This study examined the feasibility of using an automatic lens distortion correction (ALDC) camera as the payload for a photogrammetric unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system. First, lens distortion for the interior orientation (IO) parameters was estimated. Although previous studies have largely ignored decentering distortion, this study revealed that more than 50% of the distortion of the ALDC camera was caused by decentering distortion. Second, we compared the accuracy of bundle adjustment for camera calibration using three image types: raw imagery without the ALDC option; imagery corrected using lens profiles; and imagery with the ALDC option. The results of image triangulation, the digital terrain model (DTM), and the orthoimage using the IO parameters for the ALDC camera were similar to or slightly better than the results using self-calibration. These results confirm that the ALDC camera can be used in a photogrammetric UAV system using only self-calibration.

In remote sensing, it has been a difficult task to obtain a multispectral image with high spatial resolution because of the technical limitation of satellite sensors. In order to solve these problems, various pansharpening algorithms have been tried and proposed. However, most pansharpened images created by various approaches tend to distort the spectral characteristics of the original multispectral image or decrease the visual sharpness of the panchromatic image. To minimize the spectral distortion of pansharpened image while preserving spatial information of the panchromatic image, a hybrid pansharpening algorithm based on the spatial correlation was proposed. In this paper, we analyzed the spatial and spectral distortion of the hybrid pansharpened images generated by the various spatial correlation methods. In the experiments, we proved that the method by using Laplacian filtering was more efficient than other high frequency extraction algorithms in the viewpoint of spectral distortion and spatial sharpness.
The mainly used technique to rectify satellite images with distortion is to develop a mathematical relationship between the pixel coordinates on the image and the corresponding points on the ground. By defining the relationship between two coordinate systems, a polynomial model is designed and various linear transformations are used. These GCP based geometric correction has performed overall plane to plane mapping. In the overall plane mapping, overall structure of a scene is considered, but local variation is discarded. The highly variant height of region is resampled with distortion in the rectified image. To solve this problem this paper proposed the TIN-based rectification on a satellite image. The TIN based rectification is good to correct local distortion, but insufficient to reflect overall structure of one scene. So, this paper shows the experimental result and the analysis of each rectification model. It also describes the relationship GCP distribution and rectification model. We can choose a geometric correction model as the structural characteristic of a satellite image and the acquired GCP distribution.

Owing to its fast computing capability for fusing images, the FIHS(Fast Intensity Hue Saturation) fusion is widely used for fusion purposes. However, the FIHS fusion also distorts color in the same way such as the IHS(Intensity Hue Saturation) fusion technique. In this paper, a FIHS fusion technique(FIHS-BR) which reduces color distortion by using the ratio of each spectral band and an adaptive FIHS fusion(FIHS-SABR) using spatial information and the ratio of each spectral band are proposed. The proposed FIHS-BR fusion reduces color distortion by adding different spatial detail improvement values for each spectral band. The spatial detail improvement values are derived from the ratio of spectral band. And the proposed FIHS-SABR fusion reduces more color distortion by readjusting the spatial detail improvement values for each spectral band according to the ratio of the spectral bands. The spatial detail improvement values are derived adaptively from the characteristics of spatial information of the local image. To evaluate the performance of the proposed FIHS-BR fusion and FIHS-SABR fusion, a computer simulation is performed for IKONOS remote sensing image. Results from the experiments show that the proposed methods have less color distortion for the forest regions which reveal severe color distortion in the traditional FIHS fusion. From the evaluation results of the characteristics of spectral information for fused image, we show that the proposed methods have best results.
In the binaural synthesis environments, wide varieties of the head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) that have measured with a various direction would be desirable to obtain the accurate and various spatial sound images. To reduce the size' of HRTFs, interpolation has been often employed, where the HRTF for any direction is obtained by a limited number of the representative HRTFs. In this paper, we study on the distortion measures for interpolation, which has an important role in interpolation. With lhe various objective distortion metrics, the differences between the interpolated and the measured HRTFs were computed. These were then compared and analyzed with the results from the listening tests. From the results, the objective distortion measures were selected, that reflected the perceptual differences in spatial sound image. This measure was employed in a practical interpolation technique. We applied the proposed method to four kinds of an HRTF set, measured from three human heads and one mannequin. As a result, the Mel-frequency cepstral distortion was shown to be a good predictor for the differences in spatial sound location, when three HRTF measured from human, and the time-domain signal to distortion ratio revealed good prediction results for the entire four HRTF sets.

