Road information is very important for topographic mapping, transportation application, urban planning and other related application fields. Therefore, automatic detection of road networks from spatial imagery, such as aerial photos and satellite imagery can play a central role in road information acquisition. In this paper, we use least squares correlation matching alone for road center tracking and show that it works. We assumed that (bright) road centerlines would be visible in the image. We further assumed that within a same road segment, there would be only small differences in brightness values. This algorithm works by defining a template around a user-given input point, which shall lie on a road centerline, and then by matching the template against the image along the orientation of the road under consideration. Once matching succeeds, new match proceeds by shifting a matched target window further along road orientation at the target window. By repeating the process above, we obtain a series of points, which lie on a road centerline successively. A 1m resolution IKONOS images over Seoul and Daejeon were used for tests. The results showed that this algorithm could extract road centerlines in any orientation and help in fast and exact he ad-up digitization/vectorization of cartographic images.
Recently, spatial information technologies using remotely sensed imagery and functionality of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) have been widely utilized to various types of transportation-related applications. In this study, extraction programs of some practical indices, to be effectively used in transportation reference planning problem, were designed and implemented as prototyped extensions in GIS development environment: traffic flow estimation (TFL/TFB), urban rural index (URI), and accessibility index (AI). In TFL/TFB, user can obtain quantitative results on traffic flow estimation at link/block using high-resolution satellite imagery. Whereas, URI extension provides urban-rural characteristics related to road system, being considered one of important factors in transportation planning. Lastly, AI extension helps to obtain accessibility index between nodes of road segments and surrounding district areas touched or intersected with the road network system, and it also provides useful information for transportation planning problems. This approach is regarded as one of RS-T (Remote Sensing in Transportation), and it is expected to expand as new application of remotely sensed imagery.

Spatial resolution of land covers from remotely sensed images can be increased using super-resolution mapping techniques for soft-classified land cover proportions. A further development of super-resolution mapping technique is downscaling the original remotely sensed image using super-resolution mapping techniques with a forward model. In this paper, the model for increasing spatial resolution of remote sensing multispectral image is tested with real SPOT 5 imagery at 10m spatial resolution for an area in Bac Giang Province, Vietnam in order to evaluate the feasibility of application of this model to the real imagery. The soft-classified land cover proportions obtained using a fuzzy c-means classification are then used as input data for a Hopfield neural network (HNN) to predict the multispectral images at sub-pixel spatial resolution. The 10m SPOT multispectral image was improved to 5m, 3,3m and 2.5m and compared with SPOT Panchromatic image at 2.5m resolution for assessment.Visually, the resulted image is compared with a SPOT 5 panchromatic image acquired at the same time with the multispectral data. The predicted image is apparently sharper than the original coarse spatial resolution image.

This paper presents a two-stage methodology for anomaly detection from hyperspectral imagery that consists of transform-based feature extraction and selection, and computation of a local spatial auto-correlation statistic. First, principal component transform and 3D wavelet transform are applied to reduce redundant spectral information from hyperspectral imagery. Then feature selection based on global skewness and the portion of highly skewed sub-areas is followed to find optimal features for anomaly detection. Finally, a local indicator of spatial association (LISA) statistic is computed to account for both spectral and spatial information unlike traditional anomaly detection methodology based only on spectral information. An experiment using airborne CASI imagery is carried out to illustrate the applicability of the proposed anomaly detection methodology. From the experiments, anomaly detection based on the LISA statistic linked with the selection of optimal features outperformed both the traditional RX detector which uses only spectral information, and the case using major principal components with large eigen-values. The combination of low- and high-frequency components by 3D wavelet transform showed the best detection capability, compared with the case using optimal features selected from principal components.

