Baker's yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae) was used as a biocatalyst for eco-friendly indigo dyeing and the reducing power of yeast according to the alkaline solution type was compared. NaOH solution, lye, and buffer solution were used as alkaline solutions. The reducing power(K/S value, oxidation/reduction potential(ORP), pH) was monitored according to the elapsed time including the initiation of reduction, peak reduction, and the end of reduction. In all alkaline solutions, it was confirmed that yeast can be used reducing agent in indigo reduction dyeing. The pH stability and reducing power of buffer solution was better than that of NaOH alone. Although, pH and ORP stability of the reduction bath in lye were better than that of buffer solution, K/S value in buffer solution was higher compared to lye. The reducing power was different depending on the starting pH of the dye bath, and it was better when starting at pH 10.70 than at pH 11.30. Fastnesses to washing, rubbing, and light were relatively good with above rating 4. There was no significant difference in colorfastness depending on the type of alkaline solutions.

The turbulent flow resistance of water solution with polymer is reduced as compared with that of pure water. This effects is named th drag reduction and offers the significant reduction of the pumping power and the energy consumption. But the intense shear forces and the high temperature experienced by the polymer solution when passing through the pipes cause the degradation a loss of drag reduction effectiveness. Especially, the degradation behavior is found to be strongly dependent on temperature. This mechanical and thermal degradation can be avoided by adding materials such as surfactant to the polymer solution, which enhance the bonding force between molecules. In the present study, Copolymer and SDS were utilized and they were mixed in 10 different mixture ratios, while total concentration was fixed as 100wppm. Degradation of Copolymer-SDS mixture solutions was investigated experimentally in closed loop at the temperature of $10^{\circ}C\; and\; 80^{\circ}C$ with various flow average velocities of 1.5 m/sec, 3.0m/sec, and 4.5m/sec. Degradation characteristics of polymer solution without surfactant show a radical loss of drag reduction effectiveness at high temperature. Degradation alleviation ability of surfactant is especially effective at high temperature. Consequently, this results show that the addition of surfactant to the polymer solution can control unfavorable degradation phenomena for high temperature systems.

An experimental study has been carried out as a basic research for development of the friction drag reduction technology for ships by polymer injection. Experimental apparatus and procedures have been devised and prepared to measure the changes of the wall friction with injection of a polymer solution and basic experimental data on the friction drag reduction are obtained for a turbulent fiat-plate boundary layer and fully-developed channel flows. Variations of the friction drag reduction with some important parameters of polymer injection, such as the concentration of polymer solution, its injection flow rate and the measuring position downstream from the injection slot, are also investigated. Important experimental data and results obtained in the present study are presented. The amount of friction drag reduction up to 50% is observed.
Experiments on friction drag reduction by injecting polymer (Polyethylene oxide) solution or micro-bubbles were carried out in the cavitation tunnel of KRISO. Two different drag reduction mechanisms were applied to a slender axi-symmetric body to measure the total drag reduction. And then the amount of friction drag reduction was estimated under the assumption that the reduction mechanisms were effective only to the friction drag component. As the result of the tests, polymer solution drag reduction up to 23% of the total drag was observed and it corresponds to about 35% of the estimated friction drag of the axi-symmetric body. This result matched reasonably well to that of the flat plate test "(Kim et al, 2003)". The normalization of the controlling parameters was tried at the end of this paper. Micro-bubble drag reduction was within 1% of its total drag. This unexpected result was quite different from that of the flat plate case "(Kim et at, 2003)" The possible reasons were discussed in this paper.

