  • The real-time traffic data is generated continuous and unbounded stream data type while intelligent transport system (ITS) needs to provide various and high quality services by combining with spatial information. Traditional database techniques in ITS has shortage for processing dynamic real-time stream data and static spatial data simultaneously. In this paper, we design and implement an advanced traffic monitoring system (ATMS) with the integration of existed data stream management system (DSMS) and spatial DBMS using IntraMap. Besides, the developed ATMS can deal with the stream data of DSMS, the trajectory data of relational DBMS, and the spatial data of SDBMS concurrently. The implemented ATMS supports historical and one time query, continuous query and combined query. Application programmer can develop various intelligent services such as moving trajectory tracking, k-nearest neighbor (KNN) query and dynamic intelligent navigation by using components of the ATMS.

  • Recently, the query processing algorithm in spatial network database (SNDB) has attracted many interests. However, there is little research on route-based query processing algorithm in SNDB. Since the moving objects moves only in spatial networks, the route-based algorithm is very useful for LBS and Telematics applications. In this paper, we analyze In-Route Nearest Neighbor (IRNN) query, which is an typical one of route-based queries, and propose a new IRNN query processing algorithm with time constraint. In addition, we show from our performance analysis that our IRNN query processing algorithm with time constraint is better on retrieval performance than the existing IRNN query processing one.

  • Multiple spatial queries are defined as two or more spatial range queries to be executed at the same time. The primary processing of internet-based map services is to simultaneously execute multiple spatial queries. To improve the throughput of multiple queries, the time of disk I/O in processing spatial queries significantly should be reduced. The declustering scheme of a spatial dataset of the MIMD architecture cannot decrease the disk I/O time because of random seeks for processing multiple queries. This thesis presents query scheduling strategies to ease the problem of inter-query random seeks. Query scheduling is achieved by dynamically re-ordering the priority of the queued spatial queries. The re-ordering of multiple queries is based on the inter-query spatial relationship and the latency of query processing. The performance test shows that the time of multiple query processing with query scheduling can be significantly reduced by easing inter-query random seeks as a consequence of enhanced hit ratio of disk cache.

  • Range query is one of the most important operations for spatial objects, it retrieves all spatial objects that overlap a given query region in multi-dimensional space. The DOT(DOuble Transformation) is known as an efficient indexing methods, it transforms the MBR of a spatial object into a single numeric value using a space filling curve, and stores the value in a $B^+$-tree. The DOT index is possible to be employed as a primary index for spatial objects. However, the range query processing based on the DOT index requires much overhead for spatial transformations to get the query region in the final space. Also, the detailed range query processing method for 2-dimensional spatial objects has not been studied yet in this paper, we propose an efficient multi-dimensional range query processing technique based on the DOT index. The proposed technique exploits the regularities in the moving patterns of space filling curves to divide a query region into a set of maximal sub-legions within which space filling curves traverse without interruption. Such division reduces the number of spatial transformations required to perform the range query and thus improves the performance of range query processing. A visual simulator is developed to show the evaluation method and the performance of our technique.

  • Recently, to support LBS(location-based services) and telematics applications efficiently, there have been many researches which consider the spatial network instead of Euclidean space. However, existing range query and k-nearest neighbor query algorithms show a linear decrease in performance as the value of radius and k is increased. In this paper, to increase the performance of query processing algorithm, we propose materialization-based range and k-nearest neighbor algorithms. In addition, we make the performance comparison to show the proposed algorithm achieves better retrieval performance than the existing algorithm.

  • Recently, many studies on query processing algorithms has been done for spatial networks, such as roads and railways, instead of Euclidean spaces, in order to efficiently support LBS(location-based service) and Telematics applications. However, both a closest pairs query and an e-distance join query require a very high cost in query processing because they can be answered by processing a set of POIs, instead of a single POI. Nevertheless, the query processing cost for closest pairs and e-distance join queries is rapidly increased as the number of k (or the length of radius) is increased. Therefore, we propose both a closest pairs query processing algorithm and an e-distance join query processing algorithm using a POI-based materialization technique so that we can process closest pairs and e-distance join queries in an efficient way. In addition, we show the retrieval efficiency of the proposed algorithms by making a performance comparison of the conventional algorithms.

  • As technologies related to sensor network are currently emerging and the use of GeoSensor is increasing along with the development of IoT technology, spatial query processing systems to efficiently process spatial sensor data are being actively studied. However, existing spatial query processing systems do not support a spatial-temporal data type and a spatial-temporal operator for processing spatial-temporal sensor data. Therefore, they are inadequate for processing spatial-temporal sensor data like GeoSensor. Accordingly, this paper developed a spatial-temporal query processing system, for efficient spatial-temporal query processing of spatial-temporal sensor data in a sensor network. Lastly, this paper verified the utility of System through a scenario, and proved that this system's performance is better than existing systems through performance assessment of performance time and memory usage.

  • Some previous works for nearest neighbor (NN) query processing technique can treat a case that query/data are both moving objects. However, they cannot find exact result owing to vagueness of criterion. In order to escape their limitations and get exact result, we propose new NN query techniques, exact CTNN (continuous trajectory NN) query, approximate CTNN query, and dynamic CTNN query. These are all superior to pervious works, by reducing of number of calculation, considering of trajectory information, and using of continuous query concept. Using these techniques, we can solve any situations and types of NN query in location-aware environment.

  • In this paper, we deal with a method of efficiently processing continuous queries in a data stream environment. We classify previous query processing methods into two dual categories - data-initiative and query-initiative - depending on whether query processing is initiated by selecting a data element or a query. This classification stems from the fact that data and queries have been treated asymmetrically. For processing continuous queries, only data-initiative methods have traditionally been employed, and thus, the performance gain that could be obtained by query-initiative methods has been overlooked. To solve this problem, we focus on an observation that data and queries can be treated symmetrically. In this paper, we propose the duality model of data and queries and, based on this model, present a new viewpoint of transforming the continuous query processing problem to a multi-dimensional spatial join problem. We also present a continuous query processing algorithm based on spatial join, named Spatial Join CQ. Spatial Join CQ processes continuous queries by finding the pairs of overlapping regions from a set of data elements and a set of queries defined as regions in the multi-dimensional space. The algorithm achieves the effects of both of the two dual methods by using the spatial join, which is a symmetric operation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms earlier methods by up to 36 times for simple selection continuous queries and by up to 7 times for sliding window join continuous queries.

  • The spationtemporal databases support a historical informations as well as spatial managements for various kinds of objects in the real world, and can be efficiently used in many applications such as geographic information system, urban plan system, car navigation system. However it is difficult to represent efficiently historical operations with conventional database query language for spatial objects. In terms of cost for query processing, it also degenerates performance of query processing because of syntactic limitations which is innate in conventional query representation. So in this paper, we introduce a new query language, entitled as STQL, which has been extended on the basis of the most popular relational database query language SQL. And we implement as well as evaluate a spationtemporal query processing system that get a query written by STQL and then process it in a main memory.
