Temperatures of engine head and liner depend on many factors such as spray and combustion process, coolant passage flow and engine related structures. To estimate the temperature distribution of engine structure, multi-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes have been mainly adopted. In this case, it is of great importance to obtain the realistic wall temperature distribution of entire engine structure. In the present work, a CFD-FEM coupling methodology was presented to address this demand. This approach was applied to a real large-size marine diesel engine. CFD combustion and coolant flow simulations were coupled to FEM temperature analysis. Wall heat flux and wall temperature data were interfaced between combustion simulation and solid component temperature analysis via translator by a commercial CFD package named FIRE by AVL. Heat transfer coefficient and surface temperature data were exchanged and mapped between coolant flow simulation and FEM temperature analysis. Results indicate that there exists the optimum cell thickness near combustion chamber wall to reasonably predict the wall heat flux during combustion period. The present study also shows that the effect of cell refining on predicting in-cylinder pressure during combustion is negligible. Hence, the basic guidance on obtaining the wall heat flux needed for the reasonable CFD-FEM coupling analysis has been established. It is expected that this coupling methodology is a robust tool for practical engine design and can be applied to further assessment of the temperature distribution of other engine components.

When high energy photon beam is incident upon an air cavity interface the effect of ionization build-up observed . This phenomenon is resulting from the surface layers of the lesions are significant deficiency of electrons reaching the layers because of the replacement, of solid scattering material by the air cavity, that is lack of electronic equilibrium. Measurement have been made in an acrylic phantom with a parallel plate chamber and high energy photon beams, CO-60, 4MV, 6MV and 10MV X-rays have been investigated. The result of our study show that a significant effect was measured and was determined to be very dependent on field size, air cavity dimension and photon energy. The reductions were much larger for 10MV beam, underdosage at the interface was 12, 12.2, 16.9 and $20.6\%$ for the CO-60, 4MV, 6MV and 10MV, respectively. It was found that this non-equilibrium effect at the interface is more severe for the higher energy beams than that of lower energy beams and the larger cavity dimensions the larger beam reductions occur. This problem is of clinical concern when lesions such as carcinoma beyond air cavities are irradiated, such as larynx, glottic and the patients with maxillectomy and ethmoidectomy and so forth.

When a bomb explodes near a tunnel, generated muck should be quickly moved outside for rehabilitation of the tunnel. In this study, the amount of muck generated by an explosion was estimated and a methodology was presented for the prediction of the muck hauling time. To this end, 3D-meshes were made by using SoildWorks and blasting analyses were performed by using AUTODYN. A method was suggested to calculate theoretically the amount of muck which inflows into a tunnel based on the relationship between the tunnel and the fragmentation zone obtained from the analysis results. Also, muck hauling times were predicted based on the selection of construction equipment and the results were compared and analyzed. As a result, it was convinced that the amount of muck flowing into the tunnel could be effectively calculated by classifying the relationship between a tunnel and the fragmentation zone into 4 cases and using the mensuration by parts. Also it was confirmed that the closer blasting location is to the portal and the excavation surface of a tunnel, and the more blasting location deviates from the center line of the tunnel, the lesser amount of muck occurs and thus the muck hauling time decreases as well.

This study was to investigate the reduction of hydration heat by utilizing industrial by-products such as BFS(Blast Furnace Slag). DM(Dredged Mud) was used by parent soil and Ordinary portland cement was used by cementing material. Additive added to reduce the heat of hydration was BFS. From the results of experiment, hydration heat was decreased in accordance with the addition of BFS. The reason was that surface of BFS coated with aluminosulfate. Initial uniaxial strength was low, neither was not long term uniaxial strength. It was concluded that silica rich layer($H_2SiO_4^{4-}$) in solid phase early in the reaction of hydration was difficultly moved in liquid phase due to the increase of ZP(Zeta Potential). However, the ZP in the later hydration was decreased due to the acceleration of mobility of silica rich layer($H_2SiO_4^{4-}$). Therefore, long term physical properties such as uniaxial strength revealed.
The synthesis of $Ni_5Si_2,\;Ni_2Si$ and NiSi has been investigated by mechanical alloying (MA) of Ni-27.9at%Si, Ni-33.3at%Si and Ni-50.0at%Si powder mixtures. As-received and premilled elemental powders were subjected to MA. The as-received Ni powder was spherical and the mean particle size 48.8$\mu$m, whereas the premilled Ni powder was flaky and the mean particle diameter and thickness were found to be 125 and 5$\mu$m, respectively. The mean surface area of the premilled Mi powder particle was 3.5 times as large as that of the as-received Ni powder particle. The as-received Si powder was was 10.0$\mu$m. Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) reaction, followed by a slow reaction (a solid state diffusion), was observed to produce each Ni silicide during MA of the as-received elemental powders. In other word , the reactants and product coexisted for a long period of MA of time. Only SHS reaction was, however, observed to produce each Ni silicide during MA of the premilled elemental powders, indicating that each Ni sillicide formed rather abruptly at a short period of MA time. The mechanisms and reaction rates for the formation of the Ni silicides appeared to be influenced by the elemental powder particle size and shape as well as the heat of formation of the products $(Ni_5Si_2$longrightarrow-43.1kJ/mol.at., $Ni_2Si$$\rightarrow$-47.6kJ/mol.at.).