Nano-sized iron was synthesized using borohydride reduction of $Fe^{3+}$ in aqueous solution. A wide range of synthesis conditions including varying concentrations of reagents, reagent feeding rate, and solution pH was applied in an aqueous system under anaerobic condition. The reactivity of nano-sized iron from each synthesis was evaluated by reacting the iron with TCE in batch systems. Evidence obtained from this study suggest the reactivity of iron is strongly dependent on the synthesis solution pH. The iron reactivity increased as solution pH decreased. More rapid TCE reduction was observed for iron samples synthesized from higher initial $Fe^{3+}$ concentration, which resulted in lower solution pH during the synthesis reaction. Faster feeding of $BH_4^-$ solution to the $Fe^{3+}$ solution resulted in lower synthesis solution pH and the resultant iron samples gave higher TCE reduction rate. Lowering the pH of the solution after completion of the synthesis reaction significantly increased reactivity of iron. It is presumed that the increase in the reactivity of iron synthesized at lower pH is due to less precipitation of iron (hydr)oxides or less surface passivation of iron.
$Cu-Al_20_3 $ composite powders were prepared by hydrogen reduction of $Cu^{2+}$ from ammoniacal copper sulfate solution on alumina core using autoclave. The copper reduction rate and the properties of copper layer were investigated using Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM), X-ray diffractometer, size and chemical analyzers. The reduction rate of $Cu^{2+}$ showed the maximum value when the molar ratio of [$NH_3$]/[$Cu^{2+}$] was 2. In order to prevent the agglomeration of Cu powder and ethane reduction rate, $Fe^{2+}$ and anthraquinone which act as catalysis were added in the solution. Catalysis was effectively chanced with the addition of two elemerts at a time. Optimum conditions obtained in this study were hydrogen reduction temperature of 205$^{\cire}C$, stirring speed of 500 rpm and hydrogen partial pressure of 300 psi. Obtained $Cu-Al_20_3 $ composite Powders were found to have the uniform and continuous copper coating layer of nodule shape with 3~5 $\mu$m thickness.
In this work, Aqueous sericin solution was prepared by degumming process with electrolytic reduction water. Then, the microfiltration and ultrafiltration systems were applied to the concentration of aqueous sericin solution. The objective of this study was to select the optimum operating condition among the different pressure. The permeate flux and rejection ratio were observed with time, pressure, flow rate and concentration. and, the wastewater and permeated water quality values such as pH, BOD, COD, and NH levels were measured. In order to see the influence of electrolytic reduction water, the flux of pure water and electrolytic reduction water by PVDF22(MF) and PS100(UF) membrane was measured. In microfiltration system, the relative flux reduction decreased rapidly to 0.02 in the 30min, as the concentration polarization and gel layer formation were increased. and then the sericin concentration rejection ratio was 40%. In ultrafiltration system, the permeate flux decreased with time and concentration, and increased with the operating pressure and flow rate. Optimal condition in PS100 membrane system for sericin concentration was operating pressure 1.464kgf/$cm^24, operating flow rate $7\ell/min at\; 40^{\circ}C$. At that time, sericin concentration rejection ratio was 83% respectably. The sericin solution was concentrated from 0.1wt% solution to 0.2 wt % solution during about 2 hrs by the UF filteration membrane system.
Corrosion fatigue fracture of dual phase steel(SS41) and raw material steel(SS41) were investigated in 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution at PH 4,6,9 and 11. The fatigue limit of dual phase steel is increased approximately 1.8 times larger than that of raw material in air. The corrosion fatigue life of dual phase steel is about 5-10 times larger than that of raw material in 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution. The reduction of fatigue life is larger for the acidsalt solution than for the alkali salt solution. The reduction of stress level on the reduction ratio of corrosion fatigue life is large as pH 6-11. The reduction ratio of corrosion fatigue life of dual phase steel and raw material is nearly coincided at pH 2. While at pH4-2 the reduction ratio of corrosion fatigue life only depends on the corrosion effect. It has been found that the corrosion resistance effect of dual phase steel is smaller than that of raw material in corrosion fatigue crack propagation rate. As pH below 6 is changed, it can be clearly observed from raw material that the brittle intergranular fracture is characterized, and from the above result, the influence of corrosion of dual phase steel is small.
In order to prepare the uniform copper particles from copper sulfate solution by using hydrazine as a reduction agents, the reduction behavior of copper particles from copper sulfate was investigated in detail at room temperature by the observation of reaction products. The effects of $NH_4$OH and $Na_4$$P_2$$O_{7}$ on the formation of uniform copper particles were discussed. ($NHCu_3$)$_4$$SO_4$was completely formed at over pH 11 by adding $NH_4$OH in copper sulfate solution. The fine $Cu_2$O with the particle size of 50 nm was produced in the initial reduction process of (NH$Cu_3$)$_4$$SO_4$solution with $Na_4$$P_2$$O_{ 7}$ and then the Cu$_2$O was converted into copper particles by inserting additional hydrazine. When Cu(NH$_3$)$_4$SO$_4$solution with $Na_4$$P_2$$O_{ 7}$ was reduced at $80^{\circ}C$ by hydrazine, the highly dispersed copper particles with the particle size of about 0.8 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was obtained.

In this paper, a unified solution of Hankel norm approximation problem is proposed by $\delta$-operator. To derive the main result, all-pass property is derived from the inner and co-inner property in the $\delta$-domain. The solution of all-pass becomes an optimal Hankel norm approximation problem in .delta.-domain through LLFT(Low Linear Fractional Transformation) inserting feedback term $\phi(\gamma)$, which is a free design parameter, to hold the error bound desired against the variance between the original model and the solution of Hankel norm approximation problem. The proposed solution does not only cover continuous and discrete ones depending on sampling interval but also plays a key role in robust control and model reduction problem. The verification of the proposed solution is exemplified via simulation for the zero-order Hankel norm approximation problem and the model reduction problem applied to a 16th order MIMO system.
