  • Cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanoparticles with the diameter of about 3.4nm have been synthesized from the mixed aqueous solution of distilled water and diethanolamine at room temperature. The cadmium chloride ($CdCl_2$), sodium selenosulfate ($Na_2SeSO_3$) were used as the cadmium and selenium source, respectively. The properties of CdSe nanoparticles were characterized by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-Vis measurements. CdSe nanoparticles were analyzed to be cubic phase with the absorption excition peaks between 540 and 600 nm. CdSe nanoparticles also showed red-shifted excition peaks with increasing the sonication time. This paper mainly presents the sonication effects on the formation of CdSe nanoparticles prepared from the mixed aqueous solution of distilled water and diethanolamine.

  • A new precursor [$Zr(acac)_{3}(H_{2}O)_{2}$] was synthesized by Sonochemical technique and used to deposit thin $ZrO_{2}$ film on quartz and ceramic substrate via ultrasonic aerosol assisted chemical vapour deposition (UAACVD) at 300 ${^{\circ}C}$ in oxygen environment followed by annealing of the sample for 2-3 minutes at 500 ${^{\circ}C}$ in nitrogen ambient. The molecular structure of the precursor determined by single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the molecules are linked through intermolecular hydrogen bonds forming pseudo six and eight membered rings. DSC and TGA/FTIR techniques were used to determine thermal behavior and decomposition temperature of the precursor and nature of evolved gas products. The optical measurement of annealed $ZrO_{2}$ film with tetragonal phase shows optical energy band gap of 5.01 eV. The particle size, morphology, surface structure and composition of deposited films were investigated by XRD, SEM and EDX.

  • $CuInS_{2}$ nanoparticles were synthesized by a simple sonochemical method; First, Cu nanoparticles were prepared from $CuInS_{2}$ in methanol solution by a one pot reaction through the sonochemistry under multibubble sonoluminescence (MBSL) conditions. Second, the resulting Cu nanoparticles were treated with $InCl_3{\cdot}4H_2O$ and $CH_3CSNH_2$ (thioacetamide) at the same MBSL conditions to synthesize $In_2S_3$-coated Cu nanoparticles in methanol solution. Then, they were transformed into $CuInS_{2}$ (CIS) nanoparticles of 20 $\sim$ 40 nm size in diameter by thermal heating at 300 ${^{\circ}C}$ for 2 hr. The prepared CIS nanoparticles, of which band gap is 1.44 eV, were investigated by X-ray diffractometer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, inductively coupled plasma spectrometer, and high resolution-transmission electron microscope.

  • $LiCoO_2$, a cathode material for lithium rechargeable batteries, was prepared in a nanoscale through a simple sonochemistry. First, $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles were prepared by reacting NaOH and $CoCl_2$ or $CoSO_4$ with a sonochemical method, operated at 20 kHz and 220 W for 20 min, very powerful multibubble sonoluminescence conditions for chemical reactions. Second, LiOH was coated onto the $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles by the same method as above. Finally, $LiCoO_2$ nanoparticles of about 10~30 nm size in diameter were obtained by the thermal treatment of the resulting LiOH-coated $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles at $500^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr. This synthetic process is relatively quite mild and simple compared to the known method for the synthesis of $LiCoO_2$ nanoparticles. The materials synthesized were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma spectrometer, and high resolution-transmission electron microscopy analyses.

  • Flower-like zinc oxide (FZnO) was successfully synthesized via a sonochemical process. The chemical structure, morphology, and antimicrobial properties of as- prepared FZnO were investigated. Additionally, pure LDPE and five different LDPE/FZnO composite films were prepared with different FZnO content by using a twin screw extruder. According to the FTIR and SEM analyses, there exists weak interfacial interaction between LDPE and FZnO. Compared with pure LDPE, the LDPE/FZnO composite films showed UV barrier and enhanced antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) as a Gram-negative micro-organism and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) as a Gram-positive micro-organism. To enhance the interfacial interaction and good dispersion of FZnO into the LDPE matrix, and resultantly to such as UV barrier and antimicrobial properties of LDPE/FZnO composite films as the packaging materials, further efforts are required.

