Mathematical learning via projects, which enables the reconstruction of curriculum through integration and emphasizes the process of solving problems by posing questions, has attracted the attention of the department of mathematics. This research is aimed at exploring the link between mathematics and project learning by analyzing an example of student-oriented project 'the secrets of pyramid' focused on understanding 'triangle' specifically designed for forth graders. From 115-hour process of subject-oriented project, this study reinterpreted the mathematical meaning of only 24 hours directly related to mathematics, especially to figure exploration. Consequently, this problem solving involved a variety of geometric activities as a process, such as measuring an angle, constructing a triangle, etc. Thus students attempt to actively participate in the process, thereby allowing them to learn how to measure things more accurately. Moreover, project learning improved students' understanding on not only plane figures but solid figures. This indicates that by project learning, learning from given problems or contents can be extended to other mathematical areas.
This paper aims to explore what we can improve in the curriculum, teaching-learning, and evaluation on the bases of the analyses of multiple-choice items set in National Assessment of Educational Achievement. For this goal, by using the distribution curves of the responses percentages, we will grasp the features of educational achievement which appear to students through an in-depth analysis about not only item itself but also the contents included in particular distracters. These analyses provide more information than the descriptive statistical values such as the mean of correct answer percentage and the discrimination of whole group and the mean of responses percentages of replies of subgroups. Because the distribution curves of the responses percentages reveal the transition from the lowest to the highest educational achievement very well. From these analyses we acquire the implications about the concept of prime factor or prime factorization, ratio(proportion) such as velocity, linear function, volume of cone, properties of solid figure, and probabilities of empty event and total event.
Superhero films have formed a new genre convention encompassing all the generations. Figures derived from image contents are solid figures produced by means of professional figuration skills. Possession of figures has a symbolic meaning as a medium connecting the imaginary world and real one. From this perspective, figures hold an important position as a character product derived due to market expansion of the content industry. In this context, the study, which analyzed how appraisal of outward visual elements in superhero action figures might affect consumer's purchase intention, aimed to identify their purchase patterns. For this, the study established colors, types of physical body, facial figures and motions as independent variables for appraisal of outward visual elements, and purchase intention as a dependent variable and then conducted a multiple regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, the study found that colors, types of physical body and facial figures had a positive influence on purchase intention, while motions had no significant influence.

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) launched on June 16, 2009 has six experiments including of the Cosmic Ray Telescope for the Effects of Radiation (CRaTER) onboard. The CRaTER instrument characterizes the radiation environment to be experienced by humans during future lunar missions. The CRaTER instrument measures the effects of ionizing energy loss in matter specifically in silicon solid-state detectors due to penetrating solar energetic protons (SEP) and galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) after interactions with tissue-equivalent plastic (TEP), a synthetic analog of human tissue. The CRaTER instrument houses a compact and highly precise microdosimeter. It measures dose rates below one micro-Rad/sec in silicon in lunar radiation environment. Forbush decrease (FD) event is the sudden decrease of GCR flux. We use the data of cosmic ray and dose rates observed by the CRaTER instrument. We also use the CME list of STEREO SECCHI inner, outer coronagraph and the interplanetary CME data of the ACE/MAG instrument. We examine the origins and the characteristics of the FD-like events in lunar radiation environment. We also compare these events with the FD events on the Earth. We find that whenever the FD events are recorded at ground Neutron Monitor stations, the FD-like events also occur on the lunar environments. The flux variation amplitude of FD-like events on the Moon is approximately two times larger than that of FD events on the Earth. We compare time profiles of GCR flux with of the dose rate of FD-like events in the lunar environment. We figure out that the distinct FD-like events correspond to dose rate events in the CRaTER on lunar environment during the event period.

This study was performed to figure out what would be effective to maintain good water quality in the retention pond which was badly polluted before. In order to keep the good water quality of the retention pond it is necessary to prevent outer non-point source pollutants from flowing into the pond. In this study, we proposed to use porous slag as a blockage of the inflow into the pond from external non-point sources. We experimented with porous slag nets to see how the water is effected. With the results of the experiments, we found out there is a close correlation($r^2=0.9765$) between contact time and the removal rate of phosphorus, therefore we can conclude that contact time affects removal rate greatly. Synthetic wastewater, activated sludge effluent, and sewage were passed through a porous slag packed bed, both phosphorus and the suspended solid in water were removed highly. With the results of these tests, we proposed to set up a porous slag packed bed inside of the retention pond and revetment to prevent external non-point source pollutants flowing into the retention pond.

Solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) attracts much attention because of its high energy efficiency among many water-electrolysis technologies. SOEC operates at temperatures above 700℃, so that the water required for water-electrolysis must be supplied in the form of steam. When the steam to be supplied to the SOEC is generated by the SOEC system itself, an enormous amount of latent heat is required to vaporize the water, so additional energy must be supplied to the SOEC system. On the other hand, if the steam can be supplied from the outside, a small amount of energy is required to raise the temperature of the low temperature steam, so that the SOEC system can be operated without additional energy supply from outside, which enables efficient water-electrolysis. In this study, we figure out the size of heat exchanger for various steam temperature and effectiveness of heat exchanger, and propose the energy efficiency of the system.
This study constructed a 3D geological model for Uggi Nuur Fe-Mn mineralization zone in Mongolia, and the 3D geological distribution is cross-analyzed with magnetic anomaly distribution to figure out relationship between ore zone and subsurface geology. As a result of 4 step 3D modeling procedures including geological cross section, surface modeling, foliation modeling and solid modeling, the geology of the both study area is bordered by faults in NW direction with Munguntessj formation being located in the west side of the fault while Yashill formation is located on the other side of the fault. Moreover, the strike direction of foliation in the both formation shows same directional pattern with the NW faults. The magnetic anomaly distribution reveals that higher anomaly values are concentrated to near the ground surface. The analyses of 3 dimensional distribution between subsurface geology and magnetic anomaly indicates that higher anomaly is mainly distributed over the Munguntessj formation as a elongated lens bodies whereas the magnetic anomaly is evenly found in the both of Munguntessj formation and Yashill formation in the study area 2. It infers that volcanic activities associated mineralization occurred during silurian period, and the mineralized zone is thought to be realigned along the geological structures caused by later stage tectonic activities.

