  • The serious issue of tall building is to ensure the fire resistance of high strength concrete. Therefore, Solving methods are required to control the explosive spalling. The fire resistant finishing method is installed by applying a fire resistant material as a light-weight material to structural steel and concrete surface. This method can reduce the temperature increase of the reinforcement embedded in structural steel and concrete at high temperature due to the installation thickness control. This study is interested in identifying the effectiveness of light-weight fire protection material compounds including the inorganic admixture such as fly ash, meta-kaolin and light-weight aggregate as the fire resistant finishing materials through the analysis of fire resistance and components properties at high temperature. Also, this paper is concerned with change in microstructure and dehydration of the light-weight fire protection materials at high temperatures. The testing methods of fire protection materials in high temperature properties are make use of SEM and XRD. The study results show that the light-weight fire resistant finishing material composed of fly ash, meta-kaolin and light-weight aggregate has the thermal stability of the slight decrease of compressive strength at high temperature. These thermal stability is caused by the ceramic binding capacity induced by alkali activation reaction by the reason of the thermal analysis result not showing the decomposition of calcium hydrate. Developed light-weight fire protection materials showed good stability in high Temperatures. Thus, the results indicate that it is possible to fireproof panels, fire protection of materials.

  • Fire-resistant (FR) test data for a square concrete-filled steel tube (CFT) columns consisting of high-strength steel (fy>650MPa) and high strength concrete (fck>100MPa) under axial loads are insufficient. The FR behavior of square high-strength CFT members was investigated experimentally for two specimens having ${\Box}-400{\times}400{\times}15{\times}3,000mm$ with two axial load cases (5,000kN and 2,500kN). The results show that the FR performance of the high-strength CFT was rapidly decreased at earlier time (much earlier at high axial load) than expected due to high strength concrete spalling and cracks. In addition, a fiber element analysis (FEA) model was proposed and used to simulate the fiber behaviour of the columns. For steel and concrete, the mechanical and thermal properties recommended in EN 1994-1-2 are adopted. Test results were compared to those of numerical analyses considering a combination of temperature and axial compression. The numerical model can reasonably predict the time-axial deformation relationship.

  • Unlike the existing truss models for shear and torsion analysis, in this study, the torsional capacities of reinforced concrete (RC) members were estimated by introducing multi-potential capacity criteria that considered the aggregate interlock, concrete crushing, and spalling of concrete cover. The smeared truss model based on the fixed-angle theory was utilized to obtain the torsional behavior of reinforced concrete member, and the multi-potential capacity criteria were then applied to draw the capacity of the member. In addition, to avoid any iterative calculation in the existing torsional behavior model, a simple strength model was suggested that considers key variables, such as the effective thickness of torsional member, principal stress angle, and strain effect that reduces the resistance of concrete due to large longitudinal tensile strain. The proposed multi-potential capacity concept and the simple strength model were verified by comparing with test results collected from the literature. The study found that the multi-potential capacity could estimate in a rational manner not only the torsional strength but also the failure mode of RC members subjected to torsional moment, by reflecting the reinforcing index in both transverse and longitudinal directions, as well as the sectional and material properties of RC members.

  • Cast-in-place concrete-filled hollow PC (HPC) columns are used to reduce lifting load of heavy-weight PC columns and to improve the structural integrity of joints. In the present study, a new type of HPC column was proposed to improve the productivity and structural integrity of the concrete. To form the hollow PC columns, a permanent inner form was prefabricated using structural deck plates and penetrated lateral bars. Half-scale specimens of four HPC columns were tested under combined axial compression and lateral cyclic loading to evaluate the seismic resistance. In the design of test specimens, various parameters such as the spacing of lateral re-bars, the use of steel fiber, and the thickness of PC cover were considered. The test results showed that the proposed HPC columns generally exhibited satisfactory load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity without brittle failure of PC. If closely spaced hoops or fiber reinforcements are used for PC, the deformation capacity can be improved further by restraining PC spalling.

