A Study on the Attenuation of Road Traffic Noise with two Pillar Buildings (두 개의 각주형 건물에 의한 도로교통소음의 감쇠에 관한 연구)

  • When houses or buildings are adjacent to roads, with no effective prevention of road traffic noise, neighbors are exposed to it. It is important to understand the properties of sound propagation before taking a countermeasure against road traffic noise. It is easy to estimate the properties of sound propagation without obstacles, but very difficult and complex to estimate them with ones. The purpose of this study is to present a useful tool that can estimate the properties of sound propagation. In the beginning of this study, we investigated the attenuation of road traffic noise with two pillar buildings, and presented practical approximate calculation method, and verified that through scale model. The outcomes from this study are as follows : (1) Over second reflection sound waves can be ignored. (2) Diffraction sound waves that happen when reflection sound and first diffraction wave are projected at the wedge of other building can be ignored.

A hybrid algorithm of underwater structure vibration and acoustic radiation-propagation in ocean acoustic channel

  • In ocean environment, the sound speed gradient of seawater has an important influence on far field sound propagation. The FEM/BEM is used to decouple the vibroacoustic radiation of the spherical shell, and the Green function of the virtual source chain is adopted for decoupling. For far field radiated Sound Pressure Level (SPL), the Beam Displacement Ray normal Mode (BDRM) is employed. The vibration and near-/far-field radiated SPL of spherical shell is analyzed in shallow sea uniform layer, negative/positive gradient, negative thermocline environment, and deep-sea sound channel. Results show that the vibroacoustic radiation of spherical shell acted at 300Hz can be analogous to dipole. When the radiated field of the spherical shell is dominated by large-grazing-angle waves, it can be analogous to vertically distributed dipole, and the far field radiated SPL is lower; while similar to horizontally distributed dipole if dominated by small-grazing-angle waves, and the far field SPL is high.

Postprandial Epigastric Fullness and Pyloric Valve Disturbance in Patients with Functional Dyspepsia;Analysis of Bowel Sounds and Electrogastrography (기능성(機能性) 소화불량증(消化不良症) 환자(患者)의 식후(食後) 심하비만과 pyloric valve의 기능장애(機能障碍);장음과 위전도를 중심으로)

  • Background & Object : Postprandial epigastric fullness is one of common symptoms in functional dyspepsia, but its pathophysiological mechanism has still been unknown. In this study, its association between postprandial epigastric fullness and pyloric valve disturbance was studied through analysis of bowel sounds and electrogastrography. Methods : Bowel sounds and electrogastrography were recorded together for fasting 15 min and postprandial 40 min. Parameters of bowel soundincluding motility index, sound to sound interval, standard deviation of sound to sound interval, sounds per minute, % of bowel sound, sound length, intensity, dominant frequency of sounds, and postprandial / fasting ratio of dominant frequency of sounds were analyzed with a specialized program. By electrogastrography, regularity of slow waves and power ratio were obtained. Results : Significances of bowel sounds appeared in motility index (p=0.046), dominant frequency of fasting (p=0.048), postprandial (p=0.003), and the ratio of postprandial/fasting (p=0.000); those of EGG parameters were shown in postprandial regularity of slow waves (p=0.006) and power ratio (p=0.011). Conclusion : Pyloric valve disturbance was a cause of postprandial epigastric fullness in patients with functional dyspepsia. Analysis of bowel sound might be useful in diagnosing its existence.

  • The electromagnetic (light) waves are limited to penetrate the media, ie, water and sea-bottom layers, due to high energy attenuation, but acoustic (sound) waves play as the good messenger to gather the underwater target information. Therefore the acoustic methods are applied to almost of ocean equipments and technology in terms of in-water and sub-bottom surveys. Generally the sound character is controlled by its frequency. In case that the sound source is low frequency, the penetration is high and the resolution is low. On the other hand, its character is reversed at the high frequency. The common character at the both of light and sound is the energy damping according to the travel distance increase.

  • This paper addresses a new technique of measuring the mean flow velocity over the cross sectional area of the pipe using sound field reconstruction. When fluid flows in the pipe and two plane waves propagate oppositely through the medium, the flow velocity causes the change of wave number of the plane waves. The wave number of the positive going plane wave decreases and that of negative going one increases in comparison to static medium in the pipe. Theoretical backgrounds of this method are introduced in detail and the measurement of mean flow velocity using the sound field reconstruction is not affected by velocity profile upstream of microphones.

  • Anyang city performed a design competition for the existing paper mill site and this design is the work that was submitted to that competition. The design instructions for the competition were about an organic site which had harmony of aboveground park and underground parking lot, establishment of park planning which is fit for the features of nearby areas, and security of proper parking space. This design criteria set the design concept to a new wave of Anyang by reflecting the design instructions of prize contest and features of the site and developed it as three waves. First, the eco wave, one of three waves, means that it compose the ecological healthy park and urban environment together with restoration and preservation of Suamcheon (stream), and futhermore the waves that the natural resource are maintained in a delicate ecological balance as the water resource of Anyang city are connected to the axis of mountain resource. Secondly, the emotion wave indicates that the wave toward culture and art emotional park that stimulates and fills up the emotion to makes impoverishing modems minds fertile. Thirdly, the health wave means the waves toward a park to keep the sound of minds and bodies of Anyang citizens, and healthy and sound life as well as the waves toward a park to contribute the healthy leap and development of Anyang. These three waves will enrich the park keeping the dynamic relationship mutually and will be a new culture and art code of Anyang city.

Possibility of False Target Signals Induced by Reverberation Due to Internal Waves in Shallow Water (천해에서 내부파로 인해 생성되는 잔향음에 의한 허위표적 신호 발생 가능성)

  • It is investigated that there exists the possibility of the false target signals induced by reverberation in an active sonar system due to the internal waves in shallow water. The rays down-refracted from the internal waves may generate strong bottom-reverberation signals, which can result in false target signals. Sound waves emitted from a source propagate 3-dimensionally. Therefore, the study of internal waves on the reverberation should be studied for azimuthal direction as well as 2-dimensional (r-z) plane. Internal-wave modelling was conducted, based on solitons which were predicted with the various conditions such as, the range of source-soliton, horizontal widths of soliton. Variable depth sonar (VDS) was assumed as a source, of which the depth was located in the minimum sound speed layer in a simulation environment. Finally, the simulation on the reverberation level with time was made based on ray-based reverberation model, and the results implied that several false-target signals could be displayed on the PPI(Plan Position Indicator) scope simultaneously with range from source to soliton, and the horizontal width of soliton.

Emotional Evaluation According to the Changes of Visual and Auditory Landscape Elements in Residential Areas (주거단지의 시청각 조경요소 변화에 따른 감성평가)

  • This study aims to clarify differences among the responses of users depending on variations in audio-visual landscape elements used to create amenities in residential areas. For the purpose, a laboratory experiment was performed to evaluate the emotions of subjects. As a result of subjective evaluation, it was found that the emotions of subjects were more significantly promoted in providing both sounds and images at the same time, than in providing images alone. In addition, as a result of comparing the variables of relativistic energy alpha waves have by measuring their brain waves, it was seen that alpha waves increased when providing harmonious sound sources with images, except for specific sound sources. Thus, it is considered that provision of sound sources capable of promoting human emotions can contribute greatly to improving the value of space for the sake of comfortable housing environment.

  • This study aims to clarify differences among the responses of users depending on variations in audio-visual landscape elements used to create amenities in residential areas.
