  • Acoustic materials are used for the purpose of absorbing noise and reducing transmission of sound into the receiving room. The purpose of this research is to predict the performance of absorbent materials with respect to absorbing behavior and transmission loss as possible as accurately. The performance of the absorbent materials are carried out systematically as follows: The Biot parameter are measured, first. Then using above parameters as input, LMS's SYSNOISE and VIOLINS programs are used to predict absorption coefficient and transmission loss values, which magnitudes are compared with experimental results. As an sample acoustic material, SK SKY VIVA and PET are selected.

  • The Sound reduction indices(SRIs) of interior door with 13 different size apertures are measured in acoustic chamber. Also, as a theoretical approach, the SRIs are estimated using Gomperts' theory. In this study, the aperture of interior door is focused on the lower part of door leaf which is well known as a main cause to deteriorate the sound insulation performance of door. The results show that the SRI of door strongly depends on the aperture width and the dip in the measured sound reduction index curve by the resonance effect within aperture is observed at high-frequency. On the whole, the values calculated by theory are in good agreement with the measured values including the position of resonance dip. The average difference between the measured and the calculated values is 0.9 dB for 13 doors with different size aperture in terms of the weighted SRI.

  • The considerations in the noise control by enclosure are the rise of temperature and sound pressure, transmission loss, absorption coefficient of the materials, the structure of the soundproof panels, an opening and coincidence frequency. But it is very difficult that we obtain the accurate data about those in design, so, the noise reduction after enclosing does not correspond with the calculation. The difference of the noise reduction between the calculation and the measurement was 8.2dBA, and we can obtain the approximate result as the following formula which correct 10dBA, safely.

  • In this paper, an analysis of sound propagation between two rooms with different mediums is discussed. Statistical energy analysis (SEA) is used to consider energy equilibrium among subsystems associated with the sound pressure levels in two rooms and the vibration level of the wall between rooms. Effect of the sound radiation from the structure-borne noise of the wall on sound pressure level of the receiving room is investigated. For a numerical example, sound propagation between engine room and water tank joined by a steel plate whose size is $8.4{\times}4$ m, is considered. It is found that when the critical frequency of the plate is above the frequency range of interest, the sound pressure level in the water tank is dominated by sound transmission through the plate, while sound radiation from the structure-borne noise of the plate is negligible except low frequency range below 63 Hz.

  • This study is concerned with the temperature dependence characteristics of ultrasound parameters in biological tissues, which are basic on the noninvasive deep body temperature estimation. Used parameters are ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and sound velocity In order to accomplishment our purpose, several signal processing methods were used. Attenua4iorl coefficient was estimated by spectral difference method and sound velocity was estimated by P-P method. And we also examined these methods through a series of IN VITRO experi mentis that used tissue-mimicking phantom samples and biological tissue samples. In order to imitate the biological soft tissue two kinds of phantom samples are used, one is agar phantom sample which is composed of agar, graphite, N-propyl alcohol and distilled water, and the other is fat phantom sample which is composed of pure animal fat. And the ultrasound transmission mode and reflection mode experiments are performed on the pig's spleen, kidney and fat. As a result, it is found that the temperature characteristics are uniform in case of phan- tom samples but not in biological tissues because of complicate wave propagation within them. Consequently, the possibility of temperature measurement using ultrasound on biological tissue is confirmed and its results may contribute to the establishment of reference values of internal temperature measurement of biological tissues.

  • This paper presents the real-time implemented distance relay algorithm which the fault distance is estimated with only local terminal information. When a single-phase-to-earth fault on a two-parallel transmission line occurs, the reach accuracy of distance relay is considerably affected by the unknown variables which are fault resistance, fault current at the fault point and zero- sequence current of sound line The zero-sequence current of sound line is estimated by using the zero sequence voltage which is measured by relaying location Also. the fault resistance is removed at the Process of numerical formula expansion. Lastly, the fault current through a fault point is expressed as a function of the zero-sequence current of fault line, zero-sequence current of sound line, and line, and fault distance. Therefore, the fault phase voltage can be expressed as the quadratic equation of the fault distance. The solution of this Quadratic equation is obtained by using a coefficient of the modified quadratic equation instead of using the square root solution method. After tile accurate fault distance is estimated. the mote accurate impedance is measured by using such an information.

  • In this paper, sound transmission of Micro-Perforated Plates (MPPs) installed in an impedance tube with a circular cross-section is described using an analytic method. Vibration of the plates is expressed in terms of an infinite series of modal functions, where modal function in the radial direction is given by the Bessel function. Under the plane wave assumption, a low frequency approximation is derived, and a formula for the sound transmission coefficient of multi-layered MPPs is presented using the transfer matrix method. The Sound Transmission Losses (STLs) of single and double MPPs are computed using the proposed method and compared with those done by the Finite Element Method (FEM), which shows an excellent agreement. As the perforation increases, the STL is degraded, since the STL becomes dominated by the perforation ratio rather than by vibration of the plate. The STL shows dips at natural frequencies as well as at the mass-spring-mass resonance frequency. The proposed model for the STL prediction in this study can be applied to an arbitrary number of MPPs, where each MPP may or may not have a perforation.

  • It is very important to detect and evaluate the surface or subsurface flaws because of their influences on mechanical properties of materials. Rayleigh wave and creeping wave are commonly used for the detection of surface and subsurface flaws. These techniques, however, have following problems. Each amplitudes are remarkably affected by the surface condition and evaluation of echo pattern is usually difficult because shear wave mode propagate in the material at the same time. On the other hand, surface SH-wave which is horizontally polarized shear wave traveling along near surface layer is an attractive technique for the surface or subsurface material characterization and this technique is useful to solve the problems mentioned above. In this paper, The stability and transmission coefficient of SH waves through a viscous fluid layer is theoretically studied and simulated. Its results agreed well with the theoretical expectation for the experimental verification. These experimental results show that viscosity of couplants, thickness of couplant and surface roughness are closely related to transfer efficiency in surface SH angle beam method.

  • Eco-friendly material applied to building would be one of the materials which is must developed for global environmental conservation and reduction of carbon dioxide. For development of eco-friendly material, a cellulose sound-absorbing material has been developed with waste paper through adjustment of various mix proportions. The developed cellulose sound-absorbing material has been tested for its acoustic properties such as acoustic absorptivity and dynamic elastic modulus. The absorptivity was evaluated by developing six samples and using impedance tube and reverberation chamber. As a result of the evaluation, 0.64(NRC) was secured in absorptivity and $4.7MN/m^3$ was indicated in dynamic elastic modulus. Also, for practical use of developed sound-absorbing material as inner heartwood in drywall, comparison test of sound reduction index was performed with existing glass wool sound-absorbing material and constructed drywall of gybsum board. The results have shown 55dB(Rw) of sound reduction index in glass-wool wall and 46dB(Rw) in cellulose.
