This paper presents the interdisciplinary study of a combined mechanism on the interactions between ground and foot using bioengineering and geotechnical engineering. A new mechanism of advanced technology shoes, which can be made safe with a comfortable gait on both soft and hard ground, were developed combining the mechanism of conical top foundation. The experimental tests were carried out to verify the developed shoes. The prototype shoes and test grounds were designed and produced to perform the tests. The general existing shoes and advanced technology shoes were used to measure the pressures re-acting the sole during the tests by a special measurement system. The results clearly showed that the pressures acting on the sole of advanced technology shoes were distributed uniformly compared with that of the existing shoes, and were in good agreement with theoretical approach of the new mechanism. Therefore, the advanced technology shoes could allow a safe gait ergonomically by a new mechanism on any ground type. The load transfer could occur by the interaction between ground and shoes. In addition, these results are expected to be useful for the development of an interdisciplinary study of a new mechanism in the future.
A transposon Tn5 mutant of Rhodobacter sphaeroides 2.4.1 was isolated for its impaired ability of growth on minimal medium containing ${\beta}$-hydroxybutyric acid as a sole carbon source. The mutant, R. sphaeroides S7 showed approximately 6-fold decrease in ${\beta}$-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase activity compared with that of wild type. In R. sphaeroides S7 the Tn5 was located in DNA region corresponding to a 4.2-kb EcoRI DNA fragment of R. sphaeroides 2.4.1 chromosome.

In sole-source procurement contraction for government goods and services, the buyer (government) needs to derive the optimal actions from the contractor so the buyer can obtain the maximum utility and the contractor, or single-source supplier, is guaranteed the equivalent of a minimum level of profit. Under the assumption of risk-neutrality for both the buyer and the contractor and the buyer's unobservability of the contractor's action, it is necessary for the buyer to design a (mathematical) model to achieve the above objective. This paper considers the mathematical formulation in which two problems - moral hazard and adverse selection - are present simultaneously; furthermore, from the formulation, a GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling System) program is used for a possible buyer to obtain the optimal actions.
The monopropellant hydrazine thrusters are widely used for the satellite on-board propulsion system fulfilling various missions in space. They have outstanding features caused by the nearly unlimited restart capability and the very high credibility. The sole monopropellant thruster used at precent in nation is MRE-1 that is a standard component of NASA. It can produce 4.45 N of nominal thrust. Due to the glowing complexity with a satellite mission, the needs for thrusters of the diverse performance are being increased. The numerical simulation could give useful information to develop a new type thruster instead of the experiments performed previously. Therefore it is critical to make a reliable computer code to prepare design change of a thruster. In this paper, the performance analysis and validation of the satellite monopropellant hydrazine thruster currently used is accomplished as the preliminary study to serve valuable data for future design change.

This hybrid position/force control for the dynamic walking of the biped robot is performed in this paper. After the biped robot was modeled with 14 degrees of freedom of the multibody dynamics, the equations of motion are constructed using velocity transformation technique. Then the inverse dynamic analysis is performed for determining the driving torques and the ground reaction forces. From this analysis, obtains the maximum ground contact force at the moment of contacting which act on the rear of the sole of swing leg and the distribution curve of the ground reaction. Because these maximum force and distribution type acts an important role to the stability of the whole dynamic walking, they are reduced and distributed smoothly by means of the trajectory of the modified ground reaction force. This new trajectory is used to the reference input for more stable dynamic walking of the whole walking region.
Catabolic pathways for the degradation of various aromatics by Sphingomonas yanoikuyae Bl are intertwined, joining at the level of substituted benzoates, which are further degraded vita ring cleavage reactions. The mutant strain EK497, which was constructed by deleting a large DNA region containing most of the genes for biphenyl, naphthalene, m-xylene, and m-toluate degradation, was unable to grow on all of the aromatics tested except for benzoate as the sole source of carbon and energy.S. yanoikuyae EK497 was found to possess only catechol ortho-ring cleavage activity due to deletion of the genes for the meta-cleavage pathway. Wild-type S. yanoikuyae Bl grown on benzoate has both catechol orthoand meta-cleavage activity. However, m-xylene and m-toluate, which are metabolized through methylbenzoate, and biphenyl, which is metabolized through benzoate, induce only the meta-cleavage pathway, suggesting the presence of a substrate-dependent induction mechanism.
The distribution of the pressure between the sole of a feet and a supporting surface can reveal the information about the structure and fonction of the foot and the posural control of the whole body. In particular, the measurement of the vertical contact forces between the plantar surface of the foot and the shoe insole is of great importance to reveal the loading distributio patterns incurred from a particular shoe midsole design. In order to investigate the plantar surface pressure distribution, an insole-type sensor with a piezoelectric material is developed and tested. The present paper describes a new method to completely reduce both the shear force and pyroelectric effects that are normally caused from piezoelectric materials.

This study assessed the influence of genetic type (Embden-Anser anser, EE; Toulouse-Anser anser, TT and F1 cross, ET) for meat characteristics (carcass, meat quality and fatty acid (FA) profiles), of domestic geese "Anser anser domesticus" raised in dehesa as an alternative, organic feeding system. Carcass and breast muscle weight (p<0.01) were greater for the ET group at the same live weight. None of the groups showed differences in the production of fatty liver with this type of feeding. Higher values were found for maximum Warner-Bratzler shear force (between 7.62 and $8.87kg/cm^2$), which implies the improvement of this parameter. High levels of oleic FAs were obtained, especially for the TT group. The polyunsaturated/saturated FA ratio was highest for the ET group (p<0.001), reflecting the optimum nutritional values as a component of a healthy consumer diet.

CCD(Charge-Coupled Device) wafers, with a layer of micro lenses on top, usually are not passivated with dielectric films. Micro lenses, in general, are made of polymer material, which usually has a large affinity for particles generated in the various chip fabrication processes, most notably the wafer sawing for chip-dicing. The particles deposited on the micro lens layer either seriously attenuate or deflect the incoming light and often lead to CCD failure. In this study we introduce new type of saws which would significantly reduce the particle-related problems found in conventional type of saws. In the new saws, the positions and diverging angles of side and center nozzles have been optimized so as to flush the particles effectively. In addition, an independent nozzle is added for the sole purpose of flushing the generated particles. The test results show that, with the new saws. the ratio of the particle-related CCD chip failures has been dropped drastically from 9.1% to 0.63%.
We present a comprehensive derivation of the transport of holes involving an interacting two-valence-band system in terms of a generalized relaxation time approach. We sole a pair of semiclassical Boltzmann equations in a general way first, and then employ the conventional relaxation time concept to simplify the results. For polar optical phonon scattering, we develop a simple method th compensate for the inherent deficiencies in the relaxation time concept and apply it to calculate effective relaxation times separately for each band. Also, formulas for scattering rates and momentum relaxation times for the two-band model are presented for all the major scattering mechanisms for p-type GaAs for simple, practical mobility calculations. Finally, in the newly proposed theoretical frame-work, first-principles calculations for the Hall mobility and Hall factor of p-type GaAs at room temperature are carried out with no adjustable parameters in order to obtain a direct comparison between the theory and recent available experimental results, which would stimulate further analysis toward better understanding of the complex transport properties of the valence band. The calculated Hall mobilities show a general agreement with our experimental data for carbon doped p-GaAs samples in a range of degenerate hole densities. The calculated Hall factors show $r_H$=1.25~1.75 over all hole densities($2{\times}10^{17}{\sim}1{\times}10^{20}cm^{-3}$ considered in the calculations.
