Li-air batteries have a promising future for because of their high energy density, which could theoretically be equal to that of gasoline. However, substantial Li-air cell performance limitations exist, which are related to the air cathode. The cell discharge products are deposited on the surfaces of the porous carbon materials in the air electrode, which blocks oxygen from diffusing to the reaction sites. Hence, the real capacity of a Li-air battery is determined by the carbon air electrode, especially by the pore volume available for the deposition of the discharged products. In this study, a simple and fast method is reported for the large-scale synthesis of carbon nanoballs (CNBs) consisting of a highly mesoporous structure for Li-air battery cathodes. The CNBs were synthesized by the solution plasma process from benzene solution, without the need for a graphite electrode for carbon growth. The CNBs so formed were then annealed to improve their electrical conductivity. Structural characterization revealed that the CNBs exhibited both an pore structure and high conductivity.
We study the solution of truncated series of Lee Sang-hyeog with the aspect of visualization. Lee Sang-hyeog solved a problem of truncated series by 4 ways: Shen Kuo' series method, splitting method, difference sequence method, and Ban Chu Cha method. As the structure and solution of truncated series in tertiary number is already clarified with algebraic symbols in some previous research, we express and explain it by visual representation. The explanation and proof of algebraic symbols about truncated series is clear in mathematical aspects; however, it has a lot of difficulties in the aspects of understanding. In other words, it is more effective in the educational situations to provide algebraic symbols after the intuitive understanding of structure and solution of truncated series with visual representation.

Dialysis is the rate-limiting step in the preparation of aqueous silk fibroin (SF) solution. However, the traditional practice of dialyzing SF solution for at least 48 h to remove LiBr is not based on empirical evidence. The aim of the present study was to systematically measure LiBr content in SF solutions dialyzed for varying lengths of time and assess the potential toxicity of residual lithium ions in cells. Complete removal of lithium ions was not achieved even after 72 h of dialysis, with a residual lithium ion content in the solution of 22.85 mg/l. SF films prepared from solutions dialyzed for 8 and 24 h had predominantly random coil or b-sheet structures, respectively. The residual lithium had little cytotoxicity in NIH3T3 fibroblast cells, but viability was compromised in cells grown on SF film prepared from solution dialyzed for 24 h.
This paper proposes a differential structure sensor for detecting Ringer's solution exhaustion, in which three C-type electrodes of 10 mm width are disposed on a ringer hose at a distance of 5 mm each other in the direction of Ringer's solution flow. In the center of middle electrode, two capacitances are formed at the proposed sensor. When ringer hose is filled with Ringer's solution, there is no difference between two capacitances. But capacitance difference exist under the Ringer's solution shortage, because the shortage causes the hose filled with air from the top position electrode. The capacitance difference got to maximum 1.81 pF, when air was filled between top and middle electrode and the last of hose was filled with 10 % dextrose injection Ringer's solution. The capacitance difference varied with hose-wraparound coverage of electrodes as well as the width of them. For hose-wraparound electrode coverage of 90 % and 70 %, the maximum capacitance difference was 1.81 pF and 1.56 pF, respectively. A differential charge amplifier converted the capacitance difference to electric signal, and minimized electrodes' adhering problem and external noise coupling problem.
Hydrodynamic characteristic of surfactant drag-reducing flows is still not fully understood. This work investigated the temperature and diameter effect on hydrodynamic characteristic of cationic surfactant drag reducing flows in pipes. Solution of oleyl bishydroxyethyl methyl ammonium chloride (Ethoquad O/12), 900 ppm, as a cationic surfactant and sodium salicylate (NaSal), 540 ppm, as a counter-ion was tested at 12, 25, 40, and $50^{\circ}C$ in pipes with diameter of 13, 25, and 40 mm. Drag reduction effectiveness of this surfactant solution was evaluated in 25 mm pipe from 6 to $75^{\circ}C$. Rheological characteristic of this solution was measured by stress control type rheometer with cone-and-plate geometry. Scale-up laws proposed by previous investigators were used to evaluate the flow characteristic of the solution. It was found that this surfactant solution has clear DR capability until $70^{\circ}C$. Result of this work suggested that temperature has a significant influence in changing the hydrodynamic entrance length of surfactant drag reducing flows. From rheological measurement, it was found that the solution exhibits Shear Induced Structure at all temperatures with different degree of peak viscosity and critical shear rate.
In this study copper chloride(CuCl$_2$) solution was used as raw material to produce the fine copper oxide powder which has less than 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ average particle size and has uniform particle size distribution by spray pyrolysis process. In the present study, the effects of reaction temperature, the injection speed of solution and air, the nozzle tip size and the concentration of raw material solution on the properties of produced powder were studied. The structure of the powder became much more compact with increasing the reaction temperature regardless of copper concentration of the raw material solution. The particle size of the powder increased accordingly with increasing the reaction temperature in case of 30 g/$\ell$ copper concentration of the solution. The particle size of the powder increased accordingly, and the surface structure of the powder became more porous with increasing the copper concentration of the raw material solution. When copper concentration in raw material solution was more than 100 g/$\ell$, all produced powder was CuCl regardless of reaction temperatures. When copper concentration in solution was below 30 g/$\ell$ and reaction temperature was higher than 90$0^{\circ}C$, CuO was the main phase. The surface of the powder tended to become porous with increasing the injection speed of solution. Particle size was increased and the surface of the powder showed severely disrupted state with increasing the nozzle tip size. The particle size was decreased and the particle size distribution was more uniform with increasing the air pressure through the nozzle.
This study was to refined the crystal structure of solid solution to determine the position and amount of Al in diopside and to relate crystal structure changes and properties of solid solution. Single crystals of the solid solution in the system CaO.MgO.$2 SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ were made from the melt with slow cooling and used to refine the structure. The following were obtained. 1. Tetrahedra rotated around axis parallel to the direction which the angle 03-03-03 became small. 2. Tetrahedron became large and regular. Average T-O bond distance increased 0.53 percent. 3. M1 octahedron became small and average M1-O bond distance decreased 1.1 percent. 4, M2 polyhedron became small and average M2-O bond distance decreased 0.37 percent Polythedron was affected not so much compared with any cation site. 5. Distance between metal ions distances between T and oxygens which were coordinated with M2 and meighboring tetrahedron distances between M2 and oxygens which coordinated with M1 and M2 were not changed almost. 6. $Al^{3+}$ substituted 4Mg^{2+}$ and $Si^{4+}$

