  • Paint must be resistant to the wear and tear of the atmosphere and should maintain its color and finish for a long time. The solvents of paints were organic solvent and water, common artificial source of VOCs(Volatile organic Solvent) include organic solvent. Using of organic solvent paint was decreased in the interior parts of automotive, exterior parts were still used organic solvent paint. Adhesive strength of water-paint was poor to compare with organic solvent paint and peeled off from the base materials, it was big quality problem. In this study, adhesive characteristics of water-paint and silane mixture was investigated. To improve adhesive strength of water-paint, it was necessary to mixing of adhesive material. Adhesive strength was measured using UTM(Universal Test Instrument) by ASTM D1002 and Peeling off condition was by ASTM D3359. Optimal mixing condition of water-paint and silane adhesive were $25^{\circ}C$, 500rpm, 20min., concentration of silane adhesive was 5 wt%.

  • There are many studies to create realistic paint effects and the research area still has attracted attention in these days. However, the consideration for the characteristics of the real paint effects from the point of viewers is not enough. In this paper, we extract the important paint features and survey the importance values. Based on the survey results, we suggest a new paint system. The paint system utilizes the paint simulation that reflects viscoelasticity and mixing suggested by You et al. (2013) and proposes the paint rendering method that represents the details of a paint, a solvent, and pigments. We survey the quality of our results and prove that our paint system is superior to the previous studies.

  • Paint is used as top coat in Automobile Refinishing that is divided into 1K paint of base type and 2K paint of urethane type. after using 1K paint, it can be reusable. However 2K paint is not available that is mixed a certain amount of base with hardner, so 2K paint has to be used all at a time or discarded the rest. This study covered that colored Urethane paint and colorless urethane paint in top coating process of AR. Top coat urethane paint is divided into colored urethane paint and transparent urethane paint like clear coat. Colored urethane paint is used for paint that contains resin, pigment, solvent and additives. It is color such as black and white. While transparent urethane paint is used for paint that contains resin, solvent and additives. Urethane paint has a paint system that cur after several hours of mixing base and hardner. By a paint technician of a field and empirical data, we can also recognize that according to worker's paint style and experience, although he or she paint same car model and area, paint use of one's is different. There aren't guidelines workers refer to about paint use by car models and work scope because ARP works various car models that are in different color, size and area. After using urethane paint, the rest of paint has come, and there are highs and lows in paint use each time he or she works. Therefore, this study suggest a basic guideline to use paint efficiently and regularly by understanding area, the type of work, and paint use that are appropriate for each car model and regardless of workers and work scopes in AR.

  • In order to recycle the waste bumper, techniques removing coated paint on a bumper is crucial. Chemical methods are known to be much more effective in removing the paint compared to physical methods. However, the chemical methods generally use toxic solvents and consequently cause environmental pollution. In this study, we tested a new method which combines the chemical and physical method to reduce the amount of solvent and increase the paint removal efficiency. We found that mechanical stirring increases the paint removal efficiency in soaking stage of solvent. When solid particles as a stress transfer media are incorporated into the solvent and high mechanical stirring is applied, the paint removal efficiency is very high. It was proved that the combined method can accomplish high level of the paint removal efficiency maintaining low amount of solvent consumed.

  • Solvent-free paint is sprayed from higher-pressure conditions, because the viscosity is large. The hydraulic actuator which can be operated under higher-pressure condition is required to spray solvent-free paints in painting process for the environmental protection. The purpose of this paper is to develop the hydraulic actuator under higher-pressure conditions for solvent-free paint spraying system. The hydraulic actuator consists of inner spool, outer spool and ball. The analysis of a structural stability was conducted by using ANSYS V11 under the design condition of upward and downward movement of spool. As a result, the maximum von-Mises stress applied on spool under 4mm displacement showed a value of 106MPa which was greater than the allowable stress of the spool with a value of 250MPa and a value of safety factor 3. This result suggested that the spool system be unstable under the design condition so that it was necessary for the spool system to be reinforced to secure the structural stability.

  • During automotive painting, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) associated with the paint solvents are emitted to the atmosphere. Most VOC emissions come from spraying operations via the use of solvent-based paints, as the spraybooth air picks up gaseous solvent compounds and overspray paint materials. The VOCs consist of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, alcohols, and glycolethers. Most VOCs (some hydrophilic VOCs are captured and retained in the water.) are captured by an adsorption system and thermally oxidized. In this paper, the processes involved in automotive painting and in VOC control are reviewed. The topics include: painting operations (briefly), the nature of VOCs, VOC-control processes (adsorption, absorption, biological removal, and thermal oxidation) and energy recovery from VOCs using a fuel reformer and a fuel cell, and the beneficial use of paint sludge.

  • This study is about emission characteristics of HAPs and particulate matters emitted by spray of paint and organic solvent usually used in vehicle paint facilities. To analyze emission characteristics of HAPs and particulate matters emitted from vehicle paint facilities are calculated based on the measuring emission quantity of pollutants based on the amount of paint used (kg) and unit area ($m^2$) by paint manufacturers (J company, K company, and R company). In cases of paint manufacturers (J, K, and R), average emission factors of VOCs, carbonyl compound, particulate matter, and PAHs per 1 kg of paint were 327.81 g/kg, 5.98 g/kg, 336.70 g/kg, and 0.0078 g/kg respectively. The average emission factors of VOCs, carbonyl compounds, particulate matters, and PAHs by unit area were $171.55g/m^2$, $3.10g/m^2$, $176.27g/m^2$, and $0.0036g/m^2$ respectively.

  • The purpose of this work was to document the conditions regarding organic solvent exposure to the workers in paint industry. Air concentrations of organic solvents were measured by passive personal samplers and analyzed by a gas chromatography. Urine samples for hippuric test were also taken from 330 workers who have worked at seven domestic factories for more than two years. Amongst 25 organic elements detected in the indoor environment of working places, toluene was the most common element, and methanol showed the highest mean concentration(18.2ppm). A few elements including methylethyl ketone and toluene partially exceeded the Korean Permissible Exposure Limit. A lack of environmental facilities such as exhaust ventilation, automatic cleaning system, and personal safety devices at present work plaus brings about various occupational diseases.

  • This research was carried out focusing on the urgent treatment and related studies for paint scribbling on Samjeondobi Monument (Historic Sites No. 101) in 2007. Before the preliminary test, the paint lacquer used on the surface of Samjeondobi Monument was analyzed. The paint lacquer turned out to be the paint lacquer spray composed of $Pb_3O_4$ used for the red pigment in the market. It was proved that the poultice used with the organic solvent was the best way to remove the paint pollutants following the preliminary test for the removal of paint pollutants which was performed with various removal methods by the laser, etc. However, the removing the paint pollutants was found in difficulty in contrast to the preliminary tests because the paint on the spot was hardened so rapidly over time that there was difference from the situation of the laboratory. For that problem, the poultice method with ethylene dichloride of main component from Remover (goods in the market) was the most efficient, therefore the pollutants were removed with the solution of alkyds resin and nitrocellulose and the rest part was removed by the $Laponite^{(R)}$ RD.