Recent color plans in school buildings are made by experts through public offerings for prizes for designs etc in relatively many cases. But it is necessary to review if such color plans are actually well conform to students' emotions and what trend the color plans made as such have. Therefore, this study examined and analyzed the exterior colors of the school buildings planned by public offerings for prizes for designs and reviewed the result comparing to the color preferences of students that had already been studied to figure out the differences between existing theories and the realities. And it was examined what differences were existing in the trends of color plans and color images examined between each of school levels. The result of the study compared to theories is as follows. First, when the color distributions were reviewed for each school level, it could be confirmed that the overall distributions moved from Y category to B category and whereas warm colors were more widely distributed and the number of colors were greater compared to cold colors in case of elementary schools, the distributions of warm colors gradually decreased as school level moves to high schools. Second, the color use distributions of elementary school students were revealed to be more diversified than middle and high school students and also the number of colors used was 9.5 in average in elementary school and middle schools and high schools were similar to each other with average 5.86 colors in middle schools and 6.33 colors in high schools showing a little differences in color use distributions among school levels of elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. Third, in case of elementary schools, except main colors, both of subsidiary colors and emphasizing colors had the distributions of warm colors of R, YR, Y categories and cold colors of B, PB categories and this is also consistent with the results of existing research results indicating that low grade students prefor for warm colors and high grade students prefer for cold colors. Fourth, in case of middle schools and high schools, although the distributions of warm colors decreased, the distributions of warm colors and cold colors were revealed to be similar. This is considered to be consistent with the existing research results indicating that girl students prefer for warm colors even if their ages go up. Fifth, as for the images of main colors, subsidiary colors and emphasizing colors resulted from the comparisons by solid color Image Scales and adjective Image Scales, first, in case of main colors, natural images or clear images appeared the most in all of elementary schools, middle schools and high schools indicating that basically calmness is emphasized with soft images rather than hard images and static images rather than dynamic images. Also, in case of subsidiary colors or emphasizing colors, cheerful images or splendid images are also seen to decrease as school level goes from elementary schools to high schools in adjective Image Scales and this is considered to reflect the color sentiment differences between children and juveniles based on ages.

Numerous studies on urban groundwater have been carried out in many other countries. Urban groundwater shows a unique hydrologic system because of complex urban characteristics such as road pavement, sewers and public water supply systems. These urban facilities may change the characteristics of groundwater recharge but contaminate its quality as well. There have been several researches on urban groundwater in Seoul. Seoul has been industrialized very rapidly so that the city has large population. The recent population in Seoul amounts to more than ten millions, corresponding to a very high density of about 17, 000 people/km$^2$. Therefore, many factors affect the groundwater quality and quantity in Seoul. Nowadays, groundwater in Seoul is being extracted for construction, industrial use, and drinking and so on. There are 15, 714 wells in Seoul and its annual usage is 41, 425, 977m$^3$(in 2001). Therefore, systematic studies are needed to properly manage and use the groundwater in Seoul. The purposes of this study in progress are to identify geochemical characteristics of groundwater in Seoul and to determine the extent of groundwater contamination and its relationship with urban characteristics. For this study, groundwater was sampled from more than 400 preexisting wells that were randomly selected throughout the Seoul area. For all samples, major cations together with Si, Al, Fe, Pb, Hg For 200 samples among them, TCE, PCE, BTEX were also analyzed by GC. Our study shows that groundwater types of Seoul are distributed broadly from Ca-HCO$_3$ type to Ca-Cl+NO$_3$ type. The latter type indicates anthropogenic contamination. Among cations, Ca is generally high in most samples. In some samples, Na and K are dominant. The dominant anions change widely from HCO$_3$ to Cl+NO$_3$. The anion composition is considered to effectively indicate the contribution of distinct anthropogenic sources. In addition, major ions are positively proportional to total dissolved solid (TDS) except K and NO$_3$. Thus, we consider that TDS may be used as an effective indicator of the extent of pollution. However, the increase of TDS may result from increased water-rock interaction. To determine the extent of groundwater contamination, it is needed to figure out the baseline water quality in Seoul. Furthermore, detailed geochemical studies are required to find out pollution sources and their corresponding hydrochemical parameters.
Chemical composition, crystal structure, refractive index, specific gravity, color, and luster were studied fur pyrope-almandine series garnets. The main coloring agents determining the reddish or brownish garnets were also investigated. It was also examined if there is any relationship between mineralogical properties with respect to the various chemical compositions in the solid solution, in the hope to figure out the existing classification values of R.I. and S.G. using gem- testing facilities to distinguish pyrope from almadine. It was found that 17 out of the 24 specimens belong to pyrope and the rest almandine. R.I. of pyrope goes up to 1.77 and that of almandine is higher than the value.5.5. of pyrope reaches to 3.88 and that of almandine is greater than the value of pyrope. X-ray diffraction data revealed that pyrope-almandine garnets are isometric with space group Ia3d, and also show that the variation of cell parameters are not significant enough to parallel with the chemical compositions of the series. R.I. and S.G. increase with FeO content. Fe and Mn are most responsible to the red-purple and orange coloration of the specimens, respectively. Both zircon and rutile crystals are most common inclusions in the reddish stones.
