Standardization of solar collector test method is desirable for improvement solar collector quality and Valuation of collector thermal performance. In the present work, test loop proposed by Chun, is modified for convenience of test and obtained accurate collector thermal performance. An experimental investigation hat been carried out with a modified collector test loop under a real sun condition in order to confirm the utility of modified test loop and study the effect of variation of flow rate on thermal efficiency, the range of optimum flow rate and critical incident angle.

In this study, a model of a flat plate solar collector using a heat pipe was manufactured and tested to investigate such operational characteristics of the present system of solar collector as start-up process, temperature distribution on the absorber plate and operation of the heat pipe. Moreover, collector efficiency was measured for 20-30 minutes of operation at various conditions of weather and the result was compared with that tested by Hill et. a. for a flat plate solar collector using direct circulation of coolant. Some results obtained in this study could be summarized as follows. (1) The required time for the initial start-up process was about 5-6 minutes, but the heat pipe began to operate as soon as the absorber plate was exposed to solar radiation. (2) On the absorber plate, the temperature distributions in axial direction maintained nearly constant, while temperature distributions in transversal direction showed smooth decrease with $3-5^{\cird}C$ along with solar radiation. (3) Thermal inertia of the collector system had a favorable effect to damp the turbulent variation of solar radiation. (4) The collector efficiency of the present system showed nearly the same tendency but a decrease of about 10% compared with that using direct circulation of coolant.
The application of solar energy in residential building is general and natural in today. And application methods of solar thermal energy is divided in two kind of form, single evacuated tube and flat-plate form. Then in this study, the efficiency of single evacuated tube and flat-plate system is compared by total and effective area considering the time receiving the solar radiation between 24 hours and the specific time(10:00~15:00). As a result of the experiment, single evacuated tube and flat-plate collector's efficiency is varied by the quantity of solar radiation. And especially, the flat-plate system is more affected by outdoor temperature. Therefore the application of solar thermal system should be considered the solar radiation and outdoor temperature.
In order to analyze the performance comparison of dish solar collector with mirror arrays and receiver shapes, the radiative heat flux distribution inside the cavity receiver is numerically investigated. The solar irradiation reflected by dish solar collector is traced using the Monte-Carlo method. Five different dish solar collectors and three different cavity receivers are considered. A parabolic-shaped perfect mirror of which diameter is 1.5 m is considered as a reference dish solar collector and four different arrays of twelve identical parabolic-shaped mirror facets of which diameter are 0.4 m are used. Their reflecting areas, which are $1.5\;m^2$, are the same. Three different cavity receiver shapes are dome, conical, and cylindrical. In addition, the radiative properties of the concentrating surfaces can vary the thermal performance of the cavity receiver so that variation of the surface reflectivity of each mirror is considered. Based on the calculation, the design information of dish solar collector for producing the electric power can be obtained. The results show that the dome type has the best performance in receiver shapes and the 2AND4 INLINE has the best performance in mirror arrays except perfect mirror.
In this study, the design of the solar heating system for district heating as well as it's operating characteristics and the performance analysis was carried out. This solar district heating system was composed of two different types of solar collector circuit, flat plate and vacuum tube solar collector, in a system. This system supply constant temperature of hot water without solar buffer tank. For this, the proportional(variable flow rate) control was used. The experimental facility for this study was used the Bundang district solar heating system which was installed in the end of 2006. The operating characteristics and behaviour of each collector circuits are investigated especially for the system design and control. The yearly solar thermal efficiency is 47.5% on the basis of aperture area and 39.8% on the basis of gross area of collector. As a result this solar heating system without solar buffer tank and with proportional controller was testified a very effective and simplified system for district heating. It varied especially depend on the weather condition like as solar radiation and ambient temperature.

