Purpose - This paper addresses the role of designers in design-oriented firms and how they should work together with other organization members. The aim of this paper is to investigate how designers generate ideas and cooperate with others as well as how their participation in decision-making reflects on corporate design strategies. Research design, data, and methodology - An in-depth exploratory study examined how designers actually perform their roles in enterprises; in addition, information, knowledge, communication among designers, and sources of creativity were examined. Hanssem and Ikea grew as design-intensive businesses in a declining industry. Data were obtained from interviews with the design staff of each company as well as secondary sources. Results - Designers were found to use their designs to communicate with customers as well as with communities outside of the enterprise; they also participated in overall decision-making in relation to important design strategies. Conclusions - This study emphasized the increasing importance of the innovative and creative role of designers; thus, it might substantially help companies to develop their own design capabilities and deploy design strategies.

Shortage of fossil fuel energy makes current industry to find a new energy sources. One of the solutions is using the renewable energy sources like wind, sun, water, and so on. If we think with flex idea, the existing PV system's role can be greatly changed. So in this paper, I want to suggest some ideas for PV systems as one of outstanding energy source. Open innovation is based on a different knowledge landscape, with a different logic about the sources and uses of technologies. It implies that firms increasingly rely on external sources of innovation by emphasizing these ideas and resources. Using datasets from the UK biotechnology industry, this paper explores firms' willingness to participate in open innovation. The results indicate that the switching cost is identified as the direct predictor of the willingness to participate in open innovation. While high commitment based on the trust with partner increases switching costs, IT infrastructure within the firm decreases switching costs to open innovation. Taken together, this research broadens the study on open innovation by applying the switching cost as a medium of knowledge transfer in the biotech industry.

This paper analyzes the major comparisons and contrasts in entrepreneurship among technology-based university alumni over multiple decades from Tsinghua University in China and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States. In doing so, we ask two related research questions: (1) Who enters entrepreneurship and with what types of ideas and founding teams? (2) How do the innovation and other firm performance outcomes compare? We find that the sources of venture ideas and the composition of founding teams differ as well as the initial capital levels and revenues. This research provides a step toward a better understanding of high-tech entrepreneurship in developing vs. developed institutional environments. Furthermore, while MIT and Tsinghua University are unique in the programs they offer and in their historical cultures of entrepreneurship, both Tsinghua University and MIT provide benchmarks by which other institutions can gauge their alumni entrepreneurs and the types of ventures that they create.

The composition of human resources in industrial sites is becoming global. In Korea, too, the proportion of foreign members in all industrial fields and production sites is increasing. This is the reason why an approach that reflects this reality is needed in the basic unit of competitive sources. Competitiveness starts with value creation, and this progresses through field innovation. Through empirical analysis of this study, it was analyzed that South Korea members showed active actions and attitudes in developing, promoting, and realizing ideas when they strongly recognized the real meaning of empowerment given by leaders. On the other hand, it was found that foreign members do not know the meaning of empowerment itself, so they are often unable to play an active role in the development, promotion, and realization of ideas. In fact, it was analyzed that foreign members generally did not experience positive interactions with LMX and were exposed to simple tasks and controls. In other words, they are being discriminated against in terms of communication problems, compensation system, and work environment. In particular, this phenomenon is exacerbated in the case of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Situational response to foreign workers through improvement of LMX and empowerment should be evaluated as a key management task in a situation where productivity improvement and job unit innovation are urgently needed.

This study aimed to reveal the designer's creative process in the development of clothing designs. The researcher has taken roles both as a design practitioner and an observer. The full process of design development was concurrently documented while working to solve a specific problem. This included noting down the concept, keywords, and detailed scratch ideas, as well as refining the design by collecting sketches and taking photos. Integrated data from the captured design process were analyzed based on Lamb and Kallal's apparel design framework, which included problem identification, construction of preliminary ideas, design refinement, prototype development, and evaluation. The functional, expressive, and aesthetic (FEA) criteria of the entire process were thus assessed. Additionally, five professional apparel reviewers evaluated the design project based on FEA criteria. The results showed the processes for identifying targets and intentions, extracting the main elements from sources, developing the major visual concepts, and making final adjustments. Ultimately, this study revealed how a designer manages each stage of the creative design process. Sharing such detailed observations of the design process can help refine the knowledge involved in each stage of the creative process, and provide guidance for instructors in design education.

Self-induction is an important concept in the field of electromagnetism, which is dealt with in all the high school physics textbooks. According to the results of the survey on self-induction, most of general high school students and even science high school students have overgeneralized concepts that high self-induced emf. are produced whenever the switch is turned off in the circuit containing inductors. The reasons of this overgeneralization on self-induction could be explained through the analysis of current high school physics II textbooks. Main reasons can be attributed to the fact that, by depending on their intuitive ideas, students try to vaguely explain the concept, based on lighting up of Ne tube in the special circuit. This study found out qualitative method to have students effectively understand self-induction based on quantitative interpretation to gain scientific understanding on self-induction.

Researchers commonly begin a project by studying past works in the area and deriving relevant information and ideas from their predecessors. In presenting their works researchers acknowledge their debts to preflecessors by carefully documenting each source to indicate what they borrowed. The obvious form of plagiarism is to cokx without crediting the sources. Students have to learn how to quote and how to make reference lists or works cited at the end of their reports which allow readers to locate and use the sources they used for their reports. Nowadays online information sources through the internet increase day by day, but there is no standard documentation style for citing these sources. In this paper up-to-date documentation styles recommened by APA(American Psychological Association) and MLA(Modern Language Association) are introduced. It was found that the graduate schools and the academic societies in Korea do not keep a certain documentation style consistently by checking the school catalogs and the policy statements on manuscript submisssion to the journals.

Digital technology has been changing everyday life of ordinary people let alone the structure of world industry. The elderly care service is also going through changes influenced by the unavoidable impact from torrents of digital technologies. There are numerous reports and news about the digital technologies increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of care service yet lacking systematic understanding of the sources of such improvement. This study aims to present a new classification framework for digital elderly care service innovation to fully utilize the power of digital technologies drawing on insights from innovation studies and service studies. First, 4 features of digital technologies are identified as sources of new value in service innovation. The co-creation of value by users and producers in service and technology development is discussed to illuminate users' contributions to service innovation. Communication of needs and ideas with producers and application of new technologies into everyday practice of life are identified as the source of new value which can be attributed to the elderly. Customization along with efficiency gains is the key to digital elderly care service innovation. The classification framework, thus, incorporates the needs of the elderly as one axis of criteria in the conventional technology-centered framework. The new classification framework would help give due weight to user-driven or demand-driven innovation in the elderly care service R&D activities.

The purpose of this study is to examine the producing conventions of lifestyle news and search for problems with these conventions. This research is about the entire process of production of lifestyle news, while dividing it into sourcing conventions and editing conventions. With this concept as a goal, we analyzed the content of lifestyle articles over the last six months in two types of daily papers, and then interviewed journalists in-depth. The results of the study indicate that as for sourcing conventions, reporting is accomplished by focusing on a reporter and using anonymous or false-named news sources. These conventions spread widely over not only ideas but also valuation of news items and security of news sources. This is because in terms of lifestyle news that is closely related to one's private life such as family relations, a reporter often attempts to prevent a news source from being exposed to secondary damage, such as the criticism of readers. In the meantime, editing conventions of lifestyle articles are irrelevant in terms of the quality of each media enterprise. Instead, these conventions are connected with the day of publication. Moreover, editors tend to approach editing conventions to spread the culture of upper classes, recognizing that the readers are consumers who have purchasing power.
