  • The fractional anisotropy value of the brain white matter region was analyzed by Tract-Based Spatial Statics(TBSS) method after acquiring the diffusion tensor image to identify the presence or absence of brain white matter damage to smoking in male. As a result, smokers showed lower fractional anisotropy than non-smokers in all areas but fractional anisotropy values were not statistically significant. the fractional anisotropy value, on the other hand, was statistically significant only for the right choroid plexus. In other words smoking, although, does not significantly affect the micro structural changes of brain white matter, it affects the choroid plexus area.

  • In external chemical vapor deposition processes including VAD and OVD the distribution of flame-synthesized silica particles is determined by heat and mass transfer limitations to particle formation. Combustion gas flow velocities are such that the particle diffusion time scale is longer than that of gas flow convection in the zone of particle formation. The consequence of these effects is that the particles formed tend to remain along straight smooth flow stream lines. Silica particles are formed due to oxidation and hydrolysis. In the hydrolysis, the particles are formed in diffuse bands and particle formation thus requires the diffusion of SiCl$\_$4/ toward CH$\_$4//O$\_$2/ combustion zone to react with H$\_$2/O diffusing away from these same zones on the torch face. The conversion kinetics of hydrolysis is fast compared to diffusion and the rate of conversion is thus diffusion-limited. In the language of combustion, the hydrolysis occurs as a Burke-Schumann process. In selected conditions, reaction zone shape and temperature distributions predicted by the Burke-Schumann analysis are introduced and compared with experimental data available. The calculated centerline temperatures inside the reaction zone agree well with the data, but the calculated values outside the reaction zone are a little higher than the data since the analysis does not consider diffusion in the axial direction and mixing of the combustion products with ambient air. The temperatures along the radial direction agree with the data near the centerline, but gradually diverge from the data as the distance is away from the centerline. This is caused by the convection in the radial direction, which is not considered in the analysis. Spatial distribution of silica particles are affected by convection and diffusion, resulting in a Gaussian form in the radial direction.

  • Purpose : To evaluate white matter abnormalities on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in patients with mild Alzheimer disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), using tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) and voxel-based morphometry (VBM). Materials and Methods: DTI was performed in 21 patients with mild AD, in 13 with MCI and in 16 old healthy subjects. A fractional anisotropy (FA) map was generated for each participant and processed for voxel-based comparisons among the three groups using TBSS. For comparison, DTI data was processed using the VBM method, also. Results: TBSS showed that FA was significantly lower in the AD than in the old healthy group in the bilateral anterior and right posterior corona radiata, the posterior thalamic radiation, the right superior longitudinal fasciculus, the body of the corpus callosum, and the right precuneus gyrus. VBM identified additional areas of reduced FA, including both uncinates, the left parahippocampal white matter, and the right cingulum. There were no significant differences in FA between the AD and MCI groups, or between the MCI and old healthy groups. Conclusion: TBSS showed multifocal abnormalities in white matter integrity in patients with AD compared with old healthy group. VBM could detect more white matter lesions than TBSS, but with increased artifacts.

  • A demand on the spatial data management has been rapidly increased with the introduction and diffusion process of ITS, Telematics, and Wireless Sensor Network. And many different users use the digital map that offers various thematic spatial data. Spatial data for digital map can be managed by tile-based and feature-based data. The existing tile-based digital map management systems have difficult problems such as data construction, history management, and update data based on a spatial object. In order to solve these problems, we proposed the data model for feature-based digital map management system for representation of feature-based seamless map, history management, real-time update of spatial data, and analyzed the validity and utility of the proposed model.

  • Modernism is understood as a process of differentiation. Postmodernism or postmodernity, by contrast, involves de-differentiation. There is a breakdown in the distinctiveness of each of spheres of social activities. It is important to explain an examination of the relationships between the de-differentiation and a wide variety of contemporary tourism, expecially postmodern tourism. Also, de-differentiation between the tourism and the social spheres lead to the spatial reflection. Aim of this paper is to examine the processes of de-differentiation between the tourism and the social spheres, which comes out spatially in Jeju island. Especially, location of destinations is concentrated on the coastline in the period of modem tourism. On the contrary, the postmodern tourism shows that the location of destinations are wide spread diffusion its vertically and horizontally. It means that there are to appear a breakdown of distinctiveness between the conventional tourism destinations and the regional person's space.

