Stirling engine for solar thermal power is an essential part of Dish-Stirling system which generates electricity by using direct normal irradiation and will go into commercialization in near future. For the Stirling engine used in this study is Solo 161 model the capacity of which is 10 kWe and was already used for the Dish-Stirling system of KIER in Jinhae. The receiver of Stirling engine absorbes concentrated solar radiation and transfer it to working fluid of Hydrogen. The working condition of striling engine is high temperature and high pressure to make high efficiency. Therefore the receiver should stand against high temperature of above 800 $^{\circ}C$ and high pressure of max. 150 bar with good performance of heat transfer. The receiver is composed of 78 Inconel tubes of 1/8" with thickness of 0.71 mm and two reserviors which is connected with two cylinders. In order to know the charaterristics of heat transfer of Stirling engine receiver, simulation on the heat transfer of the receiver of Solo 161 is conducted by using CFD code of Fluent. The heat flux on the receiver surface has a shape of Gaussian distribution so, it is necessary to simulate a whole receiver. However, It is difficult and time consuming to simulate the whole receiver that one tube with different heat flux conditions are considered in this study. From the simulation results, heat transfer charateristics of receiver are observed and tube wall and fluid temperature and heat transfer coefficient are obtained and compared with the calculated results from Dittus-Boelter's correlation.
The concentrating solar module with high concentration ratio(320)has been studied.in this paper. The solar module was composed of the EMVJ solar cell, (Fresnel Lens-DCPC)concentrator and heat sink, and was measured by using the PASTF system. The experimental result and the result analysis for the individual item of the module were as f ollows; (1) The conversion efficiency of the module was 8.3%. (2) The optical efficiency of the concentrator was 46.5% (DCPC; 84.8%, Fresnel Lens; 54.8%). (3) The thermal loss of the solar cell was 4.9%. And methods for the further improvement of the concentrating solar module efficiency have been suggested.
Daegu Solar Power Tower Plant of 200 kW thermal capacity was developed for the first time in Korea, 2011. Measurement of the heat flux distribution is essential to evaluate the solar energy concentrated by reflectors and to design a suitable receiver. The flux mapping technique, which uses a radiometer and a diffuse plate, is common for measurement of the heat flux distribution. Because the solar power tower plant has a wide concentration area, the flux mapping technique using a fixed diffuse plate is difficult to apply. Therefore, the flux distribution in the solar power tower plant should be measured by the flux mapping technique using a small moving bar. In this study, we measured flux distributions with the moving-bar system developed at the KIER solar furnace and evaluated its applicability for the solar power tower plant.

This study was carried out to investigate the relation between surface roughness and heat absorption capability of materials for solar collector. For this purpose, 3 kinds of materials (copper, aluminum, iron), 5 kinds of surface roughness (scrubber, alumina sand #80, #200, #400, glass bead) and 2 kinds of surface treatment (black chrome plating, copper black coating) were used for finding optimal conditions to apply solar collector. As the results, it was confirmed that the optimal relations between surface roughness and surface treatment as well as optimal materials were necessary. Further, heat absorption capability was showed good results in cases of copper materials, glass bead and black chrome plating.

The performance of air type solar heating system has been investigated for a system which has been operating continuously for two years. Design factors of a collector, such as the effective transmittance-absorptance and heat transfer factor were also determined experimentally. The flat plate collector is fabricated from steel sheet metal with two sealed glass covers. Solar heat is stored in a pebble bed of primarily granitic rock approximately 20-40 mm in diameter. The system is controled by automatically driven motors and dampers. The ratio of useful collected solar heat divided by the total solar radiation on the collector dropped was the range of 35 to 42 percent in monthly average. As it result, the air system was found fairly competitive with the water system, however, the heat supply from storage was limited because of using the pebble as the heat storage media.

Heat loss through windows and doors occupies 20 to 45% of the total heat loss in building. It accounts for a large proportion of the total heat loss in building. In order to suppress the amount of heat flow through the windows and doors were considered actions such as reinforcement of insulation performance of window, adoption of low-e glass, and installation of solar heat shading device. The Purpose of this study is to compare solar heat shading performances of 3 types of internal blinds in the summer. In order to verify the solar heat shading performances of the blinds, a roll blind, blind A(Venetian blind) and blind B(Daylight guiding venetian blind)were installed in the four rooms with the same environmental conditions. As a result of the experiment, the blind B, blind A, roll blind showed an excellent performance in that order. Its because the blind B is made of aluminum materials coated with special paints on surface. It doesn't converted to long wave by short wave light. and it is reflected to short wave to outside.

The solar water heating system is one of the seven green campus items installed at the Gangneung campus of Gangneung-Wonju National University. The solar water heating system has two types of solar collectors, four storage tanks and monitoring equipment. Fixed and azimuth-tracking solar collectors were installed to collect heat from the sun. The amount of heat collected by the two different types of solar collectors was calculated from the temperature of the monitored storage tanks. Our results showed that the amount of solar heat collected by the azimuth-tracking solar collector was 19% greater on a sunny day and 23% greater on a rainy day than that collected by the fixed solar collector; therefore, the azimuth-tracking solar collectors are, on an average, 21% more efficient than the fixed solar collectors.
The heat transfer characteristics of inorganic salt for high temperature heat storage material of solar power system were examined. The inorganic salts employed in this study was a mixture of $NaNO_3$ and $KNO_3$ and the operating temperature range was determined by measuring the melting temperature with DSC and by measuring the thermal decomposition temperature with TGA. The heat transfer characteristics was qualitatively obtained in terms of temperature profiles of salt in the tanks during the heat storage and heat release process as a function of steam flow rates, steam inlet temperature and the inlet position of steam. The effects of steam flow rates and inlet temperature of steam were experimentally determined and the effect of natural convection was observed due to significant density difference with temperature.
Heat losses from the receivers of a dish-type solar energy collecting system at the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) are numerically investigated. It is assumed that a number of flat square mirrors are arranged on the parabolic dish structure to serve as a reflector. Two different types of receivers, which have conical and dome shapes, are considered for the system, and several modes of heat losses from the receivers are thoroughly studied. Using the Stine and McDonald model convective heat loss from a receiver is estimated. The Net Radiation Method is used to calculate the radiation heat transfer rate by emission from the inside surface of the cavity receiver to the environment. The Monte-Carlo Method is used to predict the radiation heat transfer rate from the reflector to the receiver. Tracing the photons generated, the reflection loss from the receivers can be estimated. The radiative heat flux distribution produced by a multifaceted parabolic concentrator on the focal plane is estimated using the cone optics method. Also, the solar radiation spillage around the aperture is calculated. Based on the results of the analysis, the performances of two different receivers with multifaceted parabolic solar energy collectors are evaluated.
We have investigated the operating characteristics of $1,600m^2$ large-scale solar thermal system installed in an eco-friendly energy town in Chungbuk Innovation City. The operation criteria of the collecting pump and storage pump were different from the existing standard, and it was confirmed that each pump works well according to the changed criteria. Based on the data of the representative day, the daily collecting heat (efficiency) and the production (storing) heat (efficiency) were estimated. It was confirmed that the daily collecting heat (efficiency) of the flat plate type was higher than that of the evacuated tube type, but the useful heat production was more in evacuated tube type collector.