Until now, the extraction of information on geographic features and the compilation of maps from satellite imagery has had many limitations because of its lower resolution compared to aerial photos to the recent. However, it is expected that the availability of high resolution satellite imagery whose spatial resolution is about 1m will reduce such limitations. Currently, a compilation of national-wide digital base maps is going on to construct the National Geographic Information Systems in Korea. It will be used for many application field of the social welfare. Therefore, in this study, we suggest that satellite imagery can help it and we have experimented on the possibility of detecting and interpreting geographic data using satellite imagery of various spatial resolutions. The interpretability and detectability of 46 features in 6 categories was experimented with 6 kinds of images of different resolutions. As a subsequent procedure, we have performed the fractal analysis for a quality test of the texture information. Through the fractal analysis, we could show that texture information and probability of discrimination increases as the spatial resolution of the image increases. Based on the results of this experiment, we could suggest the possibility of the renewal and construction of the National-wide Geographic Information Systems database using satellite imagery, as well as of examining appropriate spatial resolutions for objects of interest.

Droughts have been an important factor in disaster management in Korea because she has been grouped into nations of lack of water. Satellite imagery can be applied to droughts monitoring because it can provide periodic data for large area for long time. This study aims to present a process to analyze droughts in large area using satellite imagery. We estimated evapotranspiration in large area using NDVI data acquired from satellite imagery. For satellite imagery, we dealt with MODIS data operated by NASA. The evapotranspiration estimated from satellite imagery was combined with precipitation data and potential evapotranspiration data to estimate water balances. Using water balances we could analyze droughts effectively in our object area. As the result of this study, we could increase the usability of satellite imagery, especially in droughts analysis.

The architectural space is the involuntary place where man lives and experiences, and as a 3 dimensional space through the continuous experience with the concept of 4th dimension of time, it provides the observers with the dramatic space imagery These kinds of space experiences are experienced mentally and perceptively through the physical elements of inner and outer space of the architectural buildings, and this space imagery is created here by all the space composing elemensts of the building. These space experiences are caused by the changing processes of the space characteristics, and the observers perceive the changes in space characteristics. The present building is going with Eco-Architecture. When 2008 sees the building,,Eco-Architecture design which hits appears. There is a possibility of seeing 16 kind types from that place. And From here examined the spatiality which is expressed. These changing processes of inner and outer space, space versus space, and unit space, which are perceived by the observer. It's way to help in architectural design and wishes.
Each class in remotely sensed imagery has different spectral and spatial characteristics. Natural features have relatively smaller spatial changes than spectral changes. Meanwhile, urban area in which buildings, roads, and cars are included is inclined to face more changes of spatial variation than spectral one. This study aims to propose the new urban complexity index (UCI) based on the 3D DWT computation of remotely sensed imageries considering these characteristics. And then we analyze relation between index and land cover map. The 3DWUCI values are related to class and the indices of urban area are greater than natural area. The proposed UCI could be used to express effectively the standard of urban complexity over a wide area.
Classification is considered as one of the processes of extracting attributes from satellite imagery and is one of the usual functions in the commercial satellite image processing software. Accuracy of classification plays a key role in deciding the usage of its results. Many tremendous efforts far the higher accuracy have been done in such fields; training area selection, classification algorithm. Our research is one of these effort in different manners. In this research, we conduct classification using multiple satellite image data and evidential approach. We statistically consider the posterior probabilities and certainty in maximum likelihood classification and methodologically Dempster's orthogonal sums. Unfortunately, accuracy for the whole data sets has not assessed yet, but accuracy assessments in training fields and check fields shows accuracy improvement over 10% in overall accuracy and over 0.1 in kappa index.
Change detection technology, which discovers the change information on the surface of the earth by comparing and analyzing multi-temporal satellite images, can be usefully applied to the various fields, such as environmental inspection, urban planning, forest policy, updating of geographical information and the military usage. In this paper, we introduce a change detection system that can extract and analyze change elements from high-resolution satellite imagery as well as low- or middle-resolution satellite imagery. The developed system provides not only 7 pixelbased methods that can be used to detect change from low- or middle-resolution satellite images but also a float window concept that can be used in manual change detection from highresolution satellite images. This system enables fast access to the very large image, because it is constituted by OGC grid coverage components. Also new change detection algorithms can be easily added into this system if once they are made into grid coverage components.