  • In tunnel, though the frequency of fire occurrence is relatively lower than other structures, the characteristics of sealed space tends to cause the temperature to rapidly rise to more than $1000^{\circ}C$ within 5 minutes after fire, which might eventually lead to a large fire that usually results in a loss of lives and the damage to the properties, not to mention a huge cost necessary for repair and maintenance after fire. Referring to foreign tunnel fire scenarios, it clarified the heat transfer characteristics of concrete PC panel lining depending on fire intensity (ISO, MHC, RWS), and to identify the range of thermal damage, the evaluation was carried out using ITA standard. As a result, 39mm under ISO fire condition, 50mm under MHC and 100mm under RWS were measured. And when it comes to spalling, 30mm was measured under RWS. When PC panel was designed to serve the support, a fire resistance to the minimum depth of 100mm of the concrete that might be damaged under the fire shall be maintained, and in case of a non-support structure, PC lining shall have at least 100mm thickness.

  • In this study we experimentally evaluated an impact resistant performance of fiber reinforced concrete in the moment of explosion by high-velocity projectile with emulsion explosive. To assess the impact resistance, we conducted the impact test of high-velocity projectile which reaches an impact speed of 350 m/s and the experiment of contact exploding emulsion explosive. As a result, bending and tensile performance depending on type of PVA, PE fiber (polyvinyl alcohol fiber, polyethylene fiber) and steel fiber affects destruction of rear side in the form of spalling. Destroying the backside of the concrete compressive strength compared to suppress the bending and tensile performance is affected. In addition, the experiment shows that the destruction patterns of concrete specimen producted by high velocity impact and contact explosion are significantly similar. Therefore, it is possible to predict the destruction patterns of specimens in the situation of contact explosion by high-velocity projectile.

  • The objective of the present study is to investigate how elevated temperature ranging from $100^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ as well as room temperature affects the variation of mechanical properties of high strength concrete ($over\;f_{ck}=60MPa\;grade$). In this experiment, specimens were exposed for a period of $2^{\circ}C/min$ to temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$ $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$, respectively. Accordingly, the study investigated the fire resistance performance of high strength concrete mixed with composite fibers which composed with hybrid fibers and steel fibers. After cooling down to ambient temperature, the following basic mechanical properties were then evaluated and compared with reference values obtained prior to thermal exposure: (i) compressive strength in room temperature; (ii) residual compressive strength; (iii) Poisson's ratio; (iv) weight change; (v) SEM analysis & XRD analysis In addition, XRD and SEM Images analyses were performed to investigate chemical and physical characteristics of high strength concrete with composite fibers according to high temperature.

  • When the concrete is subjected to chloride attack or carbonation, the passive steel normally initiate corrosion. By product of corrosion make volume of concrete expand 3 to 8 times and induce the stress which lead cracking and spalling of concrete. It result in the loss of the integrity of the concrete structures. Several corrosion inhibitors imported from America, Japan and Europe are currently being used to repair the concrete structures in Korea. However, questions has been raised for protective effect of the corrosion inhibitors which applied in steel reinforced concrete structures. Therefore, we investigated the influence of type and amount of corrosion inhibitors through the tests immersing in salty water. In addition, we developed the corrosion inhibitive agent treating to surface of concrete structures for improving resistance to penetration and corrosion of the steel reinforcement.

  • Accordingly architectural structure is getting high-rise and bigger, a use of high strength and high performance concrete has been increasing. High performance concrete has cons of explosion in a fire. This Explosion in the fire can cause the loss of the sheath on a concrete surface, therefore it effects that increasing a rate of heat transmission between the steel bar and inner concrete. Preventing this explosion of high performance concrete in the fire, many kinds of researches are now in progressing. Typically, researches with using Polypropylene-fiber and Steel-fiber can prove controling the explosion, but the reduction of mobility was posed as a problem of workability. Consequently, to solve the problem as mentioned above, concrete cans secure fire resisting capacity through the using of coating liquid, including Ester-lubricant and non-ionic characteristic surfactant. This research has been drawn a ideal condition in compressive strength areas of concrete by an experiment. When applying 13mm of polyamide-fiber, proper fiber mixing volume by compressive strength areas of concrete is $0.8kg/m^3$ in 60MPa, $1.0kg/m^3$ in 80MPa, $1.5kg/m^3$ in $100MPa/m^3$. These amount of a compound can control the explosion.
