo-spatial applications in cloud computing paradigm are left.
Multi-level geographic data can be mainpulated by a window query such as a zoom operation. In order to handle multi-level geographic data efficiently, a spatial indexing method supporting a window query is needed. However, the conventional spatial indexing methods are not efficient to access multi-level geographic data quickly. To solve it, other a few spatial indexing methods for multi-level geographic data are known. However these methods do not support all types of multi-level geographic data. This paper presents a new efficient spatial indexing method, the MLR-tree for window query of multi-level geographic data. The MLR-tree offers both high search performance and no data redundancy. Experiments show them. Moreover, the MLR-tree supports all types of multi-level geographic data.
In this paper, we focus on the filtering step of candidate objects for spatial join operations on the input tables that none of the inputs is indexed. Over the last decade, several spatial Join algorithms for the input tables with index have been extensively studied. Those algorithms show excellent performance over most spatial data, while little research on solving the performance degradation in the presence of skewed data has been attempted. Therefore, we propose a spatial hash strip join(SHSJ) algorithm that can refine the problem of skewed data in the conventional spatial hash Join(SHJ) algorithm. The basic idea is similar to the conventional SHJ algorithm, but the differences are that bucket capacities are not limited while allocating data into buckets and SSSJ algorithm is applied to bucket join operations. Finally, as a result of experiment using Tiger/line data set, the performance of the spatial hash strip join operation was improved over existing SHJ algorithm and SSSJ algorithm.
Recently, GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) has been improved rapidly on the need of speed for gaming. As a result, GPU contains multiple ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) for parallel processing of a lot of graphics data, such as transform, ray tracing, etc. Therefore, this paper proposed a technique for parallel processing of spatial data using GPU. Spatial data consists of multiple coordinates, and each coordinate contains value of x and y axis. To display spatial data graphics operations have to be processed to large amount of coordinates. Because the graphics operation is identical and coordinates are multiple data, SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) parallel processing of GPU can be used for processing of spatial data to improve performance. This paper implemented SIMD parallel processing of spatial data using two kinds of SDK (Software Development Kit). CUDA and ATI Stream are used for NVIDIA and ATI GPU respectively. Experiments that measure time of calculation for graphics operations are carried out to observe enhancement of performance. Experimental result is reported that proposed method can enhance performance up to 1,162% for graphics operations. The proposed method that uses parallel processing with GPU for spatial data can be generally used to enhance performance for applications which deal with large amount of spatial data.
Mobile map services using PDA are prevailing because of the rapid developments of techniques of the internet and handhold devices recently. While the volume of spatial data is tremendous and the spatial operations are time-intensive, the PDA has small size memory and a low performance processor. Therefore, the spatial index for PDA should be small size and efficiently filter out the candidate objects of spatial operation as well. This paper proposes a spatial index far PDA called MHF(Multilevel Hashing File). The MHF has simple structure for storage efficiency and uses a hashing technique, which is direct search method, for search efficiency. This paper also designs a compression technique for MBR. which occupies almost 80% of index data in the two dimensional case. We call it HMBR. Although the HMBR technique reduces the MB\ulcorner size to almost a third, it shows good filtering efficiency because of no information loss by quantization in case of small objects that occupy a major portion. Our experimental tests show that the proposed MHF index using HMBR technique is appropriate for PDA in terms of the size of index, the Number of MBR comparisons, the filtering efficiency and the execution time of spatial operations.
Most spatial data handled in GIS is two-dimensional. These two-dimensional data is established by selecting 2D aspects form 3D, or by projecting 3D onto 2D space. During this conversion, without user's intention, data are abstracted and omitted. This unwanted data loss causes disadvantages such as restrictingof the range of data application and describing inaccurate real world. Recently, three dimensional data is getting wide interests and demands. One of the examplesis Database Management System which can store and manage three dimensional spatial data. However, this DBMS does not support spatial query which is the essence of the database management system. So, various studies are needed in this field. This research designs spatial relationship that is defined in space database standard using the three-dimension space model. The spatial data model, which is used in this research, is the one defined in OGC for GMS3, and designing tool is DE-9IM based on Point-Set Topology blow as the best method for topological operation.
The most expensive spatial operation in patial database in a spatial join which computes a combined table of which tuple consists of two tuples of the two tables satisgying a spatial predicate. Although the execution time of sequential processing of a spatial join has been so far considerably improved the response time is not tolerable because of not meeting the requiremetns of interactive users. It is usually appropriate to use parallel processing to improve the performance of spatial join processing. in spatial database the fixed grids which consist of the regularly partitioned cells can be employed the previous works on the spatial joins have not studied the parallel processing of spatial joins using fixed grids. This paper has presented an analytical cost model that estimates the comparative performance of a parallel spatial join algorithm based on the fixed grids in terms of the number of MBR comparisons. disk accesses, and message passing, Several experiments on the synthetic and real datasets show that the proposed analytical model is very accurate. This most model is also expected to used for implementing a very important DBMS component, Called the query processing optimizer.
Abstract It is necessary that the integrity of spatial data shared through the spatial database system is validated and appropriately maintained, otherwise the activity of whole application system is unpredictable. Specially, the integrity of spatial data stored in public GIS has to be validated, because those data are used by various applications which make a decision on an important policy of the region and/or whole nation such as evaluation of land use, city planning, resource management, facility management, risk management/safety supervision, national defense. In this paper, we propose rule management system to support validating the integrity of spatial object, using the technique of active rule technique from active DBMS. Validating data integrity using active rules allows database application programmer to be free from a burden on validation of the data integrity. This system is an independent, external system that is not subject to specific DBMS and consists of three parts, which are the active rule manager, the rule base, and the triggered rule generator. When an user tries to manipulate spatial objects through a spatial database application program, this system serves to efficiently manage integrity rules to be inserted into the application program to validate the integrity constraints of all the spatial objects manipulated by database transactions.
Most decision support functions of spatial data warehouse rely on the OLAP operations upon a spatial cube. Meanwhile, higher performance is always guaranteed by indexing the cube, which stores huge amount of pre-aggregated information. Hierarchical Dwarf was proposed as a solution, which can be taken as an extension of the Dwarf, a compressed index for cube structures. However, it does not consider the spatial dimension and even aggregates incorrectly if there are redundant values at the lower levels. OLAP-favored Searching was proposed as a spatial hierarchy based OLAP operation, which employs the advantages of R-tree. Although it supports aggregating functions well against specified areas, it ignores the operations on the spatial dimensions. In this paper, an indexing approach, which aims at utilizing the concept hierarchy of the spatial cube for decision support, is proposed. The index consists of concept hierarchy trees of all dimensions, which are linked according to the tuples stored in the fact table. It saves storage cost by preventing identical trees from being created redundantly. Also, it reduces the OLAP operation cost by integrating the spatial and aspatial dimensions in the virtual concept hierarchy.
Establishment of safety net for the socially disadvantaged attracts large attention because of the recent crime increasing against vulnerable groups. For the successful establishment of social safety net, the test-bed for evaluation and realization of crime-related research results is required. However, previous R&D test-bed projects such as The Korean Land Specialization Program or U-Eco City project remains only to the stage of verification. Therefore, there are limitedness for realization of result technologies or sustainable operation & management of test-bed after projects finished. So, sustainable operation & management system and guideline of test-bed are necessary. Therefore, this study reviews the strengths and weaknesses of existing test-bed cases and intelligent security researches. After reviewing, the concept of a Intelligent Security Test-bed is established and appropriate test-bed selection criteria is also suggested. Based on objective criteria, selected test-bed can achieve sustainable management even after finishing the project and contribute the construction of standard model for citizen's safety.