The experimental study of the behavior of dry medium and loose sandy soil under the action of a single impulsive load is carried out. Different falling masses from different heights were conducted using the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) to provide the single pulse energy. The responses of soils were evaluated at different locations (vertically below the impact plate and horizontally away from it). These responses include; displacements, velocities, and accelerations that are developed due to the impact acting at top and different depth ratios within the soil using the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) and accelerometers (ARH-500A Waterproof, and Low capacity Acceleration Transducer) that are embedded in the soil and then recorded using the multi-recorder TMR-200. The behavior of medium and loose sandy soil was evaluated with different parameters, these are; footing embedment, depth ratios (D/B), diameter of the impact plate (B), and the applied energy. It was found that increasing footing embedment depth results in: amplitude of the force-time history increases by about 10-30%. due to increase in the degree of confinement with the increasing in the embedment, the displacement response of the soil will decrease by about 25-35% for loose sand, 35-40% for medium sand due to increase in the overburden pressure when the embedment depth increased. For surface foundation, the foundation is free to oscillate in vertical, horizontal and rocking modes. But, when embedding a footing, the surrounding soil restricts oscillation due to confinement which leads to increasing the natural frequency, moreover, soil density increases with depth because of compaction, that is, tendency to behave as a solid medium.

A 7-year-old female Shih Tzu dog with lots of masses in the whole mammary gland was presented to the surgery department of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Cheju National University. After surgical excision, all mammary samples were referred to Pathology Department of Veterinary Medicine. Grossly, masses were measuring up to $6.5{\times}4{\times}1cm$ and on cut surface of masses in right 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and left 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th mammary masses were well delineated and firm, sulphur yellow, solid round to oval shape. Microscopically, most neoplastic sweat glands were severely proliferated in dermis and subcutis. Most tubules were lined by round to oval shaped epithelium with eosinophilic cytoplasm, hyperchromatic nuclei with high mitotic figures and severe central necrosis. The neoplastic epithelium also had PAS-positive diastase-resistant cytoplasmic granules, but negative with Perls iron stain. The left 2nd mass was well delineated, and had several dark brown areas and yellowish white glittered areas. Mass was well circumscribed with dense connective tissue. Neoplastic areas contained irregular sized mammary gland with papillary grown luminal epithelial cells in single or double cells layer with mitotic figures and small amounts of proliferated myoepithelial cells. Proliferated myoepithelial cells also produced slightly basophilic mucinous materials. Based on the gross, histopathologic and special staining characteristics, this dog was diagnosed as 90% of apocrine sweat gland aenocarcinoma and 10% mammary. complex adenomas in mammary masses. In our best knowledge, this is the first report for concurrent occurrence of apocrine sweat gland adenocarcinoma and mammary gland complex adenoma in mammary masses of the same dog.

A hybrid method based on high-frequency asymptotic optics was developed in order to predict the RCS of flying vehicles for RCS reduction studies. In cavity return, the rays are assumed to bounce from the inlet cavity based on the laws of geometrical optics and to exit the cavity via the aperture. In other parts of a flying vehicle, the physical optics method is applied to compute the back-scattered field from the solid surface. The hybrid method was validated by considering simple models of sphere and sphere with cavity. In addition, RCS analysis of a flying vehicle was conducted using the new hybrid electromagnetic scattering method based on physical optics and geometrical optics theories.
The position of autonomous driving vehicle is basically acquired through the global positioning system (GPS). However, GPS signals cannot be received in tunnels. Due to this limitation, localization of autonomous driving vehicles can be made through sensors mounted on them. In particular, a 3D Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) system is used for longitudinal position error correction. Few feature points and structures that can be used for localization of vehicles are available in tunnels. Since lanes in the road are normally marked by solid line, it cannot be used to recognize a longitudinal position. In addition, only a small number of structures that are separated from the tunnel walls such as sign boards or jet fans are available. Thus, it is necessary to extract usable information from tunnels to recognize a longitudinal position. In this paper, fire hydrants and evacuation guide lights attached at both sides of tunnel walls were used to recognize a longitudinal position. These structures have highly distinctive reflectivity from the surrounding walls, which can be distinguished using LIDAR reflectivity data. Furthermore, reflectivity information of tunnel walls was fused with the road surface reflectivity map to generate a synthetic reflectivity map. When the synthetic reflectivity map was used, localization of vehicles was able through correlation matching with the local maps generated from the current LIDAR data. The experiments were conducted at an expressway including Maseong Tunnel (approximately 1.5 km long). The experiment results showed that the root mean square (RMS) position errors in lateral and longitudinal directions were 0.19 m and 0.35 m, respectively, exhibiting precise localization accuracy.

In order to reduce the trial-and-errors in design and production of injection molded plastic parts, there has been much research effort not only on CAE systems which simulate the injection molding process, but also on CAD systems which support initial design and re-design of plastic parts and their molds. The CAD systems and CAE systems have been developed independently with being built on different basis. That is, CAD systems manipulate the part shapes and the design features in a complete solid model, while CAE systems work on shell meshes generated on the abstract sheet model or medial surface of the part. Therefore, it is required to support the two types of geometric models and feature information in one environment to integrate CAD and CAE systems for accelerating the design speed. A feature-based non-manifold geometric modeling system has been developed to provide an integrated environment for design and analysis of injection molding products. In this system, the geometric models for CAD and CAE systems are represented by a non-manifold boundary representation and they are merged into a single geometric model. The suitable form of geometric model for any application can be extracted from this model. In addition, the feature deletion and interaction problem of the feature-based design system has been solved clearly by introducing the non-manifold Boolean operation based on 'merge and selection' algorithm. The sheet modeling capabilities were also developed for easy modeling of thin plastic parts.
