A Study on the Spacial Boundary in Sejima Kazuyo's Housing Architecture (세지마 가즈요의 주거건축에 나타나는 경계공간에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the spacial boundary in Kazuyo Sejima's housing architecture, to give attention to contemporary housing architecture that we inhabit, and to escape from existing architectural concepts. This study seeks to the meaning and possibility of the spacial boundary on the basis of contemporary architecture. The spacial boundary can be studied in the aspect of architectural space that molds human experience and perception. As a result of this study, three properties in the spacial boundary are revealed. One property of the spacial boundary is soft that protect privacy from gaze of exterior. Another property is that communication that changes according to material of boundary and its experience of observer. The other property is to have uncertainty by compound of programs and material-mixing senses including its perception. This results means that the spacial boundary as interface which is represent our everyday life in the contemporary housing architecture.

  • Hospital architectures, as a function-oriented architecture, have a great influences on the functional program and spacial allocation for a great number of rooms and departments. Particularly, spacial allocating analysis is depends on various external forces, such as hospital-size, relationships for the others, ownerships, operating methods, long-term masterplan as well as researchers' methods. Furthermore, as there is focusing on architectural design basis rather than architectural planning In recent Korean architectural field, adequate analysing methodology of spacial allocation for the design process is needed. This paper analyzes architectural drawings for 8 Korean hospitals which constructed in recent 20 years in aspects of the spacial allocation for inner spaces and then, presents areal composition and pattern of spacial allocation for researching hospitals.

  • This study is purposed to understand the spacial usage of the furniture in detail for interior architecture. Many documents have prescribed the spacial furniture at random. While modernist have been interested in the spacial usage of the furniture, the importance of the spacial furniture stands out in architectural space. Since long ago, a great deal of effort has been put into creating a relational harmony between the space and furniture. The villa, the weekend home of the Savoye family, was built between 1928 and 1931. Particularly, the villa Savoye was focused for this study. Le Corbusier viewed desks and case pieces for storage as architecture, and the unite furniture and architecture by developing cabinets in standard modules that could be painted either the wall color to become part of the wall or in contrasting colors to stand out as furniture. Spacial furniture was used architecturally in the interior as well, it gives the space an unexpected playfulness with the color of the finishing materials. The various usage of the Spacial furniture constitute an element of great architectural richness. They have a unique principle based on emotional order and make the man move to another space and experience the spacial connection. In particular, the furniture that was considered by Corbuisier have rational function, division of the space, leaning the structure, and so on. The furniture as the element of the space composition can change the architectural space and view as well as connecting each other. Spacial furniture appear as physical ones called wall, floor, column, and existential value as a living space.

  • It has been practiced that past school buildings were planned focused spacial composition of functional and aesthetic. Therefore there is little consideration of psychological consciousness for the very user-students and teachers.   • MVRDV is most important architect as created interesting architectural space in contemporary architecture, and so they applies to the unique theory in their architecture. They used to architectural diagram, program, datascape, density as a design tool. Especially, they have create new architectural space and form in using architectural diagram, program, datascape, density, and void. So, this study is purposed to explain how they use as architectural tool to make composition of it's architectural space and is purpose to explain what is their main concept in architectural space. MVRDV's architectural space has fundamental methodology. That is Datascape on uncertainty and continuity between urban space and architectural space. The former consist in using diagram and architectural program and the latter consist in operating architectural void and inner continuity surface. The conclusion is follows 1. The mode of spacial composition by architectural void is correspond density of city as MVRDV's architectural thinking. 2. The mode of spacial composition by architectural program is ambiguous to the boundary between inner and exterior space by transparency. 3. The mode of spacial composition by architectural diagram make to generate the architectural form and space, through the reinterpretation and relocation of architectural program. 4. The mode of spacial composition inner continuity plane is make relative between site and inner space.

  • Contemporary architecture is philosophy and art, and science are different that holds the architecture of human thought and behavior based on a variety of physical space. In addition, the technology is used by the new media graphics, lasers, LED, which were possible only in imagination, using tools such as the time-space of the potential for explosion. In particular, it was found in the spacial color of atypical using the nature of light. Such these architecture is space people actively experiencing a sense towards the expansion of its place. Therefore, the study purpose is to explore the Steven Holl's spacial colors to utilize the space is important to the possibility of light. He prefers the connection to the invisible world is inferred from the visible world and other space. He thoughts an idea linked to the concept watercolors which is a tool that holds to the notion of the flexibility of light and shadow. Concept watercolor is the idea space, establish space, recombinant space, and the growthy space. These have shown the no fixed spacial color cause of the combination of the different tones according to the characteristics of the mixed-color development of a concept watercolors demonstrated the spacial color of the replacement. That is to establish a parody of the works light blending spacial color.

  • The researches on the spacial structure analysis have been mainly accomplished with the qualitative analysis approaches and did not examine closely the attributes of spacial structure. The Space Syntax which is one of the methods of spacial structure analysis is performed usefully at home and abroad in order to analyze quantitatively the spacial structure and to be clear logically the physical structure. This study introduced the fundamental notions of Space Syntax and analyzed its applied research cases, and tried to find its applicable subjects for rural planning.

  • Colin Rowe's 'Transparency' is one of core ideas applied to 20th Modern Architecture. It implies not only an optical characteristic, the perfectly clear, but also a broader spacial order, a simultaneous perception of different spacial locations. The former connected with physical attribute itself, and the latter deeply with the metaphorical idea of time, 'Simultaneity', embodying a new spacial quality. However, If we analyze the meaning of "Simultaneity" implicated in "Transparency" with the perspective of Henry Bergson's "Duration", there would be only little possibility as a solution to the problem of embodying a new spacial quality in architecture. As such a question emerging, this paper attempts to point out the problem of Colin Rowe's idea, "Simultaneity", and suggest a new architectural design method to overcome its inconsistency by interpretation and application of Bergson's "Image and Rhythm".

  • As construction projects become larger and more complex in the construction environment, and as the Building Information Model(BIM) is technically introduced, the demand for construction costs in units of space is increasing. Cost estimating of spacial element can reduce the error in cost prediction method based on cost of work type and to utilize the construction cost data for each space in the design phase. The purpose of this study is to extract spatial statements by utilizing spacial information of quantitative statements based on items that are common elements of the Quantity Take-Off and Bill of Quantity.

Multi-objective Fuzzy Control of a Spacial Structure using Smart Base Isolation System (스마트 면진시스템을 이용한 대공간 구조물의 다목적 퍼지제어)

  • In this study, a smart base isolation system has been proposed to reduce dynamic responses of a spacial structure subjected to seismic excitation. MR dampers and low damping elastomeric bearings were used to compose a smart base isolation system and its vibration control performance has been investigated compared to that of the optimally designed lead-rubber bearing (LRB) isolation system. Control performance of smart base isolation system depends on control algorithm. Fuzzy controller was used in this study to effectively control the spacial structure having a smart base isolation system. Dynamic responses of the spacial structure with isolation system is conflict with base drifts and thus these two responses are selected as objective functions to apply multi-objective genetic algorithm to optimization of fuzzy controller. Based on numerical simulation results, it has been shown that the smart base isolation system proposed in this study can drastically reduce base drifts and seismic responses of the example spacial structure in comparison with the optimally designed LRB isolation system.