Color image quantization is a process of selecting a set of colors to display an image with some representative colors without noticeable perceived difference. It is very important in many applications to display a true color image in a low cost color monitor or printer. the basic problem is how to display 224 colors with 256 or less colors, called color palette. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to design the 256 or less size color palette by using spatial maskin geffect of HVS and subjective distortion measure weighted by color palette by using spatial masking effect of HVS and subjective distortion measure weighted by color activity in 4*4 local region in any color image. The proposed algorithm consists of octal prequantization and subdivision quantization processing step using the distortion measure and modified Otsu's between class variance maximization method. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has higher visual quality and needs less consuming time than conventional algorithms.
Both timbral features and spatial features are important in the assessment of multichannel audio coding systems. The prediction model, extending the ITU-R Rec. BS. 1387-1 to multichannel audio coding systems, with the use of spatial features such as ITDDist (Interaural Time Difference Distortion), ILDDist (Interaural Level Difference Distortion), and IACCDist (InterAural Cross-correlation Coefficient Distortion) was proposed by Choi et al. In that model, ITDDistswere only computed for low frequency bands (below 1500Hz), and ILDDists were computed only for high frequency bands (over 2500Hz) according to classical duplex theory. However, in the high frequency range, information in temporal envelope is also important in spatial perception, especially in sound localization. A new model to compute the ITD distortions of temporal envelopes in high frequency components is introduced in this paper to investigate the role of such ITD on spatial perception quantitatively. The computed ITD distortions of temporal envelopes in high frequency components were highly correlated with perceived sound quality of multichannel audio sounds.

High-spatial resolution remote sensing satellites (IKONOS-2, QuickBird and KOMPSAT-2) have provided low-spatial resolution multispectral images and high-spatial resolution panchromatic images. Image fusion or Pan-sharpening is a very important in that it aims at using a satellite image with various applications such as visualization and feature extraction through combining images that have a different spectral and spatial resolution. Many image fusion algorithms are proposed, most methods could not preserve the spectral information of original multispectral image after image fusion. In order to solve this problem, modified induction technique which reduce the spectral distortion of fused image is developed. The spectral distortion is adjusted by the comparison between the spatially degraded pan-sharpened image and original multispectral image and our algorithm is evaluated by QuickBird satellite imagery. In the experiment, pan-sharpened image by various methods can reduce spectral distortion when our algorithm is applied to the fused images.
In this paper, We propose a titrate allocation method in which the bitrates of the videos for the lower layer are restricted by constant titrate, but those of the higher layer are assigned to have the uniform picture quality, for the multiplexing system of multiple spatial scalable video sources. We first find an approximated model of distortion-bitrate for the MPEG-2 spatial scalable video coding system, then we obtain the bitrate for each source to have constant distortion ratio among the sources by using the approximated model parameters for real-time simple implementation. It is shown by simulation that the proposed bandwidth allocation can keep almost constant picture Quality ratio among the sources of higher layer.
This paper proposes a scheme to reduce spectral distortion in PAN-sharpening which produces a MultiSpectral image (MS) with the higher resolution of PANchromatic image (PAN). The spectral distortion results from reconstructing spatial details of PAN image in the MS image. The proposed method employs Spectral Adjustment and Anisotropic Diffusion to make a reduction of the distortion. The spectral adjustment makes the PAN-sharpened image agree with the original MS image, but causes block distortion because the spectral response of a pixel in the lower resolution is assumed to be equal to the average response of the pixels belonging to the corresponding area in the higher resolution at a same wavelength. The block distortion is corrected by the anisotropic diffusion which uses a conduct coefficient estimating from a local computation of PAN image. It results in yielding a PAN-sharpened image with the spatial structure of PAN image. GSA is one of PAN-sharpening techniques which are efficient in computation as well as good in quantitative quality evaluation. This study suggests the GSA as a preliminary PAN-sharpening method. Two data sets were used in the experiment to evaluate the proposed scheme. One is a Dubaisat-2 image of $1024{\times}1024$ observed at Los Angeles area, USA on February, 2014, the other is an IKONOS of $2048{\times}2048$ observed at Anyang, Korea on March, 2002. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme yields the PAN-sharpened images which have much less spectral distortion and better quantitative quality evaluation.