  • The purpose of this study is to ascertain how the level of resolution of land cover data affects on the local distribution and diffusion of fine dust. the CALPUFF model, which considers the spatio-temporal terrain conditions and changes in weather conditions, was used to estimate PM10 concentration in the Pyeongchon, Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. Three different resolutions of land cover data including 20 m, 50 m, and 100 m were compared as the input of the modeling. Using higher resolution land cover data (20 m), the wind speed of the simulated region was the largest and the PM10 concentration was the lowest. Through this study, we confirm that the resolution level of land-use/cover data can affect the local distribution and diffusion of fine dust, which can be detected by CALPUFF. Therefore, when using CALPUFF to simulate fine dust in the future, it can be suggested that checking the impact on spatial resolution according to the form of land cover in advance and proceeding with the simulation can achieve mote accurate results.

  • We investigate the flame behavior and spatial distribution of OH, PAHs and soot in a confined buoyant diffusion flame with decrease of the coflowing air flow rate. Direct photographs and Schlieren images represent that flame is Ally occupied by blue flame and becomes unstable, which is partially detached to the fuel nozzle tip in a near extinction flame under extremely reduced oxidizer condition. Laser induced fluorescence profiles clearly shows that OH is still generated in near-extinction flame, although intensity becomes weak with decreasing air flow rate. But soot scattering image cannot be seen any more in an oxidizer deficient ambience and simultaneously the PAHs are widely distributed downstream. These results are due to that a decrease of oxygen concentration in the combustion chamber leads to a temperature drop of flame, as a consequence, to a delay in soot growth and to a expanding of the PAHs, as soot precursors.

  • The measurements of monochromatic line-of-sight flame emission and light transmission in the same path having small spatial resolution were performed in an axisymmetric laminar propane $C_{3}H_{8}$ diffusion flame. The light wavelengthes of 632 nm, 800nm, 900nm were used. From these measurements, local point soot radiances (by Kirchhoff's law) and absorption coefficients were reconstructed by tomography. Thus local point soot temperatures and concentrations were obtained. The reconstructed soot temperatures and concentrations of local points have no differences between the case of visible range (632 nm) and the case of infrared range (800 nm and 900 nm). In these ranges, the scattering coefficient is much lower than the absorption coefficient. Soot mean temperature over the path also matches well with local soot temperature in outer region of the flame. Temperature measurement by thermocouple with different bead diameters $(222{\mu}m and 308{\mu}m)$ was carried in the same flame. Rapid insertion technique was used and radiation effect was considered. Radiation correction in the sooting region was carried out and the corrected result was in good agreement with the local soot temperature.

  • In this study, the evaluation method of diffusion characteristics of Suspended Soli&SS) and the generation limit(source and thick) are investigated, which is significantly affecting on marine examined by construction works such as dredging and reclamation. Dispersion characteristics of SS is examined by hydraulic tests and numerical works in consideration with the Pusan Port. Hydraulic model test was performed in 2-D wave flume to find the limit wave conditon of re-suspension of solid as well as the time dependent characteristics of settlement The results obtainded in the study are as follows; 1) The quantituative evaluation af SS is the basic parameter of marine environmental impact assessment in related with the port development The SS increases as the water content of sea bed solid increases and the density decreases. 2) The sea bed solid in Sinsundai area, Pusan Port has the water content range of 83~157% 3) The ratio of suspension velocity against settlement velocity is about 0.25 and SS concentration converges as the wave heigh. 4) The SS increases 2 time when time step increases 3 time(10 sec to 30 sec) in numerical simulation It means that the effect of the time step should be checked in detail to stable. The diffusion The diffusion coefficient are Affiected senstively in the dispersion process while sea ved friction coefficinet have not strong relation in the simulated area

  • A hygroscopic rotor comprises many microchannels with high adsorption characteristics. In this study, the iterative adsorption/desorption processes that were affected by the humid air flow in a channel were numerically simulated. In consideration of the accuracy and computational costs, in the desiccant layer, only surface diffusion was considered in this simulation. The results were compared with the previous numerical results and found to show good agreement. By conjugating the heat and mass transfer between the desiccant and the flow layers, temporal and spatial changes in the vapor mass fraction, adsorbed liquid water mass fraction, and temperature in the channel were presented.
