The purpose of this study is to evaluate the difference of noise level according to noise measuring methods in the noisy working environments. Sound pressure level(SPL), equivalence sound level(Leq) and personal noise exposure dose(Dose) in the fifty-nine unit workplaces of the twenty-eight industries were measured and relating factors which were affected noise level were investigated. The results were as follows ; 1. The noise levels were $88.70{\pm}5.68dB(A)$ by SPL, $89.07{\pm}5.41dB(A)$ by Leq and $89.07{\pm}5.69$ by Dose. The differences of noise levels by three measuring methods were statistically significant(P<0.001) by repeated measure ANOV A. 2. Comparing with noise levels by general classes of noise exposure, noise levels of continuous noise were $89.14{\pm}5.19dB(A)$ by SPL, $89.45{\pm}4.65dB(A)$ by Leq and $90.04{\pm}5.09$ by Dose. Noise levels of intermittent noise were $87.90{\pm}6.52dB(A)$ by SPL, $88.40{\pm}6.63dB(A)$ by Leq and $90.10{\pm}6.80$ by Dose. The differences noise level of noise measuring methods by general classese of noise exposure were statistically not significant by repeated measure ANOV A. 3. Interaction between general classese of noise exposure and noise measuring methods for noise level was not statistically significant by repeated measure ANOVA. And the noise level by noise measuring methods were statistically significant by repeated measure ANOV A(P<.001) 4. Comparing with noise levels by unit workplace size, noise levels of large unit workplace were $90.73{\pm}5.87dB(A)$ by SPL, $91.32{\pm}5.50dB(A)$ by Leq and $91.82{\pm}6.06$ by Dose and noise levels of middle unit workplace were $88.31{\pm}5.26dB(A)$ by SPL, $88.41{\pm}4.83dB(A)$ by Leq and $89.69{\pm}5.05$ by Dose. And noise levels of small unit workplace were $94.89{\pm}4.10dB(A)$ by SPL, $85.35{\pm}4.11dB(A)$ by Leq and $86.87{\pm}4.98$ by Dose. The noise level differences of noise measuring methods by unit workplace size were statistically significant by repeated measure ANOV A(P<.05). 5. The noise level by noise measuring methods were statistically significant by repeated measure ANOV A(P<.001). But Interaction between workplace size and noise level measuring methods for noise level was not statistically significant by repeated measure ANOVA. According to the above results, there was a difference of the noise level among the three measuring methods. Therefore we must use the personal noise exposure dose using by noise dose meter, possible, to prvent occupational hearing loss in noisy working environment.
Floating floor is most commonly used at apartment houses in Korea for thermal insulation and reducing impact noise. But it in proven that the floating floor is not effective for reducing the floor impact noise in low frequency range. In most cases, impact sound pressure level under 63 Hz frequency band were actually increased by the resonance of resilient material, lightweight concrete and the finishing mortar installed on it. In this paper, an integrated floor system consist of 70 mm light weight concrete and 40 mm finishing mortar successively installed on the concrete slab was suggested to avoid the resonance. Integrated floor system increases total flexural stiffness and mass per unit area. The natural frequencies of first and second vibration mode were increased and acceleration response and floor impact sound level was decreased in all measurement range.
Low frequency heavy-weight impact noise is the most irritating noise in Korean high-rise reinforced concrete apartment buildings. This low frequency noise is generated by foot traffic due to the fact that Koreans do not wear shoes at home. The transmission of the noise is facilitated by a load bearing wall structural system without beams and columns which is used in these buildings. In order to control low frequency heavy-weight impact noise, floating floors using isolation materials such as glass-wool mat and poly-urethane mat are used. However, it was difficult to control low frequency heavy-weight impact sound using isolation material. In this study, reinforcement of concrete slab using beams and plate was conducted. Using the FEM analysis, the effect of concrete slab reinforcement using FRP(fiber-glass reinforced plastic) on the bang machine impact vibration acceleration level and sound were conducted at the standard floor impact sound test building. The $3{\sim}4dB$ floor impact vibration acceleration level and impact sound pressure level were reduced and the natural frequency of slabs were changed.
