Background : Cepstral analysis which is obtained from Fourier transformation of spectrum has been known to be effective indicator to analyze the voice disorder. To evaluate the voice disorder, phonation of sustained vowel /a/ sound or continuous speech have been used but the former was limited to capture hoarseness properly. This study is aimed to compare the effectiveness in analysis of cepstrum between the sustained vowel /a/ sound and continuous speech. Methods : From March 2012 to December 2014, total 72 patients was enrolled in this study, including 24 unilateral vocal cord palsy, vocal nodule and vocal polyp patients, respectively. The entire patient evaluated their voice quality by VHI (Voice Handicap Index) before and after treatment. Phonation of sustained vowel /a/ sample and continuous speech using the first sentence of autumn paragraph was subjected by cepstral analysis and compare the pre-treatment group and post-treatment group. Results : The measured values of pre and post treatment in CPP-a (cepstral peak prominence in /a/ vowel sound) was 13.80, 13.91 in vocal cord palsy, 16.62, 17.99 in vocal cord nodule, 14.19, 18.50 in vocal cord polyp respectively. Values of CPP-s (cepstral peak prominence in text-based speech) in pre and post treatment was 11.11, 12.09 in vocal cord palsy, 12.11, 14.09 in vocal cord nodule, 12.63, 14.17 in vocal cord polyp. All 72 patients showed subjective improvement in VHI after treatment. CPP-a showed statistical improvement only in vocal polyp group, but CPP-s showed statistical improvement in all three groups (p<0.05). Conclusion : In analysis of cepstrum, text-based analysis is more representative in voice disorder than vowel sound speech. So when the acoustic analysis of voice by cepstrum, both phonation of sustained vowel /a/ sound and text based speech should be performed to obtain more accurate result.
Results of the numerical simulation and experimental data analysis for identification of mode cutoff frequency and estimation of sound speed of seabed from the spectrum of acoustic signal received at fixed source-receiver range are presented. Model simulations for Pekeris waveguide show that the frequency-dependent propagation loss and interference pattern are closely related to mode cutoff frequencies and it could be possible to the identify them from the changes of interference pattern. The concept considered at numerical simulations is applied to signals acquired at sea test. Cutoff frequency and sound speed of seabed are estimated from the interference pattern of measured signal. Propagation loss predicted using the estimated sound speed of seabed as model input parameter shows similar estimation result compared to propagation loss derived from measured data.

Alveolar fricative sounds /s/ and /s'/ are learned last for normal children in the speech development process for Koreans. These are especially difficult to articulate for hearing-impaired children often causing articulation errors. The acoustic phonetic evaluation uses testing tools to provide indirect and object information. These objective resources can be compared with standardized resources on speech when interpreting the results of a test. However, most previous studies in Korea did not consider acoustic studies that used the spectrum moment values of hearing-impaired children. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare the characteristics of hearing-impaired children's pronunciation of fricative sounds using spectrum moment values. For this purpose, the study selected a total of 10 hearing-impaired children (5 boys and 5 girls) currently in 3rd or 5th grade and attending one of the elementary schools in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do. For the selection process, their age, type of hearing aid, implantation of hearing aid (CI) before two years of age, hearing capacity (dB) before and after wearing the hearing aid, duration of speech rehabilitation, and time of learning alveolar fricative sounds were all considered. Also, 10 normal children (5 boys and 5 girls) were selected among 3rd or 5th grade students attending one of the elementary schools in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do. The subjects were asked to read the carrier sentence, "I say _______," including a list of 12 meaningless syllables composed of CV and VCV syllables, including alveolar fricative sounds /s/ and /s'/ and vowels /a/, /i/, and /u/. The recorded resources were processed through the Time-frequency Analysis Software Program to measure M1 (mean), M2 (variance), M3 (skewness), and M4 (kurtosis) of the fricative noise. No significant differences were found when comparing spectrum threshold values in the acoustic phonetic characteristics of hearing-impaired children and normal children in alveolar fricative sound pronunciation according to vowels /a/, /i/, and /u/, alveolar fricative sounds /s/ and /s'/, and syllable structure (CV, VCV) other than, for M3 in the comparison of groups according to disability. In the comparison of syllable structures, there were statistically significant differences in M1, M2, M3, and M4 with clinical significance. However, there was no significant difference in results when comparing the alveolar fricative sounds according to the vowels.

