구강외과 영역에 있어서 Ketamine HC1의 임상적 고찰 (The Clinical Study of Ketamine HC1 on Oral Surgery)

  • Ketamine HC1(Phencyclidine derivative) is a white, crystalline substance with melting point 259℃. It is soluble in water to a 20% clear, colorless solution. a 10% aqueous solution has a pH 3.5. The chemical structure is 2-(O-chlorophenyl)-2-(methylamino) cyclohexanone hydrochloride. It is a rapid acting, nonhypnotic, nonbarbiturate drug with a wide safety margin. The author used the anesthetic ketamine hydrochloride for oral surgery procedure in 16 patients(2 to 33 years). Anesthesia was achieved with a single intramuscular injection by introduction of manufacture. Result obtained as follows : 1. It was easily administered. 2. Onset time was rapid and duration was short. 3. The mild cardiac stimulation resulted in moderate increase in the blood pressure and pulse. 4. There was no significant respiratory depression. 5. The airway can be maintained without artificial support or endotracheal intubation. 6. All protective reflex maintained, which was important in oral surgery. 7. The best results were achieved in pediatric patients than adults.

An Antioxidant Capacity Assay Using a Polyvinyl Alcohol-Based DPPH Pellet

  • To assay for antioxidant capacity of natural products considered important in producing human health benefits, a practical and economical method using pellet techniques was developed. A standard visualizing reagent, 1,1diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), was mixed with a water-miscible polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), serving as a solid phase support for the DPPH reagent. A DPPH pellet was prepared by dropping a small volume of the DPPH solution onto PET film, and drying in an oven. The PVA-based DPPH pellet was dissolved into water, in which the water-miscible PVA plays as a non-ionic surfactant to help the DPPH reagent to be dissolved into the solvent. Using the DPPH assay, the antioxidant capacity of water-soluble extracts of black soybean, barley, green tea, and green gram was examined. Among the natural products tested, green tea showed the highest antioxidant capacity. This PVA-based DPPH antioxidant assay can be further applied in the natural food, raw plant material, and health product inspection field.

$Fe_3O_4$ 나노 결정체의 형성을 통한 수용성의 자성 나노 입자의 합성 (Synthesis of Water-Soluble Magnetite Nanoparticles from Formation of $Fe_3O_4$ Nanocrystals)

  • 자성 결정체인 $Fe_3O_4$ 나노 입자를 합성하기위하여 강한 극성 용매인 2-pyrrolidone을 연전도 반응매개체로 하여 용액 내에 $FeCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$을 용해시켜 2-pyrrolidone의 비등점까지 나노 결정체 고온 열분해 방법을 이용하여 제조되었다. 고온 열분해 후, $Fe_3O_4$ 나노 입자는 methanol/diethyl ether (1:3)에 의해서 침전되어졌다. 합성된 $Fe_3O_4$ 나노 입자는 고결정도, 고자기성을 가지고 있으며, 수용성의 자성 나노 결정체이다. 합성된 $Fe_3O_4$ 나노 입자의 크기와 결정도는 transmission electron microscope (TEM, Tecnai F20)를 이용하여 특성 분석하였으며, area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern과 HRTEM을 이용하여 나노입자의 격자 패턴 (lattice fringes)을 확인하였다.

The Cytotoxic Action of New Ag-Porphyrin as a Potential Chemotherapeutic Agent

  • Earlier we have described new water-soluble Ag- and Zn-derivatives of tetrachloride meso-tetra (4-N-oxiethylpyridyl) porphyrin (TOEtPyP) as potential anticancer drugs. In this work the effect of one of these metal porphyrins, TOEtPyP Ag, on the cell population kinetics was studied in vitro using morphological and biochemical techniques. The results suggested that TOEtPyP Ag action consisted in the simultaneous suppression of the cell growth and activation of the cell death. About 40% of the cells were shown to die via apoptotic pathway. So, the porphyrin studied may be attributed to inducers of both necrotic and apoptotic processes. The results obtained support our previous assertion that TOEtPyP Ag may be considered as a potential chemotherapeutic agent.