The high resolution solution structure of MCP-3 was determined using multinuclear, multidimensional NMR spectroscopy with an expressed and $^{13}C-\;and\;^{15}N-labeled$ protein. The MCP-3 has a typical chemokine fold including 3 anti-parallel $\beta-sheets$, and a C-terminal helix, but it exists as a monomer in solution under the conditions where the structure was determined (2 mM, pH 5.1 at $30^{\circ}C$). Based on the structure and the amino acid sequence compared to other chemokines we propose that Ile20 and Leu25 in MCP-3 play key roles in the formation of N-loop (residues between the $2^{nd}$ cysteine and the I sheet) which has been implicated as a determinant of chemokine specificity. Additional receptor binding surface is supplied by the 40s loop (residues between the 2 and the 3 sheet) and the binding interface of the acidic N-terminal region of chemokine receptor to MCP-3 would resemble the dimerization interface of CC type dimer.
The structural dynamics (SD) behavior of Elastic Flapping Wings (EFWs) is investigated analytically as a novel approach in EFWs analysis. In this regard an analytical SD solution of EFW undergoing a prescribed rigid body motion is initially derived, where the governing equations are expressed in modal space. The inertial forces are also analytically computed utilizing the actuator induced acceleration effects on the wing structure, while due to importance of analytical solution the linearity assumption is also considered. The formulated initial-value problem is solved analytically to study the EFW structural responses, where the effect of structure-actuator frequency ratio, structure-flapping frequency ratio as well as the structure damping ratio on the EFW pick amplitude is analyzed. A case study is also simulated in which the wing is modeled as an elastic beam with shell elements undergoing a prescribed sinusoidal motion. The corresponding EFW transient and steady response in on-off servo behavior is investigated. This study provides a conceptual understanding for the overall EFW SD behavior in the presence of inertial forces plus the servo dynamics effects. In addition to the substantial analytical results, the study paves a new mathematical way to better understanding the complex role of SD in dynamic EFWs behavior. Specifically, similar mathematical formulations can be carried out to investigate the effect of aerodynamics and/or gravity.

The cut tree approach of Montreuil and Ratliff [16] and eigenvector approach [10] are used to automatically draw a feasible facility layout with aisle structure. The department arrangement can minimize an aisle distance criterion considering door locations and dimension constraints. The aisle distance is measured by the door to door distance between departments. An eigenvector and cut tree approaches [1] are implemented based on the branch and bound technique in Kim et al. [2] in order to obtain feasible layouts. Then, the algorithm to fix the door location of each department is developed. After the door locations are determined, the factory layout is evaluated in terms of aisle distance. The aisle structure is obtained by expanding the original layout. The solution is kept until we will find better factory layout. The proposed approach based on the branch and bound technique, in theory, will provide the optimal solution. If the runs are time and/or node limited, the proposed method is a strong heuristic. The technique is made further practical by the fact that the solution is constrained such that the rectangular shape dimensions length(l) and width(w) are fixed and a perfect fit is generated if a fit is possible.
