Human activities are often affected by weather conditions. Automatic weather recognition is meaningful to traffic alerting, driving assistance, and intelligent traffic. With the boost of deep learning and AI, deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) are utilized to identify weather situations. In this paper, a three-channel convolutional neural network (3C-CNN) model is proposed on the basis of ResNet50.The model extracts global weather features from the whole image through the ResNet50 branch, and extracts the sky and ground features from the top and bottom regions by two CNN5 branches. Then the global features and the local features are merged by the Concat function. Finally, the weather image is classified by Softmax classifier and the identification result is output. In addition, a medium-scale dataset containing 6,185 outdoor weather images named WeatherDataset-6 is established. 3C-CNN is used to train and test both on the Two-class Weather Images and WeatherDataset-6. The experimental results show that 3C-CNN achieves best on both datasets, with the average recognition accuracy up to 94.35% and 95.81% respectively, which is superior to other classic convolutional neural networks such as AlexNet, VGG16, and ResNet50. It is prospected that our method can also work well for images taken at night with further improvement.

This paper presents an efficient packet loss resilient scheme for real-time video transmission over the Internet. By analyzing the temporal and spatial dependencies in inter- and intra-frames, we assign forward error correction codes (FEC) across video packets for minimizing the effect of error concealment and error propagation from packet loss. To achieve optimal allocation of FEC codes, we formulate the effect of packet loss on video quality degradation as packet distortion model. Then we propose an unequal FEC assignment scheme with low complexity based on packet correction rate, which uses the packet distortion model and includes channel status information. Simulation results show that the proposed FEC assignment scheme gives substantial improvement for the received video quality in packet lossy networks. Furthermore the proposed scheme achieves relatively smaller degradation of video quality with higher packet loss rates.
Newly constructed, high-rise dense building areas by urban development can cause changes in local wind fields. Wind fields were analyzed to assess the impact on the local meteorology due to the land use changes during the urban redevelopment called "Eunpyeong new town" in north-western Seoul using CFD_NIMR_SNU (Computational Fluid Dynamics, National Institute of Meteorological Research, Seoul National University) model. Initial value of wind speed and direction use analysis value of AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data during 5 years. In the case of the pre-construction with low rise built-up area, it was simulated that the spatial distribution of horizontal wind fields depends on the topography and wind direction of initial inflow. But, in the case of the post-construction with high rise built-up area, it was analyzed that the wind field was affected by high rise buildings as well as terrain. High-rise buildings can generate new circulations among buildings. In addition, small size vortexes were newly generated by terrain and high rise buildings after the construction. As high-rise buildings act as a barrier, we found that the horizontal wind flow was separated and wind speed was reduced behind the buildings. CFD_NIMR_SNU was able to analyze the impact of high-rise buildings during the urban development. With the support of high power computing, it will be more common to utilize sophisticated numerical analysis models such as CFD_NIMR_SNU in evaluating the impact of urban development on wind flow or channel.

In this paper, we consider a measurement allocation problem for gathering reliable data from a spatially correlated sensor field. We allocate the probability of each sensor's being measured considering its marginal contribution in entire data gathering; higher measurement probability is given to a sensor that gives higher reilable data. First we establish a correlation model considering limit in each sensor's transmission power, noise in the process of measurement and transmission, and attenutations in wireless channel. Then we evaluate the reliability of gathered data by estimating distortion error in sink node. We model the measurement allocation problem in spatially correlated sensor field into a cooperative game, and quantifiy each sensor's marginal contribution using Shapley Value. Then, the probability of each sensor's being measured is given in proportion to the Shapley Value.
In order to analyze movement of soil moisture, Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR) with multiplex system has been installed at the Bumreunsa hillslope of Sulmachun Watershed to configure spatial-temporal variation pattern considering seasonal characteristic. An intensive surveying was performed to build a refined digital elevation model(DEM) and flow determination algorithms with inverse surveying have been applied to establish an efficient soil moisture monitoring system. Soil moisture data were collected through an intensive and long term monitoring 380 hrs in November of 2003 and 1037 hrs in May and June of 2004. Soil moisture data shows corresponding variation characteristics of soil moisture on the up slope, buffer, main channel zones of the hillslope which were classified from terrain analysis. Measured soil moisture data were discussed in conjunction with flow characteristic through terrain analysis. Regardless season, immediate responses of soil moisture about rainfall looks similar but recession and recharge are primary characteristics of intermediate soil moisture variation for spring to summer and fall to winter season, respectively.