An industrial robot noise has various noise sources such as gears, motors, bearings, and controller fans. Among these, gears are the most dominant source for noise. The gear noise, caused by tooth profile, elastic deformation, machining error and wear, is directly correlated with the transmission error of mating gear. Due to the fact that has several axis and many gears, it is difficult to understand the characteristics of the vibration and noise of robots. In this study, some advanced analysis techniques based on digital signal processing such as power spectrum, time spectral map, RPM map, and etc., were applied for locating the dominant frequency components of the robot noises and identifying their sources. In addition, sound quality analysis was performed in order to evaluate the operator's annoyance. The noise and vibration measurements were carried out at several points during the operation of each axis considering the effect of load and posture of the robot. Eased on the results, proper countermeasures to reduce excessive noise level have been suggested considering the characteristics of sources.

In this study, an online seed potato sorting system using a visible and near infrared (40 1100 nm) transmittance spectral technique and statistical model was evaluated for the nondestructive determination of infected and sound seed potatoes. Seed potatoes that had been artificially infected with Pectobacterium atrosepticum, which is known to cause a soil borne disease infection, were prepared for the experiments. After acquiring transmittance spectra from sound and infected seed potatoes, a determination algorithm for detecting infected seed potatoes was developed using the partial least square discriminant analysis method. The coefficient of determination($R^2_p$) of the prediction model was 0.943, and the classification accuracy was above 99% (n = 80) for discriminating diseased seed potatoes from sound ones. This online sorting system has good potential for developing a technique to detect agricultural products that are infected and contaminated by pathogens.
In this paper, we suggest that the new volume of robust audio watermarking method protects form the MP3 compression attack, mostly used in audio field. Watermarks were inserted at the coefficients repeatedly from low frequencies to high frequencies after DCT transform in commonly used Cox's spread spectrum method. However, our method could be investigated losing frequency when MP3 attacks and make order by small amount of losing frequency and then insert watermarks rightly through statistical analysis. In the result about various sound clips, the suggested method have better performances than Cox's method by preserving watermarks and reducing distortions of the original sounds.
The hermetic rotary compressor is one of the most important components of an air conditioning system since it has a great effect on both the performance and the noise and vibration of the system. Noise and vibration occurs due to gas pulsation during the compression process and to unbalanced dynamic force. In order to reduce noise and vibration, it is necessary to identify their sources and transmission path and effectively control them. Many approaches have been tried in order to identify the noise transmission path of a compressor. However, identification has proven to be difficult since the characteristics of compressor noise are complicated due to the interaction of the compressor parts and gas pulsation. In this study, the statistical energy analysis has been used to trace the energy flow in the compressor and to identify the transmission paths from the noise source to the exterior sound field.
The analysis of heart sounds is a noninvasive diagnostic method useful to diagnose heart valve function. In this paper we compared the ability of spectral analysis method for prosthetic heart valve sounds. Phonocardiograms of prosthetic heart valve were analyzed in order to derive frequency domain feature suitable for the classification of the valve state. The FFT-based methods did not provide sufficient frequency resolution to completely characterize the spectrum of prosthetic heart valve sounds. A high resolution parametric methods were shown to give superior frequency resolution. In parametric methods, all methods provide a 1st & 2nd & 3rd frequency component. But Shank method provided a most dominant frequency peak.

Impulsive acoustic and vibration signals within gear are often induced by impacting of fault tooths in gear. Thus the detection of these impulses can be useful for fault diagnosis. Recently there is an increasing trend towards the use of higher order statistics for fault detection within mechanical systems based on the observation that impulsive signals then to increase the kurtosis values. We show that the fourth order Wigner Moment Spectrum, called the Wigner Trispectrum, has found superior detection performance to second order Wigner distribution for typical impulsive signals in a condition monitoring application. These methods are also applied to data sets measured within an industrial gear box.

This paper reports on the research which investigates acoustic signals acquired in progressive compressing, hole blanking, shearing and burr compacting process. The work piece is the head pin of the electric connector, whose raw material is the preformed steel bar. An acoustic sensor was set on the bed of hydraulic press. Because the acquired signals include the dynamic characteristics generated for all the processes, it is required to investigate signal characteristics corresponding to unit process. The corresponding dynamic characteristics to the respective process were first studied by analyzing the signals respectively acquired from compressing, blanking and compacting process. The combined signals were then periodically analyzed from the grinding to the grinding in the sound frequency domain and in the ultrasonic wave. The frequency of around 9 kHz in the sound frequency domain was much correlated to the tool wear. The characteristic frequency in the acoustic emission domain between 100 kHz and 500 kHz was not only clearly observed right after tool grinding but its amplitude was also related to the wear. The frequency amplitudes of 160 kHz and 320 kHz were big enough to be classified by the noise. The noise amplitudes are getting bigger, and their energy was much bigger as coming to the next regrinding. The signal analysis was based on the real time data and its frequency spectrum by Fourier Transform. As a result, the acousto-ultrasonic signals were much related to the tool wear progression.