Cyclohexane Oxidations by an Iron-Palladium Bicatalytic System; Soluble Catalysts and Polymer Supported Catalysts

  • Selective oxidation of cyclohexane in acetone solution has been studied using iron catalysts with hydrogen peroxide in-situ produced by palladium catalyst. Iron tetraphenylporphyrin chloride shows the highest activity among the tested chlorides and porphyrin complexes of some metals of the first transiton series. Iron chloride and iron tetraphenylporphyrin chloride were supported on four kinds of 4-vinylpyridine copolymer with styrene or divinyl-benzene. Nitrogen 1s photoelectron spectra give the evidence that pyridyl nitrogens of the 4-vinyl pyridine copolymer act as ligands to bind iron species. The copolymer with styrene is the most efficient support for the binding because its solubility in catalyst preparation solvent (methylene chloride) gives the pyridyl group advantage to contact with the iron catalysts. However, better catalytic activity per iron atom could be obtained with a rigid crosslinked polymer due to active site isolation.

  • Pediatric nephrotic syndrome (NS) is a clinical syndrome characterized by massive proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, and generalized edema. Most childhood NS cases are idiopathic (with an unknown etiology). Traditional therapeutic approaches based on immunosuppressive agents largely support the key role of the immune system in idiopathic NS (INS), especially in the steroid-sensitive form. Although most previous studies have suggested the main role of T cell dysfunction and/or the abnormal secretion of certain glomerular permeability factors, recent studies have emphasized the role of B cells since the therapeutic efficacy of B cell depletion therapy in inducing and/or maintaining prolonged remission in patients with INS was confirmed. Furthermore, several studies have detected circulating autoantibodies that target podocyte proteins in a subset of patients with INS, suggesting an autoimmune-mediated etiology of INS. Accordingly, a new therapeutic modality using B cell-depleting drugs has been attempted, with significant effects in a subset of patients with INS. Currently, INS is considered an immune-mediated disorder caused by a complex interplay between T cells, B cells, soluble factors, and podocytes, which may vary among patients. More in-depth investigations of the pathogenic pathways of INS are required for an effective personalized therapeutic approach and to define precise targets for therapeutic intervention.

태안 마도1호선에서 출수된 대나무 소반의 보존처리 (Conservation of Bamboo Dining Tables excavated from Taean Mado Shipwreck No. 1)

  • 태안 마도1호선에서 출수된 대나무 소반은 해양에 매장되어 있는 동안 열화되어 매우 취약한 상태였다. 따라서 치수안정화처리를 위해 약품 4종(Sucrose, Dammar gum, Cetyl alcohol, Polyethylene glycol 4000)을 사용하여 예비실험을 진행했다. 실험 결과 수용성 PEG 4000 함침 후 진공동결건조법을 적용한 시료가 형태를 잘 유지하고 처리 후 색상이 밝게 표현되어 수침대나무를 보존처리하는데 적합한 방법으로 평가되었다. 대나무 소반 2점 중 1점은 수용성 PEG 4000을 10%에서 40%까지 함침처리 한 후 진공동결건조하였다. 다른 한 점은 수용성 PEG 4000을 10%에서 70%까지 함침처리하였다. 그 후 대나무 소반의 편을 모두 해체한 후 각각의 부재를 폴리카보네이트판으로 진공동결건조하였다. 또한 형태유지 및 강도부여를 위해 아크릴을 사용하여 유물 형태에 맞추어 틀을 제작한 후 그 위에 소반을 복원함으로써 원형을 찾고 전시 및 보관이 용이하도록 하였다.

