A Study on the Security Structure of Next Generation E-mail System (차세대 이메일 보안 기술에 관한 연구)

  • E-mail's role has been increased due to its merit which is sending demanded information in real-time anywhere, anytime. However, Today's E-mail security threats have being changed intelligently to attack against the specific agency. The threat is a limit to respond. Therefore precise definition and development of security technology is needed to analyze changing environment and technologies of e-mail so that remove fundamental security threat. we proposed Next Generation E-mail System Security Structure and the Next Generation fusion System using authentication As a result, in this study, we development of Next Generation E-mail System Security Structure. This system can protect E-mail user from social engineering hacking technique, spam, virus, malicious code and fabrication.

A Study on Spam Document Classification Method using Characteristics of Keyword Repetition (단어 반복 특징을 이용한 스팸 문서 분류 방법에 관한 연구)

  • In Web environment, a flood of spam causes serious social problems such as personal information leak, monetary loss from fishing and distribution of harmful contents. Moreover, types and techniques of spam distribution which must be controlled are varying as days go by. The learning based spam classification method using Bag-of-Words model is the most widely used method until now. However, this method is vulnerable to anti-spam avoidance techniques, which recent spams commonly have, because it classifies spam documents utilizing only keyword occurrence information from classification model training process. In this paper, we propose a spam document detection method using a characteristic of repeating words occurring in spam documents as a solution of anti-spam avoidance techniques. Recently, most spam documents have a trend of repeating key phrases that are designed to spread, and this trend can be used as a measure in classifying spam documents. In this paper, we define six variables, which represent a characteristic of word repetition, and use those variables as a feature set for constructing a classification model. The effectiveness of proposed method is evaluated by an experiment with blog posts and E-mail data. The result of experiment shows that the proposed method outperforms other approaches.

Spam-Filtering by Identifying Automatically Generated Email Accounts (자동 생성 메일계정 인식을 통한 스팸 필터링)

  • In this paper, we describe a novel method of spam-filtering to improve the performance of conventional spam-filtering systems. Conventional systems filter emails by investigating words distribution in email headers or bodies. Nowadays, spammers begin making email accounts in web-based email service sites and sending emails as if they are not spams. Investigating the email accounts of those spams, we notice that there is a large difference between the automatically generated accounts and ordinaries. Based on that difference, incoming emails are classified into spam/non-spam classes. To classify emails from only account strings, we used decision trees, which have been generally used for conventional pattern classification problems. We collected about 2.15 million account strings from email service sites, and our account checker resulted in the accuracy of $96.3\%$. The previous filter system with the checker yielded the improved filtering performance.

  • Web-Mail Services are implemented with SMTP and POP3 in these days. These web mail services provide not only the basic sending and receiving functions but also additional functions for user. However, the sent and received data are stored in the web mail server. So general web mail users can't process their mail data if they have not access ID for the web mail server. In this paper, we design and implement WMIS (Web Mail Integration System) using XML. In the proposed system, mail data and user's environments in the old web mail system are transformed into XML documents and inserted into database. In order to store XML data into database, we use dynamic document processing method and analyze XML file by record unit. When the users change their mail accounts, they easily can establish the web environments and their mail data. Because the transformed XML document is converted into WML easily, the WMIS can reduce development cost, labors and time.

  • E-mail is one of the important tools for communicating with people in everyday life. With COVID-19 (Coronavirus) increasing non-face-to-face activity, security incidents through e-mail such as spam, phishing, and ransomware are increasing. E-mail security incidents are increasing as social engineering attack using human psychology rather than arising from technological weaknesses that e-mails have. Security incidents using human psychology can be prevented and defended by improving security awareness. This study empirically studies the analysis of changes in response to malicious e-mail due to improved security awareness through malicious e-mail simulations on executives and employees of domestic and foreign company. In this study, the factors of security training, top-down security management, and security issue sharing are found to be effective in safely responding to malicious e-mail. This study presents a new study by conducting empirical analysis of theoretical research on security awareness in relation to malicious e-mail responses, and results obtained from simulations in a practical setting may help security work.

  • 본 논문은 점점 증가되고 있는 SPAM 메일 문제를 해결하기 위한 방법으로써, 특정 속성에 기반을 둔 학습 알고리즘의 co-training을 통한 전자메일 분류 기법을 제안한다. 전자메일 분류는 결국 문서 분류 기술과 다르지 않다. 이미 많은 연구에서 학습 알고리즘을 이용한 문서 분류 기법은 많이 제안되고 검증되었다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 학습 알고리즘들을 co-training을 통하여 해당 메일이 SPAM인지 아닌지 구분하며, 학습의 효율성을 높이기 위하여 전자메일의 특정한 속성들, 예를 들면, 핵심문구나 기타 특정한 문구 및 전자메일의 헤더 정보 등을 학습 기반으로 이용하였다.

  • The amount of incoming e-mails is increasing rapidly due to the wide usage of Internet. Therefore, it is more required to classify incoming e-mails efficiently and accurately. Currently, the e-mail classification techniques are focused on two way classification to filter spam mails from normal ones based mainly on Bayesian and Rule. The clustering method has been used for the multi-way classification of e-mails. But it has a disadvantage of low accuracy of classification. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-way e-mail classification method that uses PCA for automatic category generation and dynamic category hierarchy for high accuracy of classification. It classifies a huge amount of incoming e-mails automatically, efficiently, and accurately.

A Research on an Email Method based on Sender Mailbox (송신자사서함 기반의 메일 방식에 관한 연구)

  • The conventional email method based on a recipient mailbox has a structural weakness, which may cause the spam message problem and the extreme waste of recipient mailbox space, and also require an explicit recipient notification scheme. This paper proposes a new email method based on a sender mailbox and evaluates its performance. Under the new email method, a message is stored at sender mailbox instead of recipient one until an intended recipient reads the message, so that the burden of mailbox management such as removing spam message is now shifted to sender side. And also a sender can confirm whether an intended recipient has read his or her message by simply rummaging his or her sender mailbox. The results of Performance evaluation show that 75% of mailbox space and 90% of message traffic are reduced in conditions that the portions of spam message and multicasting message are 90% and 80%, respectively.

  • 인터넷 환경의 급속한 발전으로 인하여 전자우편을 통한 메시지 교환은 급속히 증가하고 있다. 하지만 전자우편의 편리성에도 불구하고 개인이나 기업에서는 스팸메일로 인한 시간과 비용의 낭비가 크게 증가하고 있다. 기존의 스팸메일에 대한 연구는 패턴 매칭에 의한 분류나 확률에 의한 분류가 대부분인데 이와 같은 방법들은 변형된 형태의 메일에 대한 탐지에 있어서 비효율적이다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 연구에 대한 문제점을 보완하기 위하여 패턴 분류문제에 있어서 우수한 성능을 보이는 SVM을 이용하여 정상적인 메일과 스팸메일을 구분하는 방안에 대하여 제시한다.

A Novel Statistical Feature Selection Approach for Text Categorization

  • For text categorization task, distinctive text features selection is important due to feature space high dimensionality. It is important to decrease the feature space dimension to decrease processing time and increase accuracy. In the current study, for text categorization task, we introduce a novel statistical feature selection approach. This approach measures the term distribution in all collection documents, the term distribution in a certain category and the term distribution in a certain class relative to other classes. The proposed method results show its superiority over the traditional feature selection methods.
