  • A simple nonalkoxide sol-gel route for depositing an Al-doped ZnO thin film on a glass substrate was derived in this study. The initial Al dopant concentration in the sol-gel preparation varied and ranged from 0 to 5%. The sol-gel-derived thin films showed c-plane preferred crystallization of their hexagonal phase, with nanosized grain structures. First and second post-heat-treatments were carried out to improve the film’s electrical resistivity. The carrier density and the Hall mobility were measured and discussed to explain the electrical resistivity. The optical transmittance within the visible range showed compatible properties, which indicates the possible use of A1-doped ZnO as a transparent electrode in flat panel displays.

  • The PZT(lead, zirconium, titanium) based ceramics which, are reported to be ferroelectric materials have their important applications in the areas of surface acoustic waves (SAW), filters, infrared detectors, actuators, ferroelectric random acess memory, speakers, electronic switches etc. Moreover, these PZT materials possess the large electromechanical coupling factor, large spontaneous polarization, low dielectric loss and low internal stress etc. Hence, keeping in view the unique properties of PZT piezoelectric ceramics we also tried to synthesize indigenously the small sized PZT ceramic powder in the laboratory by using the modified sol-gel approach. In this paper, Propyl alcohol based sol-gel method was used for preparation of PZT piezoelectric ceramic. The powder obtained by this sol-gel process was calcined and sintering to reach a pyrochlore-free crystal phase. The characterization of synthesized material was carried out by the XRD analysis and the surface morphology was determined by high resolution scanning electron microscopy.

  • ${\alpha}$-Al2O3 powder was produced at 1000$^{\circ}C$ by the boehmite sol-gel process with seeding 2 wt% ${\alpha}$-Al2O3. The processes and mechanisms of fornation of ${\alpha}$-Al2O3 was investigated using DTA/TG, XRD, TR spectroscopy and thermodynamic analysis. The specific surface area of the obtained ${\alpha}$-Al2O3 was 16.3㎡/g.

  • The TEA complex polymeric sol was prepared by the alkoxide sol-gel method. The purpsoe of this experiment was to vefity the particle shape in the sol from the investigation of the rheological properties. TEA retarded hydrolysis rate by the reaction with alkoxide enough to make a stable transparent sol in the wide range of composition. From the results of the viscosity change with time, the optimum mole ratio for spinning was selected as 0.5 mole of TEA, 3 mole of H2O and the optimum viscosity was 104 cPs. The rheological behavior of the sol showed that the particle shape in the sol was linear, which was adequate for fiber drawing.

  • The polycrystalline mullite fiber was synthesized from various combination of starting materials including metal alkoxides and colloidal sol by the sol-gel process. The best spinnability was observed in the sol which showed shear thinning and hysteresis (i.e., thixotropic flow), indicating that the network structure was broken down as the shear rate increased. The mullite fiber was polycrystalline after firing and characterized by thermal analysis, XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, rheological measurements, and SEM.