Total Dietary Fiber and Mineral Absorption

  • The consumption of foods rich in TDF should not be associated with impaired mineral absorp-tion and long-term mineral status. In surveys of populations consuming high amounts of TDF e.g Third World populations and vegetarinas gross deficiencies in mineral nutrition have not been noted. If mineral status is low among these groups it is most likely caused by the inadequacy or imbalance of the diet and not by the TDF. The key word is interaction which should be inte-rpreted in dietary imbalances that produce nut-rient deficiencies. There are no strong data to support the concept that TDF inhibits mineral absorption through a binding chelation mechanism. Limited data sug-gest that positively charged groups on polymers such as chitosan and cholestyramine will decrease iron absorption in humans and animals. Because TDF does not contain positively charged groups future research should be directed at the possible role of protein consumed along with TDF and the combination of effects on mineral nutrition Phytic acid is acknowledged as a potent chela-tor of zinc. However its association with zinc and its propensity to lower Zn bioavaiability may enhance the absorption of other elements notably copper and iron. The importance of interactions among nutrients including TDF will gain addi-tional attention in the scientific community. Soluble and insoluble dietary fiber function di-fferently in the intestine. Insoluble fibers accele-rate movement through the intestine. Soluble die-tary fibers appear to regulated blood concentra-tions of glucose and cholesterol albeit by some unknown mechanism. In creased viscosity produ-ced by the SDF in the intestine may provide an explanation of how this class of polymers affects plasma glucose cholesterol and other nutrients. Employing a double-perfusion technique in the rat we demonstrated that viscosity produced by SDF will delay transfer of zinc into the circulatory system. This delayed absorption should not be interpreted as decreased utilization. A great deal of additional research is required to prove the importance of luminaly viscosity produced by SDF on slowing nutrient absorption or regulating bllod nutrient homeostasis. Increased intake of TDF in the total human diet appears desirable. A dietary intake of 35g/day should not be considered to have a negative effect on mineral absorption. It is important to educate people that an intake of more than 35g TDF/day may cause an imbalance in the diet that can adve-rsely affect mineral utilization. Acknowledgments. 전자기후도를 이용한 고품질 사과생산 후보지역 탐색 (Using Digital Climate Modeling to Explore Potential Sites for Quality Apple Production)

  • 정밀 수치기후도를 기반으로 고품질 사과생산에 적합한 지역을 정밀하게 탐색할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하였다. 이 시스템을 전북 장수군에 적용하여 후지 및 쓰가루 품종의 재배적지를 도출하였다. 수치기후도는 장수군 주변 7개 기상청 표준관측소로부터 얻은 1971-2000년 기간 일 최고 및 최저기온의 월별 평균값을 토대로 지형기후모형에 의해 사방 10m 격자점의 기온자료를 공간내삽하여 얻었다. 기온자료로부터 사과의 만개기를, 4월 최저기온으로부터 종상일을 추정하여 상해위험도를 산정하였고, 재현기간 100년의 1월 극 최저기온으로부터 동해위험도를 산정하였다. 토지의 경사, 토성 및 토지이용도를 고려한 재배가능지역에서 기상재해 위험지역을 제외시키고, 남은 지역에 대해 품질기준을 적용하여 최종적인 재배후보지를 도출하였다. 품질기준인 Anthocyanin 함량, Hunter A value, L/D Ratio, Fresh Firmness, Soluble Solid에 미치는 기후의 영향을 경험식에 의해 표현하고 이것을 수치기후도에 적용하여 각 품질기준별 적합지역을 탐색하였다. 최종적으로 얻은 결과에 따르면, 쓰가루의 경우 전체 면적의 20%, 후지는 11%가 재배적지로 나타났다. 수치기후도 제작으로부터 중첩분석에 의한 재배적지 판정에 이르는 전체과정을 ArcObject를 이 용한 Visual BASIC 프로그램으로 작성하여 자동화하였고, MapObject를 이용하여 사용자가 ArcGIS 소프트웨어 없이도 구축된 수치기후도 등 공간정보를 직접 보면서 재배적지를 탐색할 수 있는 배포용 프로그램을 제작하였다.
