A Study on the Architectural Characteristics and Meaning of Wolfsburg Cultural Center (볼프스부르크 문화센터의 건축 특성과 의미에 관한 연구)

  • In Alvar Aalto's designs, important factors of complex building designs including Wolfsburg cultural center are that they insinuate how to develop each architectural type and how to combine them in a building. The humane and physical background studies, and wholistic and systematic approaches are adopted to fulfill research purposes. Comparison with other buildings are necessary to reveal true meaning of this building. The result of analysis show characteristics of Wolfsburg cultural center as follows; hybrid composition of mass and elevation, spatial effect using level difference and light, massing variation of roof, and creating space for various activities. Wolfsburg cultural center designed in late 1950s has greatly affected Aalto's later works through various architectural experiments because it is the first cultural complex project that combined various architectural types. Especially library in the cultural center has shown transitional characteristics to famous fan-type libraries of 1960s while maintained features about Viipuri library. Wolfsburg cultural center act as an another type which present new principles of clustering, massing and exterior design. Its true meaning lies in forming a humanizing place beyond spatial configuration.

On the Distribution of Zooplankton in the Southeastern Barents Sea during July 2002

  • The spatial distribution and composition of the mesozooplankton community in the southeastern Barents Sea were observed at 17 stations, from 12 to 28 July 2002. Six taxa of zooplankton were found, including tintinnids, copepods, cumaceans, appendicularians, polychaetes, and barnacle larvae. Copepods were dominant, comprising 74% of the community. The copepod species Limnocalanus grimaldii, Pseudocalanus acuspes, Calanus glacialis, Calanus finmarchicus, and Microsetella norvegica, and the cumacean species Diastylis rathkei and Campylaspis rubicunda were identified. The overall mean abundance of the zooplankton was 72 indiv.l0 $\mu \textrm m^{-3}$ in the study area, ranging from 4 to 197 indiv.l0$\mu \textrm m^{-3}$. Zooplankton was more abundant at the oceanic than the coastal stations. The highest biomass measured was 97.4mg $\mu \textrm m^{-3}$, the mean biomass was 36.9 mg 10$\mu \textrm m^{-3}$, 93% of which was copepods. Pseudocalanus acuspes, C. glacialis, and C. finmarchicus predominated, accounting for 61% of abundance and 86% of biomass. Spatial distributions of the zooplankton community in the study area depended on the variations in water temperature and salinity, which were influenced by freshwater runoff from the continent.

The Planning Characteristics Analyzed by Spatial Composition of Domestic Share House

  • Purpose: Recently, a sudden increase in one household in Korea has become an important social problem. Changes in lifestyles such as population change, marriage, childbirth, and divorce are becoming increasing factors for single-family households. As a result of these changes, the government has implemented policies for one accredited state. However, the policy for one domestic applicant is insufficient compared to other countries. As a measure to cope with the increase in the number of applicants, Shared House has emerged and research on Shared House is necessary. Method: First, we analyze the overall characteristics of domestic share house. And it does a spatial analysis of domestic share house. Especially, it analyzes the relationship between private space and public space. Finally, the plan characteristics are derived based on the analysis results. Result: The results are as follows. First, the type of share house is classified according to the combination of the arrangement of private space and the public space. Second, the larger the scale, the more vertical arrangement than horizontal arrangement. Finally, the character of the share house changes according to the characteristics of the resident.

  • The object of this paper is to evaluate on constructability of modular steel frame with the hollow structural steel section to LEB C-shape. A modular building is built with factory-manufacture and site-construction. The advantage of a Modular building presents that enhanced building quality, shortened construction period and easy at an expansion and enlargement for buildings but also has demerits such as size restriction of the modular units according to the Road Traffic Law and Inflexibility of the unit composition. So in this study we use light-weighted structure members with bolted joint for easy Knock-down and traffic, also we evaluated the constructability of this bolted joints type modular buildings.

Characteristics and a Variation of Profile Shape in Scissors Deployable Structure (시저스 전개형 구조의 형상변화와 구조특성)

  • In scissors deployable structure which could be easily removed by folding it, a method of curvature variation in the profile and the structural characteristics were examined. At first, the relation between the profile curvature and a eccentricity of joint in scissors members is presented by a formula and a graph. And then, the structural characters of scissors members with the curvature variation are presented by analysing a several models based on this relation. Also, a real modeling study is achieved in accordance with this composition method and the possibilities to be developed with the expected profile shape was examined.

