  • In this paper, we describe an sound tracking mobile robot suitable for areas where GPS is not available. Sound sensors are attached to four sides of the robot in order to locate the person in a danger, and the robot is supposed to move to the yelling person. The traveling distance of the mobile robot is calculated by the encoder attached to the wheel of the mobile robot. The moving direction of the mobile robot is measured by a gyro sensor on the robot. When the person in danger pushes a button of the mobile robot, the mobile robot transmits the trajectory data to a designated server.

  • It is well known that fish hear a wide frequency range of sound using both laterial line and inner ear, and the sound is probably the most effective channel for long-range communication underwater than any other stimulus. The auditory threshold of svenband grouper, Epinephelus septem fasciatus was determined by conditioning method using a sound coupled with electric shock in a tank. The audio-signals and electric shock used in the experiment were pure tones of 100 to 1000Hz and DC 6n.The response of fish to the sound was observed by ECG intervals from precordial leads method (V1·V2 method). The auditory threshold curve for sevenband grouper was V-shaped, with most sensitive threshold at 350Hz in the range of 100~1000Hz. The Sevenband grouper were more sensitive to sounds of 200~400Hz than to adjacent frequencies.

  • In this study, simplified methods on measurement and evaluation of heavy-wight impact sound was proposed due to provide easy quality control method to construction engineers. The simplified methods include using of rubber impact ball instead of bang machine, reduced number of measuring and impact positions which is prescribed as over 4 points, using of hand-held sound level meter as a frequency analyser and prediction equation for $L_{i.Fmax.AW}$, single number rating, using $L_{Amax}$, and $L_{Lmax}$ at each frequency band. The results showed that a method of boundary driving and boundary measuring is the most similar to the current rating method.

  • A sound-masking technique was applied to the urban public spaces with multiple noises in order to reduce the annoyance of the construction and traffic noise. In addition, the effects of masking system were investigated in order to improve the soundscape. In several urban spaces, building construction and nearby road traffic noise were recorded using a head and torso simulator and sound quality (SQ) system which specifies the spectral and temporal aspects of the noises. The sound-masking system which consists of the distributed speakers and control devices was applied to the boundaries of the construction sites. Synthesized masking sounds were produced with consideration of SQ characteristics of the multiple noise. Subjective evaluations on the soundscape were conducted to verify effectiveness of the system under the conditions with and without the masker sounds.

  • Apartment housing is a widely-spread type in Korean housing market. Nevertheless, it has caused serious problems such as traditional community corruption, unsafe structure, defects and litigation from noise. Noise, especially in concrete structure for apartment housing, is hardly controlled in proper to prevent sound transmission between upper and lower families with existing system. In foreign countries, there are floating floor system to enhance the noise control performance in multi-family housing. This study is to examine the impact sound insulation performance of floors according to the different P'yong and Layers by field measurement in highrise building.

  • An automated calibration system of sound level meters was developed and tested. As a standard sound source, the speaker unit(Forstex FE208) cabineted by 440$\times$390$\times$490 $\textrm{mm}^3$(LHW) volume wood box was adopted. Including this source, the driving part was found out to have a good linearity of sound pressure output vs AC voltage input. The Hybrid-Bisect/Newton-Raphson method modified by the linearity was adopted as a searching algorithm. Uisng GPIB interface, the console PC make the control, measurements, and calculations and finally make the accumulation of useful data and results automatically by the instructon in the program coded by C languate. Several trials of automatic calibration using this developed system give the reliable results.

  • HRTF DB, including the information of the sounds which is arrived to our ears, is generally used to make a 3D sound. But it can decline some three-dimensional effects by the confusion between front and back directions due to the non-individual HRTF depending on each listener. In this paper, we propose a new method to use psychoacoustic theory that reduces the confusion of sound image localization. And we make use of an excitation energy by the sense of hearing. This method is brought HRTF spectrum characteristics into relief to draw out the energy ratio about the bark band and control low frequency band. Informal listening tests show that the proposed method improves the front-back sound localization characteristics much better than the conventional methods.

  • This research addresses sound command based human tracking problems for autonomous cleaning mobile robot in a networked AI space. To solve the problem, the difference among the traveling times of the sound command to each of three microphones has been used to calculate the distance and orientation of the sound from the cleaning mobile robot, which carries the microphone array. The cross-correlation between two signals has been applied for detecting the time difference between two signals, which provides reliable and precise value of the time difference compared to the conventional methods. To generate the tracking direction to the sound command, fuzzy rules are applied and the results are used to control the cleaning mobile robot in a real-time. Finally the experiment results show that the proposed algorithm works well, even though the mobile robot knows little about the environment.

  • On the basis of two premises and embodied cognition theory, the vibration tactile learning is proposed as an effective method for foreign language learning. The premises are: the real nature of language is sound and the source of sound is vibration. According to embodied cognition theory, cognition is inherently connected to bodily sensation rather than metaphysical and independent. As a result, the vibration tactile learning is: people are able to learn foreign language better by listening to sound and experiencing its vibration through touch rather than solely listening to sound. The effectiveness of vibration tactile learning is tested with two instructional media theories: media comparison and media attribute. For the comparison, an experiment is conducted with control and experimental groups. The attributes of vibration tactile media are investigated in points of relationships with the learning process. The experiment results indicate a small effect on the increased mean score. Three kinds of relationships are found between the media attribute and learning process: enforced stimulus, facilitated pronunciation, and assimilation of resonance to sound patterns through touch. Finally, this paper proposes a new theoretical development for instructional media research: an embodied cognition based media research and development.
