A Study on Transformational stream in Space and Time of the Animation - Focusing on the Georges Schwizgebel's Works - (애니메이션 시공간의 변형적 흐름에 관한 연구 - 조르주 슈비츠게벨의 작품을 중심으로-)

  • Unlike the other media, the animation has its unique aesthetic characteristics. First, one of the media characteristics of the animation is creativity images of the hand drawn animation by shooting of frame by frame. Next the animation image which is created through metamorphosis obtain new space-time by unique motility. This paper treats of two parts of space and time in animation. One is the metamorphosis image of animation and the other is the motility. To concrete this, this paper analyzed Georges Schwizgebel's Works. They are very interesting that the structural characteristics of the animation. Especially, , < La course ${\grave{a}}$ $l^{\prime}ab{\hat{i}}me$ > directed by Georges Schwizgebel are a good text for analyzing space-time of animation in that it combines various metamorphosis and motility with his expressions. The images of his works are continuously maintained transformational stream by his main expressions of metamorphosis and motility etc. This study focuses on analyzing the way of metamorphosis and motility function to make meaning in this texts. His works consist with metamorphosis and motility, and various moving images to let audience feel the characteristics of space and time in animation. We can experience numerous dual structures like space and time, freeze-frame and motility, rhythm and repetition, two dimension and three dimension, dissolution and reconstitution, abstract shape and concrete form etc from these cases. One of the main apparat is the emphasis of metamorphosis and motility by independent space of animation.

Acquisition of Intrinsic Image by Omnidirectional Projection of ROI and Translation of White Patch on the X-chromaticity Space (X-색도 공간에서 ROI의 전방향 프로젝션과 백색패치의 평행이동에 의한 본질 영상 획득)

  • Algorithms for intrinsic images reduce color differences in RGB images caused by the temperature of black-body radiators. Based on the reference light and detecting single invariant direction, these algorithms are weak in real images which can have multiple invariant directions when the scene illuminant is a colored illuminant. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a method of acquiring an intrinsic image by omnidirectional projection of an ROI and a translation of white patch in the ${\chi}$-chromaticity space. Because it is not easy to analyze an image in the three-dimensional RGB space, the ${\chi}$-chromaticity is also employed without the brightness factor in this paper. After the effect of the colored illuminant is decreased by a translation of white patch, an invariant direction is detected by omnidirectional projection of an ROI in this chromaticity space. In case the RGB image has multiple invariant directions, only one ROI is selected with the bin, which has the highest frequency in 3D histogram. And then the two operations, projection and inverse transformation, make intrinsic image acquired. In the experiments, test images were four datasets presented by Ebner and evaluation methods was the follows: standard deviation of the invariant direction, the constancy measure, the color space measure and the color constancy measure. The experimental results showed that the proposed method had lower standard deviation than the entropy, that its performance was two times higher than the compared algorithm.

  • This thesis explores the problem of reconstructing a three-dimensional(3D) scene given a set of images or image sequences of the scene. It describes efficient methods for the 3D reconstruction of static and dynamic scenes from stereo images, stereo image sequences, and images captured from multiple viewpoints. Novel methods for image-based and volumetric modelling approaches to 3D reconstruction are presented, with an emphasis on the development of efficient algorithm which produce high quality and accurate reconstructions. For image-based 3D reconstruction a novel energy minimisation scheme, Iterated Dynamic Programming, is presented for the efficient computation of strong local minima of discontinuity preserving energyy functions. Coupled with a novel morphological decomposition method and subregioning schemes for the efficient computation of a narrowband matching cost volume. the minimisation framework is applied to solve problems in stereo matching, stereo-temporal reconstruction, motion estimation, 2D image registration and 3D image registration. This thesis establishes Iterated Dynamic Programming as an efficient and effective energy minimisation scheme suitable for computer vision problems which involve finding correspondences across images. For 3D reconstruction from multiple view images with arbitrary camera placement, a novel volumetric modelling technique, Embedded Voxel Colouring, is presented that efficiently embeds all reconstructions of a 3D scene into a single output in a single scan of the volumetric space under exact visibility. An adaptive thresholding framework is also introduced for the computation of the optimal set of thresholds to obtain high quality 3D reconstructions. This thesis establishes the Embedded Voxel Colouring framework as a fast, efficient and effective method for 3D reconstruction from multiple view images.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-view images coding algorithm to find the optimal depth and texture from the set of multi-view images. The proposed algorithm consists of two consecutive steps, i) the depth estraction step, and ii) the texture extraction step, comparedwith the traditional algorithem which finds the depth and texture concurrently. The X-Y plane of the normalized object space is divided into traingular paatches and the Z value of the node is determined in the first step and then the texture of the each patch is extracted in the second step. In the depth extraction step, the depth of the node is determined by applying the block based disparity compensation method to the windowed area centered at the node. In the second step, the texture of the traingular patches is extracted from the multi-view images by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the traingular pateches with the depth extracted from the first step. Experimental results show that the SNR(Singnal-to- Noise Ratio) of images enconded by our algorithm is better than that of images encoded by the traditional algorithm by the amount about 4dB for for the test sets of multi-view images called dragon, kid, city and santa.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the Avant-garde's aesthetic values and expressoinal characteristic, and to find out(analysis) the design characteristic of Avant garde fashion since 1995. Expressoinal characteristics of Avant garde with the anti-aesthetic, radically pursuing newness, and open mind, are revealed dynamism, hostile innovation, and experimentalism. Futuristic images expressed in dynamism represent space style, body conscious style, cyborg style, kinetic style, and primitive style. And deconstructional images related to hostile innovation show punk style, grunge style, humor style, and abstractive style. Also surreal images related to experimentalism hold erotic style, depasemant style, deformation style, and collage style. The proper usage of newness offers the escape, the vividness, and the humour from the fatigue of the life and so, it is expected to offer the chance of transfering the active individuals and societies directly or indirectly By analyzing the instances for the images of avant-garde fashion since 1995, the contribution about the expectation of the design trends of the present and future is expected.

