Pyroprocessing is a promising technology for managing spent nuclear fuel. The nuclear material accounting of feed material is a challenging issue in safeguarding pyroprocessing facilities. The input material in pyroprocessing is in a solid-state, unlike the solution state in an input accountability tank used in conventional wet-type reprocessing. To reduce the uncertainty of the input material accounting, a double-stage homogenization process is proposed in considering the process throughput, remote controllability, and remote maintenance of an engineering-scale pyroprocessing facility. This study tests two types of mixing equipment in the proposed double-stage homogenization process using surrogate materials. The expected heterogeneity and accounting uncertainty of Pu are calculated based on the surrogate test results. The heterogeneity of Pu was 0.584% obtained from Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) spent fuel of 59 WGd/tU when the relative standard deviation of the mass ratio, tested from the surrogate powder, is 1%. The uncertainty of the Pu accounting can be lower than 1% when the uncertainty of the spent fuel mass charged into the first mixers is 2%, and the uncertainty of the first sampling mass is 5%.
Li1.5Al0.5Ti1.5(PO4)3 (LATP) is considered to be one of the promising solid-state electrolytes owing to its excellent chemical and thermal stability, wide potential range (~5.0 V), and high ionic conductivity (~10-4 S/cm). LATP powders are typically prepared via the sol-gel method by adding and mixing nitrate or alkoxide precursors with chelating agents. Here, the thermal properties, crystallinity, density, particle size, and distribution of LATP powders based on chelating agents (citric acid, acetylacetone, EDTA) are compared to find the optimal conditions for densely sintered LATP with high purity. In addition, the three types of LATP powders are utilized to prepare sintered solid electrolytes and observe the microstructure changes during the sintering process. The pyrolysis onset temperature and crystallization temperature of the powder samples are in the order AC-LATP > CA-LATP > ED-LATP, and the LATP powder utilizing citric acid exhibits the highest purity, as no secondary phase other than LiTi2PO4 phase is observed. LATP with citric acid and acetylacetone has a value close to the theoretical density (2.8 g/cm3) after sintering. In comparison, LATP with EDTA has a low sintered density (2.2 g/cm3) because of the generation of many pores after sintering.

In this paper, studies on a mixing characteristic and viscosity measurement of polymer/graphite composites for a bipolar plate of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell were presented. Since the materials for the bipolar plate should be electrically conductive, contents of solid graphite in the composite are very high. As a consequence, a viscosity of the polymer/graphite composite used for the bipolar plate is very high and the measurement of the viscosity is difficult. Viscosity measurements of the polymer/graphite composites were not possible because pressure drops were continuously fluctuated during the viscosity measurements when a conventional capillary die was used. After the die design was optimized, the steady state pressure drop could be achieved, but the viscosity thus measured was not reproducible. After many trials with different experimental techniques, it was found that melt blending of the grinded powder mixtures of both PET and graphite provides reproducible viscosity measurements and electric conductivities of the polymer/graphite composites.

Hybridization of dense ceramic membranes for hydrogen separation with an electronically conductive metallic phase is normally utilized to enhance the hydrogen permeation flux and thereby to increase the production efficiency of hydrogen. In this study, we developed a nickel and proton conducting oxide ($BaCe_{0.9}Y_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$: BCY) based cermet (ceramic-metal composites) membrane. Focused on the general criteria in that the hydrogen permeation properties of a cermet membrane depend on its microstructural features, such as the grain size and the homogeneity of the mix, we tried to optimize the microstructure of Ni-BCY cermets by controlling the fabrication condition. The Ni-BCY composite powder was synthesized via a solid-state reaction using $2NiCO_3{\cdot}3Ni(OH)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$, $BaCeO_3$, $CeO_2$ and $Y_2O_3$ as a starting material. To optimize the mixing scale and homogeneity of the composite powder, we employed a high-energy milling process. With this high-energy milled composite powder, we could fabricate a fine-grained dense membrane with an excellent level of mixing homogeneity. This controlled Ni-BCY cermet membrane showed higher hydrogen permeability compared to uncontrolled Ni-BCY cermets created with a conventionally ball-milled composite powder.
Generally it requires high sintering temperatures more than 135$0^{\circ}C$ to make semiconductive BaTiO3 ceramics. Also it is very difficult to achieve a homogeneous mixing in solid-state reaction method. Therefore the liquid phase distributed to non-uniform dilute the characteristics of PTCR. In order to improve the uniformity this study is used the sol-gel coating method. Using this method we studied the new manufacturing process that had a high reproducibility and mass production capability. Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was used as a source of Si. The semiconductive BaTiO3 ceramics which was produced by sol-gel method for the SiO2 addition and sintered between 124$0^{\circ}C$ and 130$0^{\circ}C$ showed almost same resistivity at room temperature among 125$0^{\circ}C$ and 130$0^{\circ}C$. As the results We could be sintered the semiconducting BaTiO3 ceramics at lower temperature even at 125$0^{\circ}C$ maintaining the same specific resistivity ratio ($\rho$max/$\rho$min) at 130$0^{\circ}C$. The specific resistivity both below and above the Curie temperature were increased by slow cooling and the steepness of the plots in the reasion of transition from low to high resistance increased as the cooling rate decreased.

