  • Improving spectrum utilization efficiency is a fundamental goal of dynamic spectrum access technology. The definition of spectrum holes determines how to detect and exploit them. Current definitions of spectrum holes are ineffective in exploiting spatial-temporal spectrum holes. In this paper, a novel definition of spectrum holes is proposed, in which throughput loss indicates the impact of secondary users on primary users. The definition specifies spectrum holes, unifies the impact of secondary users on primary users and is effective exploiting spatial-temporal spectrum holes. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations show that the new definition proposed in this paper significantly improves the spectrum utilization efficiency.

  • In this study, a spatial spectrum method is proposed to cope with the pilot spoofing attack (PSA) problem by exploiting the of uplink-downlink channel reciprocity in time-division-duplex multiple-input multiple-output systems. First, the spoofing attack in the uplink stage is detected by a threshold derived from the predefined false alarm based on the estimated spatial spectrum. When the PSA occurs, the transmitter (That is Alice) can detect either one or two spatial spectrum peaks. Then, the legitimate user (That is Bob) and Eve are recognized in the downlink stage via the channel reciprocity property based on the difference between the spatial spectra if PSA occurs. This way, the presence of Eve and the direction of arrival of Eve and Bob can be identified at the transmitter end. Because noise is suppressed by a spatial spectrum, the detection performance is reliable even for low signal-noise ratios and a short training length. Consequently, Bob can use beamforming to transmit secure information during the data transmission stage. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme compared with conventional methods.

  • A method for measuring array manifold which is the array antenna response of incident signal is presented. Array manifold measurement procedure by the presented method is explained for UCA(Uniform Circular Array), and spatial spectrum of 300 ㎒ tone signal incident on UCA is estimated by MUSIC algorithm in which spatial spectrum peak is searched with measured array manifold. Spatial spectrum estimation using array manifold measured by the proposed method shows superior performance to calculated array manifold.

  • Wireless network information services allow end systems to discover heterogeneous networks and spectrum available for secondary use at or near their current location, helping them to cope with increasing traffic and finite spectrum resources. We propose a unified architecture that allows end systems to find nearby base stations that are using either licensed, shared or unlicensed spectrum across multiple network operators. Our study evaluates the performance and scalability of spatial databases storing base station coverage area geometries. The measurement results indicate that the current spatial databases perform well even when the number of coverage areas is very large. A single logical spatial database would likely be able to satisfy the query load for a large national cellular network. We also observe that coarse geographic divisions can significantly improve query performance.

  • Performance based seismic design is a very efficient method in evaluating the seismic capacity of building. In this study, the method estimating the performance point of the spatial structures based on capacity spectrum method(CSM) is proposed. And for efficient evaluation for the performance point of the spatial structures, the algorithm to convert spatial structural system to ESDOF system is proposed. Its efficiency is confirmed by comparing with time history analysis of full model. And dynamic behaviors of spatial structures are examined by using this method. At last, evaluation of structural performance according to variation of stiffness after plastic deformation is carried out.

  • A phase delay spectrum model towards the representation of spatial coherence of stochastic wind fields is proposed. Different from the classical coherence functions used in the spectral representation methods, the model is derived from the comprehensive description of coherence of fluctuating wind speeds and from the thorough analysis of physical accounts of random factors affecting phase delay, building up a consistent mapping between the simulated fluctuating wind speeds and the basic random variables. It thus includes complete probabilistic information of spatial stochastic wind fields. This treatment prompts a ready and succinct scheme for the simulation of fluctuating wind speeds, and provides a new perspective to the accurate assessment of dynamic reliability of wind-induced structures. Numerical investigations and comparative studies indicate that the developed model is of rationality and of applicability which matches well with the measured data at spatial points of wind fields, whereby the phase spectra at defined datum mark and objective point are feasibly obtained using the numerical scheme associated with the starting-time of phase evolution. In conjunction with the stochastic Fourier amplitude spectrum that we developed previously, the time history of fluctuating wind speeds at any spatial points of wind fields can be readily simulated.

  • In this paper, the average probability of the symbol error rate (SER) and throughput are studied in the presence of joint spectrum sensing and data transmission in a cognitive relay network, which is in the environment of an optimal power allocation strategy. In this investigation, the main component in calculating the secondary throughput is the inclusion of the spatial false alarms, in addition to the conventional false alarms. It has been shown that there exists an optimal secondary power amplification factor at which the probability of SER has a minimum value, whereas the throughput has a maximum value. We performed a Monte-Carlo simulation to validate the analytical results.

  • Spatial structure does not have columns and walls installed inside, so they have a large space. There are upper structure and substructure supporting them. The response of seismic loads to the upper structure may be increased or decreased due to the effects of the substructure. Therefore, in this study, the seismic response of the upper structure and the floor response spectrum of the substructure were compared and analyzed according to the height of the substructure in the spatial structure where the LRB was installed. As a result, the possibility of amplification of response was confirmed as seismic waves passed though the substructure, which is likely to increase the response of the upper structures.

  • This paper proposes a spatial audio reproduction system based on audio fingerprinting that combines the audio fingerprinting and the spatial audio processing. In the proposed system, a salient audio peak pair fingerprint based on modulation spectrum improves the accuracy of the audio fingerprinting system in real noisy environments and spatial audio information as metadata gives a listener a sensation of being listening to the sound in the space, where the sound is actually recorded.