  • The rapid growth and influence of digital technologies have had a profound effect on modern society. Companies and businesses can connect through SNS(social network service accounts). The importance of mass media empowers the creation of virtual images that are more realistic than time and space. Unlike traditional reproduction or imitation, the virtual images created in this way are reproduced in a form that lacks the original inspiration's essence. Jean Baudrillard described this phenomenon as the theory of simulation. Baudrillard argued that imitated simulated images replace reality. He stated that reality is lost under excessive images in modern society. In response, based on an understanding of the theory of hyper-reality that emerged through the late stages of the order of simulacre, this study aimed to analyze modern fashion's method of reproducing hyper-real images and investigate the method's characteristics. This study examined the characteristics of hyper-reality described by Baudrillard and analyzed the method of artistic expression of hyper-reality. Based on this method of expression, reproducibility, following the stages of image simulation, was derived. A specific case applied to fashion was analyzed, and based on the image reproduction method, specific characteristics of hyper-reality characteristics in fashion were obtained. Sixty-four collections were selected, out of which 155 images and 43 brands demonstrated the principles of image transformation.

  • A three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction is an important research area in computer vision. The ability to detect and match features across multiple views of a scene is a critical initial step. The tracking matrix W obtained from a 3D reconstruction can be applied to structure from motion (SFM) algorithms for 3D modeling. We often fail to generate an acceptable number of features when processing face or medical images because such images typically contain large homogeneous regions with minimal variation in intensity. In this study, we seek to locate sufficient matching points not only in general images but also in face and medical images, where it is difficult to determine the feature points. The algorithm is implemented on an adaptive threshold value, a scale invariant feature transform (SIFT), affine SIFT, speeded up robust features (SURF), and affine SURF. By applying the algorithm to face and general images and studying the geometric errors, we can achieve quasi-dense matching points that satisfy well-functioning geometric constraints. We also demonstrate a 3D reconstruction with a respectable performance by applying a column space fitting algorithm, which is an SFM algorithm.

An Identification Method of Detrimental Video Images Using Color Space Features (컬러공간 특성을 이용한 유해 동영상 식별방법에 관한 연구)

  • This paper proposes an identification algorithm that detects detrimental digital video contents based on the color space features. In this paper, discrimination algorithm based on a 2-Dimensional Projection Maps is suggested to find targeted video images. First, 2-Dimensional Projection Maps which is extracting the color characteristics of the video images is applied to extract effectively detrimental candidate frames from the videos, and next estimates similarity between the extracted frames and normative images using the suggested algorithm. Then the detrimental candidate frames are selected from the result of similarity evaluation test which uses critical value. In our experimental test, it is suggested that the results of the comparison between the Color Histogram and the 2-Dimensional Projection Maps technique to detect detrimental candidate frames. Through the various experimental data to test the suggested method and the similarity algorithm, detecting method based on the 2-Dimensional Projection Maps show more superior performance than using the Color Histogram technique in calculation speed and identification abilities searching target video images.

Analysis of Color Constancy Methods for Recovering Skin Color Independent of Illuminants (광원에 독립적인 피부색 복원을 위한 색 항등성 기법 분석)

  • The skin color has been used as important cues in the systems for detecting or recognizmg the face. However, the color difference in images under different illuminants makes it difficult to find out the skin in these systems. For solving the problem, this paper proposes a method of recovering skin colors based on well-known color constancy approaches, such as Retinex, Gray World, White Patch, and Simplified Horn. To acquire experimental images under the colored scene illumination, the effects of colored illuminants were added to source images. Next, result images, having the corrected skin color by the constancy methods, were derived from the source images. The experiment results showed that most of the skin colors in our experiments were recovered into some steady range in the color space, and that Gray World had higher performance than the other methods compared.

STRATOSPHERIC IMAGES OF JUPITER DERIVED FROM HYDROCARBON EMISSIONS IN VOYAGER 1 AND 2 IRIS SPECTRA

  • Spectroscopic data obtained by the Infrared Interferometer Spectrometer (IRIS) aboard Voyager 1 and 2 have been re-visited. Using the spectroscopic data and footprints of the IRIS aperture on the planet, we constructed images of the stratosphere of Jupiter at the emission bands of hydrocarbons including $CH_4,\;C_2H_6,\;C_2H_2,\;C_3H_4,\;C_6H_6$, and $C_2H_4$. Thermal emission from the hydrocarbons on Jupiter originates from a broad region of the stratosphere extending from 1 to 10 millibars. We averaged the data using a bin of 20 degrees of longitude and latitudes in order to increase signal-to-noise ratios. The resultant images show interesting wave structure in Jupiter's stratosphere. Fourier transform analyses of these images yield wavenumbers 5 - 7 at mid-Northern and mid-Southern latitudes, and these results are different from those resulted from previous ground-based observations and recent Cassini CIRS, suggesting temporal variations on the stratospheric infrared pattern. The comparisons of the Voyager 1 and 2 spectra also show evidence of temporal intensity variations not only on the infrared hydrocarbon polar brightenings of hydrocarbon emissions but also on the stratospheric infrared structure in the temperate regions of Jupiter over the 4 month period between the two Voyager encounters.