This study simulates a typical solar system using the transient simulation program TRNSYS, and calculates the maximum cooling load of the model room of $50m^2$. In this study, energy rate control method is used in calculating a maximum cooling load. On the ground of the maximum cooling load of the model room, the variables that have an effect on the solar collection performance of the solar system are made a selection. Also in this study the trend of the solar collection performance is shown as the variables change. The results show that the variables which have an effect on the collection performance are collector area, collector mass flow rate, collector slope and the volume of storage tank, and the optimal value of Ac/Vt is not constant but varies as the collector area and the collector mass flow rate. Also the results show that for cooling system the optimal value of the collector slope is latitude minus $15^{\circ}$ during the seasonal operations, and twenty percent of the maximum cooling load is saved with the aid of the solar energy.
This paper presents a method. for estimating the useful output of solar heating sys-terns. Heating load calculations, climatic data and various conditions are used in this procedure to estimate the fraction of the monthly heating load supplied by solar energy for a particular system the design procedure presented in this paper referred to the f-chart method. The results of this study are as follows; 1) The collected energy is not rised lineary to collector area. 2) If the heating area has equivalent solar collector area, the solar energy utilization for space heating is over 90%. 3) Transmittance- absorptance product for radiation at normal incidence, (${\tau}{\alpha}$)/(${\tau}{\alpha}$)n, during most of the heating season is 0.92 for a two-cover collector. 4) Orientation of the collector has little effect on the annual performance of solar heating system within the $15^{\circ}$.
The thermal performance for test system with evacuated tubular solar collector is experimentally investigated to obtain the basis data for developing new type solar collector. For this purpose, the test system was designed using CATIA and then after being manufactured, the system was tested using evacuated tubular solar collector. Numerical analysis, furthermore, was performed using ANSYS Fluent V.13 for glass evacuated tubular solar collector. The results showed that as setting temperature difference(${\Delta}T$) of system was increased, total operating(working) time was almost same in all cases, even though operating count was decreased. The results of numerical analysis showed that as temperature of solar absorber in glass evacuated tubular solar collector was high, the drop-rate of temperature of center part was increased.
There are mainly 3 heat losses from solar collector; top, bottom, and edge heat loss. Usually edge heat loss is small so that could be neglected. Of the total thermal losses occurring in a flat plate solar collector, top loss heat losses are dominant. Therefore it is necessary to calculate the top loss coefficient accurately in order to find out performance of solar collector. The flat plate solar collector(regenerator in summer) used in this study was made for year-round all conditioning. In order to find out collector efficiency for heating in winter without a system change, outdoor experiment was done. The top loss coefficient of this collector was about 3 to $4.5W/m^2^{\circ}C$. Futhermore use of selective coating in trickling surface can improve a performance of flat plate solar collector.

The continuous increase of emission rates of green house gases and the effects on global warming added a new dimension to the problem of substituting the petroleum and its derivatives by environment friendly and sustainable energy sources for the world. Solar and wind energy appear at the top of the list of renewable of high potential, widely available, of dominated technology and well accepted. Brazil is one of the few countries in the world that receives number hours of sunshine exceeding 3,000 hours per year with a daily average of 4.5 to 6 kWh. However, this potential is largely unexplored and poorly tapped. The number of renewable systems implanted in Brazil has grown in recent years, but still insignificant when compared, for example, with Germany and Spain among others. This paper presents the results of an optical study on small concentration solar collector with evacuated tube enveloping the absorber and internal reflective surface fixed on the bottom part of the evacuated tube. The designed collector has a 2D geometrical concentration ratio between 2.455 and 4.91. The orientation of the solar collector, the ratio of the radius of the receiver to the radius of the absorber, the incidence angle for each period of the year, the collector inclination angle, the aperture angle of the reflective surface, concentration and optical efficiency were determined. The ray traces and flux distribution on the absorber of the evacuated tube solar collector were determined by using the program Ray Optics Simulation. The optical efficiency varies during the year according to the solar declination. For the periods were the solar declination is close to zero the efficiencies are maximum, and the variation during the day is around 25.88% and 99.9%. For the periods were the solar declination is maximum the efficiencies are minimum, and the variation during the day is around 23.78% and 91.79%.