  • Purpose : As the necessity of reinforcement of infections management in medical facilities after MERS increased, Ministry of Health and Welfare promulgated the enforcement regulations of medical law on February 3, 2017. Its main objective is to improve patients' safety and medical-care quality through the establishment of isolation facilities from infectious diseases and the set-up of standards for In-patient and ICU facilities. The purpose of this study is necessarily to propose a standardized spatial composition model for ward modules by analyzing changing environments of in-patient facilities according to the strengthened medical law. Method: Theoretical studies will be undergone of Evidence-based Designs to improve patients' safety, medical quality, and domestic/overseas in-patient room guidelines. With reference to the status of 24 general hospitals over 500 beds, the spatial compositions of the in-patient rooms and the types of multi/single bed room modules will be analyzed. The directions of future in-patient room module changes through the study of the minimum ward module types and various ward types will be presented. Result: This paper will hopefully provide guidelines for hospitalization rooms that can be applied to the revised rules of medical law enforcement and provide a basis for a comprehensive study of patients' safety and efficient infection control as well.

  • This study examines the issue of space management of university facilities by an assessment model as part of efforts to deal with the crisis of universities. To this end, the study addressed efficiency issue and structural problems using assessment model factors, with the aim of figuring out legitimacy and allocating methods for this purpose. Selected model factors included utilization ratio, residual ratio, vacancy ratio, and occupancy ratio, while for the latter, we investigated into the present situations of space use, focusing on construction, design, and living dimensions. As a result, the study suggested that in the future universities will resort to extension and rebuilding or new building for their facilities. To ensure space efficiency without conflict, we should follow legitimacy of space allocation and composition, building quality university facilities, creating quality environment, preventing tuition from rising or Improving welfare to keep pace with the new era.

  • The structure systems with non-rigid member were classified by the composition type of line and surface members. As a result of the classification, there are 1-way cable structure, cable net and radial cable net structure in the line member system. And there are pneumatic structure and suspension membrane structure in surface member system. In addition, when the line and surface members are composed together, there is the hybrid membrane system which are divided into hanging type and supported type. In this paper, the Korean terms of structure systems with non-rigid member are recommended through this classification.

The Study on the Korean Plastic Consciousness of the Contemporary Interior Space in Korea (한국의 현대 실내공간에 나타난 한국적 조형의식에 관한 연구)

  • The three basic elements of human life -clothing, food and shelter- had been evolved through different periods and cultural realms, as their spatial applications show distinct characteristics that are manifested through sensibilities only inherent to its specific culture. Especially in the interior spaces, possibilities to approach them in three-dimensional aspects allow formal characteristics to be expressed that are distinct to the country. Formal sensibilities embedded in interior space In Korea also follows such pattern, developed through various contemporary interpretations of Korean traditional formal sensibilities, including harmony with nature, simplicity, lightness, real and fake, and principle of harmony are being redefined by spatially expressed in contemporary language. That is, traditional formal sensibilitiesare filtered through various application methods such as composition, negotiation and modification, accommodating spatial manifestations to be not simply preserved nor replicated, but rather reconstructed through metaphor, symbol, abstraction and contrast. From this perspective, the Korean traditional formal sensibilitiesis not a notion fixed in the past, but a distinct perspectives evolving throughout periods of time that are constantly reconsidered and reinterpreted in our interior space. By examining Korean sensibilities manifested in interior space in the both diachronic aspects of tradition vs. contemporary, as well as synchronic aspects among various disciplines simultaneously, we would be able to generate a linkage to the dichotomous categories of tradition and contemporary.

A Study on the Spatial Configuration of Internal Functions of Public Area in City Hotels - Focusing on middle size first-class hotels in Korea and Japan - (도시 호텔 공용부문에 나타난 내부기능구성형식에 관한 연구 - 한국과 일본의 중규모 특급호텔을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is focused on defining the types of spatial configuration of internal functions in city hotels by researching and analyzing city hotels in Korea and Japan. The scope of this study is limited to the period of early 1980's to the end of 1990's and 18 city hotels in Korea and Japan are selected as subject. Researching existing records and analyzing plans, surveys are used as the method of the study. The result of this study is as follow. First, block composition of floor plans that is used for hotel construction could be divided into three types (immanent type-6hotels, combined type-7hotels, adjacent type-4hotels). Second, the result of analysis about the internal functions and structural types of public area in city hotels is as follow. More Korean city hotels are taking concourse type (Korea 77.8%, Japan 55.6%) and hall type (Korea 22.2%, Japan 11.1%) than Japanese city hotels. However, the mixed type (concourse type +hall type) is only used in Japan (Korea 0%, Japan 33.3%). Third, as the result of the comparison of the size of public area between Korea and Japan, Korean hotels (36.70%) have larger space than Japanese hotels only in the service area. public (Korea 33.98% < Japan 34.71%), business (Korea 27.68% Japan 31.41%)and empty (Korea 1.64% < Japan 6.13%) area is taking larger space in Japanese city hotels than Korean.
