  • Very fine cobalt oxide ambigel powder were prepared using a unique solution chemistry associated with the sol-gel process. The mesoporous structure of the initial gel is maintained by removing fluid under conditions where the capillary forces that result extraction are either low or no existent, are either low or nonexistent. Controlling both the pore and solid architecture on the nanoscale offers a strategy for the design of supercapacitor. But $CoO_x$ have the low voltage, so we experiment using Co/PVA composite electrode.

  • We describe the preparation of a manganese oxide polymorph in which the solid-pore architecture of the material is controllably varied. All MnO$_2$ gels derived from a KMnO$\_$4/-based sol-gel synthesis. The mesoporous structure of the initial gel is maintained by removingore fluid under conditions where the capillary forces that result fro extraction are either low or no existent. are either low or noexistent. Controlling both the pore and solid architecture on the nanoscale offers a strategy for the design of supercapacitor.

  • ZnO and Al-doped ZnO thin films were prepared by sol-gel dip-coating method and electrical and optical properties of films were investigated. Using the zinc acetate dihydrate and acetylaceton(AcAc) as a chelating agent stable ZnO sol was synthesized with HCl catalyst. Adding aluminium chloride to the ZnO sol Al-doped ZnO sol could be also synthesized. As Al contents increase the crystallinity of ZnO thin film was retarded by increased compressive stress in the film resulted from the difference of ionic radius between Zn2+ and Al3+ The thickness of ZnO and Al-doped ZnO thin film was in the range of 2100~2350$\AA$. The resistivity of ZnO thin films was measured by Van der Pauw method. ZnO and Al-doped ZnO thin films with annealing temperature and Al content had the resistivity of 0.78~1.65$\Omega$cm and ZnO and Al-doped ZnO thin film post-annealed at 40$0^{\circ}C$ in vacuum(5$\times$10-5 torr) showed the resistivity of 2.28$\times$10-2$\Omega$cm. And the trans-mittance of ZnO and Al-doped ZnO thin film is in the range of 91-97% in visible range.

  • PZT(53/47) precursor 1M sols were prepared using a diol based Sol-Gel process, and thin films were deposited by spin coating onto Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates. With a single coating, final film thickness of aproximately 0.9${\mu}m $ was achieved from diol-based PZT sol. Since PZT crystallized in a ferroelectric perovskite phase from an intermediate nonferroelectric pyrochlore phase, the effects of the presence of perovskite PZT seeds on the phase transformation of PZT were investigated. Seeded PZT films were prepared from the seeded PZT 1M sols in which seeds with less than 0.2${\mu}m $ in size and 1wt% were dispersed in n-propanol before mixing with the PZT stock solution. The seeding effects were confirmed by the fact that the formation temperature of perovskite phase decreased by 50$^{\circ}C$ with less than 1wt% seeds.

  • A sol-gel processing of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ superconductor using metal nitrate salts and sodium hydroxide as the starting materials has been investigated because of the need to produce pure, hompgeneous superconducting materials. Since the precipitation of barium hydroxides can be obtained only at high basicities, the process has to be carried out Ca. pH 13 to get the simultaneous coprecipitation with the other metal hydroxides. The involved reaction mechanisms were investigated and intermediate and final products were characterized by means of thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), infra-red(IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), thermal mechanical analysis(TMA) and electrical measurement.

  • Submicrometer, monosized ceramic powder of $Al_2TiO_5$$Al_2O_3$ ethanolic solutions. All particles produced by sol-gel-process were amprphous, monodispersed and with a narrow particle-size distribution. Compacts fired above $1300^{\circ}C$ formed aluminium titanate. Mullite formed first at $1480^{\circ}C$. After decomposition test at $1100^{\circ}C$, and cyclic thermal decomposition test at 750-1400-$750^{\circ}C$ for 100hrs., aluminium titanate was well stablized by composition with mullite.

  • If rare earth ions could be activated by electrical means after introducing into an appropriate semiconductor host, it might be possible to achieve the electrically-driven optical amplifier. Futhermore, some groups report that rare earth doped semiconductor nanoparticls show the sensitized emission. In this study, we try to prepare the Er/PbS nanoparticles encaupsulated by phenyl modified silica shell via sol-gel process. Er/PbS nanoparticles were characterized by UV-vis absorption, XRD, FT-IR and TEM etc. Finally we will present the luminescence properties of Er doped PbS nanoencapsulation.

  • The effect of catalytic condition on the properties of SiO2 aerogels has been investigated and then the dri-ed aerogels were partially densified to induce mechanical strength by heat treatment in order to prepare Type-VI silica by Sol-Gel method. Aerogel made by 1-step base process had the highest skeletal density lowest shrinkage and the smallest particle size. But in case of using acid catalyst in both 1st and 2nd step had the lowest skeletal density highest shrinkage and the largest particle size The aerogel synthesized by 1-step base process was most transparent because of its homogeneous microstructure. During heat treatments cracks occurred below 200$^{\circ}C$ for aerogel with the skeletal density lower than 1.9 g/cm3 but the with the higher skeletal density did not cracked up to 800$^{\circ}C$ shrinkage and skeletal density increased as heating temperature increased due to condensation and viscous sintering mechanism.

  • Pyroelectric and dielectric properties of modified PZT thin film and bulk ceramics were studied. In case of bulk specimens were prepared by conventional ceramic process and thin films with same composition and (111) preferred orientation were prepared by the sol-gel process. Their crystal structure, pyroelectric and dielectric properties were investigated after poling at $150^{\circ}C$ for 30 min for bulk ceramics and no poling treatment, respectively. Dielectric constants and losses of bulk and thin film were 600, 875 and 0.028, 0.025, respectively. Pyroelectric coefficients obtained were $50nC/cm^2K$ and $30nC/cm^2K$, respectively.