Experimental investigations have been made to study the double-diffusive nature of convection of an initially stratified salt-water solution due to heating from below in a rotating cylindrical cavity. The objective is to examine the flow phenomena and the heat transfer characteristics according to the changes in temperature gradient, concentration gradient and rotating velocity of cavity. Thermal and solutal boundary conditions at side wall are adiabatic and impermeable, respectively. The top and bottom plate are maintained each at constant temperature and concentration. The cavity is put into a state of solid body rotation. Like the stationary case, the types of initially-formed flow pattern are classified into three regimes depending on the effective Rayleigh number and Taylor number; stagnant flow regime, single mixed-layer flow regime and successively formed multi-mixed layer flow regime. At the same effective Rayleigh number, the number of initially-formed mixed layer and its growth rate decrease as the effect of rotation increases. The temperature and concentration profiles are both uniform in each layer due to convective mixing in the layered-flow regime, but look both liner in stagnant flow regime and single mixed-layer flow regime. At the interface between adjacent layers, the temperature changes smoothly but the concentration changes rapidly.
The particle size of medicinal materials is an Important physical property that affects the phar-maceutical behaviors such as dissolution, chemical stability, and bioavailability of solid dosage forms. The size reduction of raw medicinal powder is needed to formulate insoluble drugs or slightly soluble medicines and to improve the pharmaceutical properties such as the solubility, the pharmaceutical mixing, and the dispersion. The objective of the present study is to evaluate physiological activity of amorphous and nano-particle prep-arations of insoluble drug, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), which were made by three types of fine grinding mills. The change of physical properties of ground UDCA was conformed by Mastersiger microplus and X-ray diffraction. We have investigated hepatoprotective effects of the nano-particle preparations of UDCA by plan-etary mill, vibration rod mill and jet mill in $CCI_4$-induced oxidatively injured mouse liver. The results showed that nano-particle preparations of UDCA all decreased reactive oxygen sepecies generation and lipid peroxi-dation in $CCI_4$-induced oxidative stress mice. Among them, nano-particle preparations by vibration rod mill and jet mill showed more significantly hepatoprotective effects compared to intact UDCA and planetary mill-ground UDCA. These results suggest that ground UDCA with vibration rod mill and jet mill shows a high amorphous state and the improved dissolution.

Lead-free (1-x)$(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-xLiNbO_3$, i.e., NKN-LNx (x=0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 mol) was prepared using the conventional solid state reaction method. The effects of LN mixing on the ferroelectric properties of NKN-LNx ceramics were studied using a dielectric constant and P-E (Polarization-electric field) measurements. Ferroelectricity was observed in the composition for x approximately varying between 0.0 and 0.4. Minimum remanent polarization $2P_r=5C/cm^2$ was achieved in the composition for x = 0.2. The ferroelectric phase transition temperature $T_C$ increased with increasing LN content. The ferroelectric phase transition of NKN-LNx ($x{\geq}0.1$) is a second-order phase transition, and that of NKN-LNx ($x{\leq}0.2$) is a first-order phase transition. These results indicate that the ferroelectric phase transition temperature of NKN-LNx change from that of second-order to weak first-order phase transition according to the LN content.
ZnS:Mn, Dy yellow phosphors for White Light Emitting Diode were synthesized by a solid state reaction method using ZnS, $MnSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$, S and $DyCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ powders as starting materials. The mixed powder was sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 4 h in an air atmosphere. The photoluminescence of the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors showed spectra extending from 480 to 700 nm, peaking at 580 nm. The photoluminescence of 580 nm in the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors was associated with $^4T_1{\rightarrow}^6A_1$ transition of $Mn^{2+}$ ions. The highest photoluminescence intensity of the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors under 450 nm excitation was observed at 4 mol% Dy doping. The enhanced photoluminescence intensity of the ZnS:Mn, Dy phosphors was explained by energy transfer from $Dy^{3+}$ to $Mn^{2+}$. The CIE coordinate of the 4 mol% Dy doped ZnS:Mn, Dy was X = 0.5221, Y = 0.4763. The optimum mixing conditions for White Light Emitting Diode was obtained at the ratio of epoxy : yellow phosphor = 1:2 form CIE coordinate.