  • $Ag_2Se$-Graphene/$TiO_2$ composite was synthesized by a facile sonochemical method. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer. During the reaction, both of the reduction of graphene oxide and loading of $Ag_2Se$ and $TiO_2$ particles were achieved. The as-prepared $Ag_2Se$-Graphene/$TiO_2$ composites possessed great adsorptivity of dyes, extended light absorption range, and efficient charge separation properties simultaneously. Hence, in the photodegradation of rhodamine B (Rh.B), a significant enhancement in the reaction rate was observed with $Ag_2Se$-Graphene/$TiO_2$ composites, compared to the pure $TiO_2$. The high activity can be attributed to the synergetic effects of high charge mobility, and red shift in absorption edge of $Ag_2Se$-Graphene/$TiO_2$ composites.

  • We have successfully synthesized $AgInS_2$ core and $AgInS_2$/ZnS core/shell nanoparticles by the sonochemical method. The ultrasonic based $AgInS_2$ and $AgInS_2$/ZnS nanoparticle synthesis can be utilized as a simple and rapid method. The $AgInS_2$/ZnS nanoparticles show the higher fluorescence intensity and quantum yield than $AgInS_2$ nanoparticles. Fluorescence wavelength of $AgInS_2$/ZnS shows blue shift from 635 nm to 610 nm against $AgInS_2$ because of reducing the defect sites and increasing spatial confinements. For the fluorescence lifetime, $AgInS_2$/ZnS (124.8 ns) has longer lifetime than $AgInS_2$ (54.8 ns).

  • Indium and gallium have emerged as useful metals in organic synthesis as a result of its intriguing chemical properties of reactivity, selectivity, and low toxicity. Although indium belongs to a main metal in group 13, its first ionization potential energy is very low and stable in H2O and O2. Therefore, indium-mediated organic reactions are of our current interest. On the basis of these properties of indium, many efficient indium-mediated organic reactions have been recently developed, such as the addition reactions of allylindium to carbonyl and iminium groups, the indium-mediated synthesis of 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)homoallenylsilanes, the indiummediated allylation of keto esters with allyl halides, sonochemical Reformatsky reaction using indium, the indium-mediated selective introduction of allenyl and propargyl groups at C-4 position of 2-azetidinones, the indium-mediated Michael addition and Hosomi-Sakurai reactions, the indium-mediated β-allylation, β- propargylation and β-allenylation onto α,β-unsaturated ketones, the highly efficient 1,4-addition of 1,3-diesters to conjugated enones by indium and TMSCl, and the intramolecular carboindation reactions. Also, we found gallium-mediated organic reactions such as addition reactions of propargylgallium to carbonyl group and regioselective allylgallation of terminal alkynes.

  • In this paper, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were synthesized using the sonochemical method, where equimolar amounts of zinc acetate dehydrate and sodium hydroxide were separately dissolved in deionized water, and then mixed for 30 min under magnetic stirring. The resultant white gel was sonicated for 60, 120, 180, 240, and 360 min with magnetic stirring. The obtained precipitates were centrifuged, repeatedly washed with ethanol to remove ionic impurities, and dried at 50 ℃ for 24 h. The formation of pure NPs was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, and their crystallinity and crystal phases were analyzed as well. Structural investigation was carried out by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The photocatalysis behavior of the ZnO NPs was investigated in a dark room under UV irradiation, using Rhodamine B. Spherical, rod, and flower-like ZnO NPs could be obtained by adjusting the sonication time, as observed by FE-SEM. The flower-like ZnO NPs exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity.

  • Tageteserecta flower like zinc oxide nanostructures composed of hexagonal nanorods were synthesized via sonochemical method at room temperature. The synthesized nanomaterials exhibited wurtzite hexagonal phase structure with the single crystalline nature. The diameter of the individual nanorods that constitute the flower shaped zinc oxide structures is in the range of 120-160 nm. The sonication time effectively determined the morphological properties of the prepared materials. The catalytic activity of prepared zinc oxide nanostructures towards N-formylation reactions were evaluated without any surface modification and the nanostructures exhibited good reaction yield with the prompt recyclability behavior.