Unsteady flow characteristics and associated blade tonal noise of a cross-flow fan are predicted by a computational method. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are time-accurately solved for obtaining the pressure fluctuations between the rotating blades and the stabilizer, and sound pressure is predicted using Curie's equation. The computed fan performance is favorably compared with experimental data, and also indicates that the performance is not significantly altered by the random pitch effect at ${\phi}>0.4$. In the present study, the narrow-band noise characteristics of three impellers with a uniform and two random Pitch (type-A and-B) blades are compared by the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) spectra, and their frequency modulation characteristics of the BPF (Blade Passing Frequency) noise are also discussed.
A front-end cooling fan is designed and tested in the present study. The design technique is developed using the one-dimensional inviscid flow through the fan blade, the empirical equations, and the experimental correlations. Design data for the blade can be obtained for a given flow rate and a pressure rise. A parabolic function is used to generate a sweep of the fan. Characteristics of the blade geometry are discussed between the huh and the tip. The fan is tested in the fan test unit. The measured volume flow rate at the operating point is in good agreement with that of the design specifications. Sound pressure levels of the noise are predicted with the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equations. Calculation results of the sound pressure level(SPL) 1m away from the fan are obtained and cpmpared with the measured data.
The low frequency noise, including infra-sound is known to affect human physiology and psychology. Guidelines and measurement method of low frequency noise has been introduced in several countries in order to evaluate low frequency noise. In this work, low frequency characteristics of Daejeon subway was investigated in terms of the noise level and spectrum in the interior of running subway car and the subway station. The interior sound pressure level of the passenger car was between 60 and 102 dB in the frequency range of $1{\sim}250$ Hz.
Noise is one of the major environmental problems in human life. To reduce the noise emitted from the control valve it is necessary to develop the measurement method, measurement system, analysis method applicable to the field. In this study IEC and ISO standards were investigated and measurement method for the valve noise was proposed. Noise from the valve was measured in the reverberation room and sound power level was calculated. The sound power level increased as the flow rate and pressure difference increased. The noise characteristics are useful to predict valve noise for given conditions, to compare the performance of different valves and to develope low-noise valves.
To develop floor impact sound resilient materials of apartment house effectively, floor impact sound insulation performance test lab. was designed and constructed in T company. Introducing specification and basic performance of this lab. could be helpful in plan and design of another lab. Floor space size of this lab. is $4.2m{\times}5.5m$ and this size is similar with that of living room of usual apartment house's (about $100m^2$) and the height of lab. is 2.4m. Slab thickness is designed by 180mm. Frequency characteristics is similar to general apartment house. Reverberation time of sound receiving room displays 1.26sec in 125Hz by establishing sound-absorbing materials. For light weight impact sound insulation performance of concrete bare floor structure is estimated by $L_{i,AW}\;=\;73$ and for heavy weight is estimated by $L_{i,Fmax,AW}\;=\;50$. Sound pressure level distribution of sound receiving room is ranged very uniformly. With these results, floor impact sound resilient materials could be evaluated and the results could be trusted by comparison tests.
With the increasing the importance of emotional quality of vehicle, the sound quality of systems with electric motor components has become increasingly important. Electric motors are used for windows, seats, sun roof, mirrors, steering columns, windshield wiper, climate control blowers, etc. In this paper, a study was conducted to identify sound quality factors that contribute to customer's satisfaction and preference of the window lift system. Jury test for subjective evaluation was carried out and sound quality index was developed. Averaged sound pressure level and sharpness were significant factors when glass moves down. Also, maximum loudness at stop section and averaged loudness were significant factor when glass moves up. Noise source identification was carried out for the reduced the loudness and sharpness during glass transferred section and impulsive noise at stop section, Using the source identification result, several improvement points were applied. And finally, the degree of sound quality improvement was judged using sound quality index.