River corridors facilitate dispersal and movement and prevent local extinction of species. As a result of stream restoration projects, which include installation of waterfront and flood control structures, the number of animals, which rely on river corridor, is decreasing. For the study, factors affecting fish assembly were extracted by a species distribution model with the fish data collected from the Seom River in Hoengseong County and City of Wonju, Ganwon Province, Korea between March to October 2013. The riparian connectivity was assessed using species richness and rarity. According to result of the field survey, there were 38 species and 7,061 individuals for fish. The analysis suggests the following. Firstly, factors affecting fish richness in species distribution model results are shown to be velocity, riffle, riparian width, and water width. The accuracy of the model proves to be suitable with the correlation coefficient of 0.83 and MAPE of 19.2%. Secondly, the low rarity area is shown to be straight streams in Jeon river near to Hongseong County and the high rarity area to be streams with large width, existing alluvial area at channel junction between Jeon river and Seom river. Thirdly, according to connectivity results, areas where weirs are installed or riparian buffer area is removed showed low connectivity. The areas where farmland near riparian and forest areas showed high connectivity. The results of this study can be utilized to improve current facilities and enhance connectivity as a restoration guide.
Surface insolation is one of the major indicators for climate research over the Earth system. For the climate research, long-term data and wide range of spatial coverage from the data observed by two or more of satellites of the same orbit are needed. It is important to improve the continuity and consistency of the derived products, such as surface insolation, from different satellites. In this study, surface insolations based on Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-9) and Multi-functional Transport Satellites (MTSAT-1R) were compared during overlap period using physical model of insolation to find ways to improve the consistency and continuity between two satellites through comparison of each channel data and ground observation data. The thermal infrared brightness temperature of two satellites show a relatively good agreement between two satellites : rootmean square error (RMSE)=5.595 Kelvin; Bias=2.065 Kelvin. Whereas, visible channels shown a quite different values, but it distributed similar tendency. And the surface insolations from two satellites are different from the ground observation data. To improve the quality of retrieved insolations, we have reproduced surface insolation of each satellite through adjustment of the Cloud Factor, and the Cloud Factor for GOES-9 satellite is modified based on the analysis result of difference channel data. As a result, the insolations estimated from GOES-9 for cloudy conditions show good agreement with MTSAT-1R and ground observation : RMSE=$83.439W\;m^{-2}$ Bias=$27.296W\;m^{-2}$. The result improved accuracy confirms that the modification of Cloud Factor for GOES-9 can improve the continuity and consistency of the insolations derived from two or more satellites.
We performed a numerical investigation to find out the optimal choice of the spatial discretization in the distributed-Lagrangian-multiplier/fictitious-domain (DLM/FD) method for the solid/fluid interaction problem. The elastic solid bar attached on the bottom in a pressure-driven channel flow of a Newtonian fluid was selected as a model problem. Our formulation is based on the scheme of Yu (2005) for the interaction between flexible bodies and fluid. A fixed regular rectangular discretization was applied for the description of solid and fluid domain by using the fictitious domain concept. The hydrodynamic interaction between solid and fluid was treated implicitly by the distributed Lagrangian multiplier method. Considering a simplified problem of the Stokes flow and the linearized elasticity, two numerical factors were investigated to clarify their effects and to find the optimum condition: the distribution of Lagrangian multipliers and the solid/fluid interfacial condition. The robustness of this method was verified through the mesh convergence and a pseudo-time step test. We found that the fluid stress in a fictitious solid domain can be neglected and that the Lagrangian multipliers are better to be applied on the entire solid domain. These results will be used to extend our study to systems of elastic particle in the Stokes flow, and of particles in the viscoelastic fluid.

This paper presents the applicability of MIMO joint decoding to dual-contact satellite systems in which two LEO satellites using X-band frequency band are transmitting each image data to two ground station antennas, simultaneously. When two satellites are closely positioned within the looking angle of the two antennas, each satellite interferes with each other by the relative antenna gain corresponding to an offset angle and this might cause the performance degradation without interference mitigation. To mitigate the performance degradation, SM MIMO techniques for joint decoding are applied. Especially, the relative antenna gain of ground station depending on the angle difference between two satellites in ground station antenna plays an important role in modelling the dual-contact satellite systems. The condition number of MIMO channel including the antenna gain calculated from the mathematical gain pattern model was primarily analyzed. Simulation results showed that the SM MIMO techniques using detection schemes such as ZF-SIC, MMSE-SIC, and ML can be applicable to dual-contact satellite systems.

In cellular communication systems employing millimeter wave (mmWave) bands for a link, a large amount of training time and network resources will be required to find a serving BS with the best transmit and receive (Tx-Rx) beam pair if downlink control signals are used. In this paper, a tracking technique for OFDM-based cellular communication systems with a mmWave link, where an analog beamforer is used at the mobile station (MS) and a digital beamformer is used at the BS, is proposed using an uplink signal. A technique to select a serving BS with the best beam pair is described using the uplink preamble sequence based on Zadoff-Chu sequence and a metrics which can be used to identify parameters such as beam ID (BID), MS ID (MID), and direction-of-arrival (DoA). The effectiveness of the proposed technique is verified via simulation with the spatial channel model (SCM) for a moving MS in mmWave cellular systems.
